"Practically Perfect in Every Way"
We did a park and stay before flying from John Lennon Airport for 4 nights in Morocco. The welcome was professional and informative. We had a ground floor room as requested and the most brilliant shower in the world, powerful and easy to use. In the evening we had a bottle of wine and when I asked for a reasonably priced bottle £17.50 for a good Chardonnay. We had fish finger sandwich, seems home made and my fiancée had the crab rarebit on sour dough bread. The pillows are all different softness so try and see which you prefer. We paid £90 including 4 nights parking.
I think the general manager needs to take a long hard look at who he is employing. The reception manager as I later found out has the worst attitude I've ever witnessed. Asking for help and her reply is it's not her problem well it's not my problem to return to this hotel ever again. To be quiet fair I wouldn't have even bothered writing a review only I've read a few about her attitude but clearly the GM isn't interested in his hotel and he's quiet happy with consistent complaints about her. Bar staff where the only approachable people in the whole hotel really not a good experience at all!
"Friendly service and good value "
I have stayed at this hotel several times on business and have always found it to be good. The building is the former Liverpool airport terminal, and has been kept faithful to the original Art Deco design, and the architecture is therefore really interesting. Rooms are comfortable and quiet, and the staff very friendly and helpful.
"Room for improvement"
I might have set my expectations a touch too high as I recently visited the Crown Plaza in Newcastle. The Newcastle hotel was built in the last year or so and finished to a high standard. When I booked the Crown Plaza at Liverpool I thought the hotel would fit into the theme albeit completely different buildings. On the former site of the old airport it is a building steeped in history although ironically I did not see much reference to its past other than a couple of screens with a black and white cinema reel that showed some highlights of its aviation days. Check in was not as smooth as I'd hoped. I was initially told the room I had booked for a family of 4 was a room to accommodate 2. I explained this was not the case to be informed by another staff member we had been upgraded. Not all bad then. We were a little early and waited in the bar for our room to be made ready. The bar is a nice area that could be improved with a few minor changes. The seating is a little tired and appeared to be stained. The prices are what you would expect to pay for a 4 star establishment although a dirty cup for the tea was not what was expected. The room was clean and well equipped. Again needed a bit of TLC as the wallpaper was coming away in parts and the bathroom had paint flaking off the woodwork. We had a sofa bed as well as a king sized bed to accommodate the family and I had the unpleasant experience of sleeping on the sofa bed. Perhaps management may want to spend a night on one to appreciate how uncomfortable it was. The king size bed was however comfortable according to those that slept in it so a bit of a mixed bag. As far as food goes, we ate in the bar for our evening meal. Sam, the barman was a talkative and friendly chap. Nothing seemed a problem and he organised the food and drinks. The meals were promptly served and were pleasant enough. Breakfast however was a let down. Staff were inattentive and the breakfast buffet was poor. If you wanted porridge for example there was a heated metal container (possibly for soup) used to store it. Unless you have it once freshly made, you will find it dried out and inedible. They ran out of some hot breakfast items which I know has been mentioned elsewhere. Another tip is to have the staff clear away tables. If you have cereal before say a hot breakfast, my preference is to not have the cereal plates left on the table which at best is cramped. Perhaps staff ought to be attentive and clear away dishes that have been finished. Checkout was speedy and efficient and the staff were polite. They organised our taxis and they arrived promptly. All in all, as the title suggests, room for improvement.
"Nice hotel in old airport"
Stayed one night and the hotel was a good surprise. Thought that ole AirPort could be to extra. Big hotel with nice rooms and good breakfast. You should order the breakfast the evening before to save some pounds. You need a car to get the the hotel.
