"Not really happy"
I give 2 but I was thinking about just 1. Since I am platinum member, I had an upgrade, but in this hotel that doesn't mean that you have access to the Club Lounge even if you have a Club Room, and they said I can access if I pay 50 euros per day per person, which I obviously declined. I went to the restaurant the first day and the food was just ok, but compared with the city prices is completely overpriced: just an example: a bottle of water in any restaurant near to Acropolis, or any major monument: 2 euros, in the hotel 4.5. I stayed 6 nights and 2 of them they didn't refill coffee nor soaps or shampoo (luckily we bring ours) I usually go to IHG hotels and I have to say that this one is a bit disappointing compared with the other I've been.
"Deceiving Name; Better Options in Athens"
The staff at this hotel was mostly helpful and I appreciated the local Greek Korres toiletries. However, I wished I had chosen the InterContinental hotel in Athens for the same price. This Crowne Plaza includes the name "City Center" in its name and as such I assumed it would be in the central business district. While there is a bus stop nearby, the stops listed are all in Greek, so for English speakers taking the bus is out of the question. To walk to Syntagma Square, where everything is located, is at least 30 minutes and a very confusing walk with lots of turns down multiple streets. I tried to find the metro station they advertise they are near, but could not locate it, so ended up taking the taxi for 5 Euros each way. The hotel was charging exorbitant prices for the food in the hotel (I couldn't find anything under 20 Euros on the menu and there were no local food offerings). I walked outside for about a mile in either direction trying to find food options and found a convenience store and one cafe (Everest is decent and next door). There is a strip club located next door and multiple other strip clubs and dance pubs in the area, not a nice part of town. Also, the beds were hard as a rock and I couldn't sleep. I felt the hotel was dirty and dated. The InterContinental is located within walking distance of Syntagma, and you only have to walk down one street to get there so it's easy not to get lost. Also, there are TONS of cafes and restaurants located near the InterContinental. Don't choose the Crowne Plaza Athens City Center hotel if you can avoid it. Also, their ATM was out of order and when it was finally working, it charged me a $9 service fee, not a pleasant aspect of my stay.
"Good business/tourist hotel"
The room was modern, large, and comfortable. The executive lounge was available throughout the day, but was rather basic. For breakfast there was yogurt, cereal, coffee, juice. Throughout the day there were cookies, chips, water, beer. At dinner time there were hot snacks, plus the cookies, chips, and beer. The location is a couple of blocks from a main street with a subway stop. It's easy to get to Syntagma Square by subway, and about a half hour walking. The airport bus goes along the main street and is right near the subway stop -- just look for the sign for the bus. There's a small grocery store about a block away.
"Easily accessible by public transport"
Staff were warm and friendly. Rooms were modern with a nice decor. The breakfast had some Greek items in addition to the standard items one would find in an international hotel chain and their orange juice machine was impressive. Great links to public transport, including the metro and the airport bus. It's a shame that the roof area was closed and the spa was located off-site. I would definitely stay here again.
"Reliable Crowne Plaza experience"
I stayed in this hotel for 2 nights on a business trip. Overall I had a good experience and I would recommend this hotel for a business trip or even for an Athens city break. Having said that, the name of the hotel is misleading, as it is definitely not in the city center. Having said that, the closest metro station is only 5 mins walk away and taxis are readily available and quite cheap. What I liked: - Overall the hotel and my room were clean - Good range of amenities provided, such as slippers, bathrobe, good quality toiletries. - Very comfortable mattress and I loved the relaxing pillow spray and pulse point roll-on. A nice touch. - Free bottle of water and coffee-making facilities a plus - In-room breakfast was good and not very expensive - Good buffet breakfast downstairs with a good enough selection of hot and cold options. What could be improved: - Decor was OK, but a little dated. Overall consistent with Crowne Plaza standard though. - There was black mold around the edges of the bathtub and also on the shower head. - The pillow was a bit big for my liking and kind of cancelled out the positive effect of the great mattress. Perhaps they could provide two different pillows rather than two similar ones. - Very helpful front desk staff
