"Great customer service!"
My husband and I stayed at this hotel as I was attending a conference down the street. We had low expectations, but we were truly blown away by the awesome customer service. We arrived to the hotel at 9:00am and we thought there was no way a room would be ready for us to check in. We were pleasantly surprised! Alex at the front desk was so friendly and gave us a great first impression of the resort. He had mentioned that the hotel had been suffering from power outages due to flooding and warned us that they were a little behind on things. We didn't have any issues at all. Our room was clean and very large. Granted it is nothing fancy and does need some updating, but it was perfect for the reason we were there. Every time we passed by an employee they always gave us a smile and a hello. We would definitely stay here again if we are ever in the area.
Was there for 3 days 1 of them was raining, plenty of ponds everywhere, the parking lot was flooded, we had to tow the car , we stayed without electricity for 2 days, no hot water, when I asked for the checkout I was told that they were not able to give me the receipt because of the outage but they assured me that I would be charged for only one night. When back in Italy I discovered that I was fully charged. A real shame, I'll never be back in this place
"Okay for business"
For the price, the main benefit you get is location. The rooms are nice and clean but decor a little dated. The pools on offer are good, unsupervised. The breakfast is fruit/yoghurt, cooked and pastries. Eveningfood on offer includes sushi which is of average quality.
"Odd mix of really nice and not so much.."
The lobby and common areas are nice and that seemed promising, but the room was shabby and not conducive to a good nights sleep which I sorely needed after a cross country flight. There were too few towels and bathroom amenities... little things like no dish make the bigger things (like threadbare rugs) stand out. Like another reviewer noted, I also found the sliding door to the deck unlocked. Most staff were nice and helpful, but when I asked about the airport shuttle, a few of the staff huddled then offered to call me a cab. The layout might appeal to some folks, but I found it odd. This place might make sense for a family on a budget, but it didn't work for a business traveler.
"Beautiful tiki hotel - a jewel in Mission Valley"
Unfortunately I only got to spend one night in this great hotel. It is NOT close to downtown or Gaslamp district though, if that´s what you are looking for. There is a courtesy van from the airport but better call when you arrive, because pick up does not seem to be regulary, I waited almost an hour. Once arrived, the driver was very friendly and helpful though, even offering to help woth transportation to the nearby mall. But it´s only a $5 Uber drive there. The hotel has a beautiful Hawaiian style design with outrigger boats hanging in the lobby, tiki masks everywhere, and a beautiful pool, as well as a hula hut and the different buildings are nestled inside a park style area. The bed was very comfortable. The room even had a balcony facing the pool. Unusual amenities were provided like a mist you spray over the bed before sleeping for relaxation. Bathroom was a little outdated but not bad. TV was easy to navigate and wifi was free and fast. A little safety concern: Upon arrival, window was open and easy to break into. The hotel has a nice looking sushi bar as well. I can imagine it is not cheap, as well as the breakfast, which was not included in my rate so I skipped it. I am looking forward to my next stay at the Crown!
