"Be careful where you get a room here"
We had just flown back from Australia and were exhausted. We had a reservation here and hoped to check in early. The reception desk gave us a room when we arrived. It was in the back tower. (I have to assume that the back tower was a different from the front tower as a used Yugo is from a Mercedes.) The walk outside our room was littered with trash. The bathtub in the room was the worst I'd ever seen, outside of a dump. It was supposed to be a junior suite. Outside of being a large room, there was nothing suite-like about the room. I won't go into all the things wrong with the room, but as we were leaving, there was some type of package taped above the door. I didn't check it out for fear that it was drug paraphernalia left by the last guest. My wife fell asleep due to exhaustion. When I complained to the manager on duty, he did offered to move us to a different room, presumably in the front tower, which looked good. I wish I had taken him up on his offer. In the alternative, he did offer to credit us back some Marriott Rewards points which we used for our stay. It was of little consolation. The staff was friendly, but the fact that such a room existed in the Marriott chain, much less was billed as a "junior suite", is appalling. And we are platinum elite Marriott Rewards members. If that is the kind of room one gets there as a platinum elite member, I shudder to think what kind of room that someone not a Marriott Rewards member would receive. I gave a 2 star rating because the front tower probably is good, unlike the tower of horrors in the back.
My daughter and I arrived separately as we traveled to take a cruise on the Pride of America. It was a perfectly adequate room on the first night, then a small suite on our return stay. The market was small and we never did make it to the coffee bar. The lounge is small, but but adequate. The luggage storage is quite helpful. The concierge is well meaning and is GREAT for restaurant reservations. I'm just REALLY sorry it didn't occur to me the first Friday night we were there to arrange both a luau and catamaran for the return weekend -- we really missed out. The hotel is close enough to the beach that we did happen on the hula dancing Saturday night in the little park area so we didn't miss out completely. If I'd known better, I would have just walked down to the beach that Sunday morning and signed right up. There aren't bathtubs in all the rooms - so be sure to ask for one if you need one (like for bathing the kids). There was a death at a neighboring hotel (26 floor jumper/pushed) so it was challenging making it back in the second day and the front desk clerk said it's not uncommon so be ready to cover the kids' eyes You just never know what you're going to find on the islands
"Not a good property for Marriott."
Not a good property for Marriott. Room had a musty smell and bed was damp. When booking the room, I was quoted one price for the room and charged a higher price upon check in. Doors to the hotel were left open at the end of hall way. Joseph Martin 9240)330-9338
"Great for Groups"
Loved the stay with my groups. They allowed us to use their storage rooms, had great bus parking, clean rooms, terrific staff and service, fast internet, free use of computers, restaurant on site, laundry, nice pool, snack bar, I could go on and on. The area is getting better as well- Kuhio street used to be a bit dodgy but has improved over the years. I would give the place five stars if the hotel has a slightly better location. I still felt safe and liked the smaller restaurants nearby. If you are on a budget then this is the place for you! A shout out to Brent Umehira, the hotel's sales manager, for making our resvervation go so smoothly.
"Good place to stay."
Close to shops and walking distance to everything you need. Staff are friendly and helpful. Rooms are smallish however they are clean and updated. The only negative I found about this hotel is the parking, they charge $39 for valet only which is expensive. I parked on the street most nights which was annoying however I saved a lot of money. I would recommend this hotel, we arrived early and got to check in early. Staff are always ready to help and an iHop across the street!
