"Much improved since last visit"
We stopped using this hotel about 5 years ago as we were not happy with the cleanliness of the rooms. We decided to try again as it is a convenient place to stop. While the hotel is getting tired and due for a refurbishment soon, we found everything as it should be. Abbie was one of the most welcoming hotel reception staff I have ever encountered. We were left with the impression that nothing would be too much trouble for her. Check in was easy and our room, which admittedly was an upgrade, was wonderful and clean. We had access to the club lounge which we used on the first night only. Good selection of drinks were available, and again, the person manning the fort was extremely nice and helpful. The snacks looked a little dried out, probably because we arrived a little late, so we avoided them. A problem with the sink not draining was fixed quickly and we felt that the hotel was eager to please. My faith has been restored in this hotel and I will consider it again. When the refurb has been completed it will be amazing as long as the same staff are working there.
"Fantastic accommodation but let down by restaurant"
This would have been 5 stars if not let down by the restaurant. Booked through Superbreak with first night meal included. Arrived at the hotel on the Friday night with my wife for a weekend break with first night meal included. I had read the reviews about the hotel beforehand that seemed to generally imply that the hotel accommodation was good but the restaurant let it down but not being fussy people gave it a go. This was perfectly true. The hotel itself is beautiful, the reception is warm and inviting and the room was spacious and beautifully decorated. We chose a room overlooking the airport which was very interesting. We booked in at about 3.30pm and enjoyed an afternoon in the hotel. We had previously asked if we needed to book our evening meal but staff said that was not necessary. However, when we went down for the meal at 7.30 we were told that the kitchen could not cope with our order and could not have a meal. It made no difference when we pointed out that our package included a first night evening meal. They offered to book us a table the following evening which we reluctantly accepted. We ended up having our meal at the MCDonalds opposite the hotel. The meal the following night was very late and very poor. The restaurant staff agreed the meal was not satisfactory and offered us £15 in compensation. Overall it proved disappointing due to the restaurant who seemed to try to satisfy two large groups ( a wedding and a Christmas Gala evening before their own residents.) Trying to do too much I think.
"Nice quiet Art Deco hotel"
Stayed with our young children. Friendly staff made us all feel very welcome. Nice hotel with quiet, albeit smallish, rooms. 5 mins drive to the airport, decent American style diner 1 min walk away gives another option to the good hotel restaurant.
"Beautiful building, nice hotel"
A very sympathetic conversion of the original terminal building has created a lovely hotel. We were upgraded to an executive room, which was very comfortable. Only one lady on reception early in the evening when we wanted to arrange a taxi, so we had to come back. Breakfast was very good.
"Cold damp room "
Worried about the damp in my room only just checked in .... is it too late to move rooms' It's a beautiful 1930s building but looks like it's in need of some roc and some cash . The lift smelt of dirty mop water. Booked here for 2 nights not got a good feeling!
