Ideal for business travellers with a car. But has a pool, so children can benefit too. Handy for Gatwick airport.Comment of R. Ian , Spain the 2015-02-17
Perfect stay before flying on business from Gatwick.Comment of S. Lisa , United Kingdom the 2015-01-23
We checked with the hotel beforehand to make sure that we were booked in, so arrived confident that everything was ok. Upon arrival our room had been upgraded at no additional cost. So our anniversary weekend away started with a bonus.Comment of D. Wayne , United Kingdom the 2014-04-28
A fantastic hotel and well worth the money paid. Well located for the A23 to both London and Brighton.Comment of S. Andrew , United Kingdom the 2013-11-01
Very Nice Hotel!Comment of A. Arslan , United Kingdom the 2013-10-02
Disappointed that, despite our Spire Elite membership, no effort whatsoever was made to acknowledge this other than the obligatory additional membership points. We were given a pokey twin room despite the best efforts of the excellent concierge who tried, in vain, to organise a larger room for us. The alleged free wifi was almost non-existent in most areas of the hotel. We declined the £5 upgrade. The tiny lifts (elevators) were being refurbished so limited service during our visit. Being an older hotel the sound insulation isn't brilliant so expect noise from 04:00 when guests on early flights are on the move. Airport hotels eh' Although it is not clear, there are two adjoining eating areas in the hotel, with different menus; the Cube restaurant menu and the Lounge menu. Our Cube meal was good, if a little expensive. As with most airport hotels there are no alternative nearby eating options unless you have a car and can travel. There is a £10 per night parking fee. Overall a mildly disappointing stay.
"One night stay. Nice but definitely not 4 stars "
Got the parking deal for a weeks stay which was very reasonable (£69) so you can't moan too much......but We ate at the Cube restaurant, the food was good although £19 for a chicken dish is expensive. £4.50 for a bottle of sparkling water...that's only a 400% mark up!!!!! The hotel has one creaky, small lift working for everyone and I had to wait for about 15 mins until one was empty to fit me and my suitcases in. The room...oh the room. It was in desperate need of refurbishment and freezing due to all the windows being on the latch as someone had obviously been smoking in here the night before. The TV was older than my grandparents (I'm 39 to give you an idea😁) and the sound was barely audible on full welly... The plus side the bed was very comfortable! You don't get driven to the airport like most park and stay deals but have to drive yourself to the purple parking and bus from there. Not a massive deal but a faff. All in all it's been ok, but If I'd have paid any more than I did I would have been miffed. 4AA stars...they must get on very well with the man/woman from AA😬
"On a special deal, this was good - but beware of parking fees..."
Our room had a view of Gatwick which was close enough to be interesting, but far enough away not to be noisy. The room was comfortable, if a little dated. We went on a deal which made it great value for money, but I'd be wary of how much to pay. The rooms were well equipped with toiletries, etc and even a bath robe (clean but ageing). Breakfast was very pleasant and the waiting staff were fantastic! They were so on the ball. There was a buffet and also a menu to pick from which would then be freshly prepared. We wanted a slight deviation from the menu - pancake with lemon instead of the stipulated choc spread. No problem, good pancakes. Everyone in the hotel seemed very happy. However we were surprised to find there was an additional parking fee of £10 per night. We were visiting family nearby so could easily have parked elsewhere. My husnpband argued that this wasn't clear as he was booking. They looked into,it and waived the fee. We heard other guests arguing the same issue. However the staff were helpful and kind. When we stayed there were refurbs going on including lifts which was a little annoying, but ok given the deal.
"Nice hotel, shame about staff"
We came here the night before going on holiday to save time and get a good nights sleep. The hotel reception and bar area was nice, but the service was extremely slow. We ate at the bar area which was quiet, being a Monday night. The manager said we can order from our tables. After waiting 25minutes and starring at the waitress too busy yawning and talking to her colleagues ( brown hair in a bun), we ordered ourselves. She became offended by this and threw the sauce and cutlery on our table. We said thank you and she didn't even acknowledge us. She had a face like a slapped __. I was given a glass of wine filled to the brim (Chavey much) - in a 4 star hotel I expect the same measurement in a big glass a third full. We waited another 40minutes on our main (sausage and mash) with no updates from the staff ( sitting on their mobiles ). After finishing no-one cleared our plates or asked how our meal was - there was NO chance of a desert or more drinks. We then went back to the room - which was in the old part of the hotel and It was certainly not 4 star. The room was dull and small, the decor was minimal and no better than a standard 3* hotel. The heating didn't work and the shower was like a dripping tap. The bath was also tiny !! The manager brought us a heater but he acted "put out" and rude. They need to employ people grateful for a job, not waiters who belong in weatherspoons. I have stayed in travel-lodges and had better service. The service is what makes all the difference. It's amazing what a smile and manors could do to improve guests stay here. By the time we got fed and heating in our room we would have been better staying at home and driving to the airport in the morning. Never again !
"Expensive restaurant and poor night sleep!"
Room was dirty. Pillows were uncomfortable and made it very hard to sleep and I take sleeping tablets so for me not to be able to sleep takes something major! We ate in the "Cube" restaurant and it was expensive for what we had. The broth the mussels were cooked in was odd tasting and the chicken breast was dry and rather paltry when sat on the plate. The wine was ok but not worth the money! We then sat in the bar area for a drink and again was charged far too much for what we had! The room had dust around the door frames and on the air conditioner. I slept terribly and the shower was rather odd in design. For a hotel near the airport it's fine but don't expect much!!! Parking was also confusing! Unfortunately I wouldn't return.
