"Capable of 4 stars but falling short."
The front of house team were helpful and polite throughout my stay, this was slightly spoiled by the fact that housekeeping come early and are very persistent (I was disturbed three times on the morning I was checking out even though I had arranged a late check-out (the first two times they knocked were before the usual check out time in any case). What really let the hotel down was the apparently lack of stock control. Fully half the things that I tried to order from the room service menu or in the restaurant were either discontinued or our of stock and when you are staying in a hotel for a week in an area you don't know, having the food options chopped in half is not a good start. Fortunately, the hotel is located close to the malls in Rosebank where there are a number of nice restaurants. The hotel should be 4 stars, they just need to sort out a few things and they will be there.
After 5 weeks in a hotel, one has a very good perspective on its advantages and disadvantages. I have been particularly pleased with the staff. Alwyn, who serves the front desk, has been the most gracious host (and guide for things to do) I've encountered in 30 years of international travel. Malebo, who serviced my room perfectly every day, was always accomodating to special requests. The rooms are clean and the location is excellent, particularly if you don't have a car. Breakfast is overpriced, but there are lots of options in walking distance. There is some noise at night from a disco/club, but nothing that kept me awake. All in all, good value for the price.
"Good location and quiet"
Rooms are a decent size, very clean and great friendly staff. Within a short walk of the Rosebank Mall with lots of shops and restaurants, as well as the Rosebank Gautrain station. We did not have breakfast, but had dinner in the Butcher Block restaurant off the foyer, great food, but don't sit too close to the kitchen as is it is very noisy.
Excellent location, within easy walking distance of the Rosebank Mall and Gautrain station. Rooms are clean, spacious and comfortable. Friendly and attentive service by all staff members. The breakfast selection is good and tasty, with efficient service even at peak times. Be prepared to pay for parking though.
"Average business hotel"
I visited this hotel earlier this month for a work visit. The staff are very friendly and professional. The breakfasts are fairly elaborate although you do have to warm the cold waffles placed in an un-warmed chafing dish. The rooms are standard, lacking in character but clean. I did get the sense that the wing I was in is a fairly old one and you can tell from the minute you get off the elevator. The important thing, though, for a frequent traveller like me is to get a room at a corner and without a connecting door for complete and utter silence. I got this and loved it. It's a walking distance to one of Johannesburg's best shopping and restaurant districts (I prefer Rosebank anytime over Sandton) with a wonderful selection of restaurants and two movie theaters to choose from. It's a good choice for a short stay.
