"Clean but tired in an excellent location"
We had four nights here and were very satisfied. While I agree that the bathroom needed refurbishment, the entire room was very clean. The breakfast was pretty good with a full complement of Western and Asian dishes. Check in and Check out were fast and without any difficulties. The lounge area was a nice place to grab something light to eat with drinks. Do recommend skipping the massage here as it was not worth the price. The massage is done over the clothes with one side of the table pushed up against a wall. The young woman who performed my massage rubbed my temples hard enough to cause an abrasion as though I was inconveniencing her. The location is spectacular with the Forbidden City being a 10 minute walk and Tiananmen Square being another five minutes beyond that. There is both an upscale shopping district on the road in front of the hotel as well as a hutong with local restaurants close by. I would stay here again if I returned.
I got upgraded upon arrival which was great. The hotel is right next to Wangfujing street which is always a fun visit, Hutong's are not far away, and the metro is close by too. I had some laundry needed done urgently and despite the lack of time, they got it done right within the limited time they had and delivered on time. I had a couple of things I wanted done at the hotel in Beijing and they served me perfectly.
"old hotel but people are helpful"
Its centrally located on a very busy and interesting street. However the hotel is old and on our first night the air conditioning did not work and we had an uncomfortable night. They moved us the next day to a better room. The water in the tub too drains out very very slowly in both rooms we stayed in.It certainly needs refurbishing. The staff were helpful though especially the concierge Jack, who was super efficient and helpful in getting us transport and advising us on how to get around.
"OK hotel in good location"
My guess guests choose this hotel because of the price and location. It definitely needs to remodel the rooms and I would rate to 3 stars. Very busy breakfast, friendly staff, Concierge has 3 assistants. During the rush hours hard to get a taxi and there is a lot of traffic around. My room was medium size and it was good enough, very basic.
Fora $* hotel this is way overrated, even a Super 8 would be better. we arrived early forbook in to be told only one room was available. This room (317)was disgraceful for a 4*, toilets cracked, caulking mildewed, sideboard wood ballooning, carpets dirty. We demanded a new room and the replacement (604)was just as bad, wallpaper peeling, painted bathtub peeling, worn carpets, a/c overworked, wood door surrounds cracked. We were told hotel was fully booked andit didn't have any queen beds. Also advised it was an old hotel and hadn't been renovated since 2008 (ie what can you expect!)This was a visit to celebrate a birthday and totally ruined. The lapsidaisical attitude of the front desk was annoying but the staff everywhere else was very polite and accomodating.
