This is my go to hotel when need to stay in the downtown area of Santiago and the service is generally good. Like the fact that hotel is within walking distance to Mercado and Plaza das Armas. You cannot, however, not notice that the hotel has seen its better days. Considering the room rates they charge this is not acceptable. The hallways and rooms are simply tired. I have had quite a few issues with the Wifi. It was non-existent at the 1911. Had to set up my own wireless access point using the Ethernet connection that is provided. Neither of my laptops have Ethernet ports anymore. Haven't seen any differences between how Platinum and Spire Elite members are treated.
"The best IHG hotel in the world! "
Between us, my wife and I have notched up more than 900 nights in IHG hotels for both business and pleasure, and we can say with certainty that our experience in Santiago's Crowne Plaza topped them all. The staff are extremely well trained and all seemed very keen on making our stay as special as possible. On arrival in reception, and without prompt, we were provided with an upgrade thanks to our loyalty status. This was followed the same night by a bottle of champagne delivered to our room, thanking us for choosing them as our hotel in Santiago. Throughout our stay, the reception staff and bell boy provided us with extremely helpful information on getting around the city, and provided us with good recommendations. Our room upgrade entitled us to use of the top floor club lounge, which provides an intimate, private breakfast as well as happy hour drinks and light snacks for most of the evening. The service from the breakfast chef was always provided with a smile - he seated us and then proceeded to make us tea, eggs, toast - even though we could have got most by ourselves from the buffet that had been set out. Room service better than most other IHG's - good quality, delivered with a smile. The hotel also has a well equipped gym and good sized pool, and is in a very convenient location to view the city's headline sites, with good access to the metro system. For anyone looking for a quality hotel for their stay in Santiago - choose the Crowne Plaza!
"Fine for one night"
Allocated hotel by cruise organiser. BIG crush on arrival because of passenger numbers. I escaped to the Bar where the service and English was very good. When luggage arrived by separate transport I collected my room key and from 16th floor had lovely view of the Madonna on the Hill. Large, well-furnished, carpeted room with good lighting but poor air conditioning - little adjustment no matter what I did to dial. Analogue tv with just three English language channels - BBC World News, HBO, and CNN. Multi-purpose and aesthetically pleasing Restaurant AND vegetarian food. All staff had been well trained and provided very good service.
"It is ok.."
I booked this hotel because Crowne Plaza is a well known chain. However, I was disappointed with the service but also the organisation of the staff... The only positive point was the outdoor pool with the jaccuzzi.
"All the same...."
All Crowne Plaza Hotels are the same. This one in Santiago could be an exact replica of the one on Broadway in New York City...well, at least, you know what to expect. I think that they are a much better chain than the Hiltons. We had a terrific room and a very good breakfast, so I am not complaining...just stating a fact. I think a little bit of local color somewhere might be a good idea....'
