"Out for lunch"
Pleasant lunch, slightly pricey for what's on offer in Brasserie restaurant, a bit more like Pub grub, food nothing spectacular for this standard of hotel, when asked if the Chef could do a Diane sauce to go with the Steak we were told quite bluntly no! Chef possibly not competent or unable to use his imagination, slightly disappointed in the response Steak was tough but we were compensated with a free coffee & juice, we didn't realise that there was a service charge on top of the bill too, don't think it was worth it!
"Excellent experience all round"
This was my first visit to this hotel; three friends set to enjoy a relaxing weekend. I found it online by accident, and was delighted that I did. The room we were in was one of the turret suites - it was very spacious with a huge bed in the main area, and two big beds in a separate room, which also had its own bath/ shower room, TV, drawers and tea making facilities. As well as the bed, the main room had a lovely bathroom with separate bath and shower, TV, tea making facilities, safe and ample hanging and drawer space. There was also a fridge in the main room, and ice making machines in a couple of locations in the corridors, so bringing our own g&t was not a problem! Only thing we needed was a lime! Staff came round in the evenings to top up tea, coffee, water etc. which was great. Our room was a bit cold on the first night (2 radiators weren't really sufficient to heat such a big room on a cold evening). Although we were a little disappointed that the problem wasn't resolved on the first evening, it was very swiftly dealt with by the duty manager on the Saturday when we discussed it again. The food in the Brasserie was nice, but the Pentland restaurant was another experience altogether. The food was absolutely delicious - all three of us thoroughly enjoyed all courses and found it to be very good value, especially on the DBB rate. The dining room was busy, but the service was spot on - friendly, helpful but not over the top. Breakfast was buffet style - a super choice of hot and cold food, and a chef was on hand to make fresh fried and poached eggs, and omelettes with your own choice from a selection of 'fillings'. I found the spa area and pool very clean and enjoyed a lovely swim there. There were staff on hand to help, a life guard was on duty at the pool side the whole time I was there. We found staff in all areas of the hotel to be very efficient and friendly giving us the feeling that they really did care about their guests. We were not there to play golf, so can't comment on the golf course, but we did have a wander round the grounds. These were very pleasant, although it would have been nice to have had a bit further to walk. I loved this hotel and would go back again - maybe take my husband next time!
"Fantastic, first class staff"
We had a lovely, relaxing overnight stay at Dalmahoy just over a week ago. From the moment we stepped into reception the staff could not have been more pleasant, courteous or helpful. Our room was not quite ready for us so we were offered free drinks in the cocktail lounge while we waited. When we got to our room 45 mins later it was large, pleasant and comfortable with a massive superking bed and seating area. I normally do not sleep away from home but I got my best night sleep in a long time that night. This speaks volumes for the comfort of the bedroom. We also had dinner in the brasserie, and breakfast was included. All food was excellent and the service provided by the very attentive staff cannot be faulted. Great selection of drinks available in the cocktail lounge. We hope to be making a return visit in the future.
We booked a last minute weekend break at Dalmahoy and could not have been happier with the warm reception and great service we received. Every member of staff we passed greeted us with a smile and a hello. The room was spacious and comfortable and the bed was massive! We ate in the bistro both evenings where, again, the staff were very friendly and attentive. Service was very quick and the food was just right after a day out socialising in Edinburgh. We arrived near the end of breakfast on the first morning and some items had run out. However, there was still plenty to choose from with a variety of cooked and continental options. When we managed to get up at a decent hour, breakfast was well stocked and very good. Although this hotel isn't in the city centre, I think that's a bonus...just a short hop from the hustle and bustle of Edinburgh, you have the peace and tranquillity of an impressive country house surrounded by acres of green space. Very relaxing and very enjoyable!
Stayed here for 3 nights arriving on Thursday 05th Jan. Usually stay in Edinburgh but decided to try a bit further out. We have relatives living nearby as well. Very nice grounds and very peaceful, we look forward to coming back in the summer when all the flowers would be out. Location is actually very convenient and one day we left the car at the hotel and got the bus from the front gate directly into Princess Street and back. A friendly welcome was received on check in and we found our bedroom to be of a good standard overall except for the double bed mattress which probably could do with being replaced. The Concierge team are very helpful and I got directions and brochure for the Air Museum of Scotland from them. We were joined by our friends on the Thursday night and had a meal in the Bistro which was excellent followed by a few drinks in the bar. My wife and I again went to the bistro on Saturday night and had steaks which were perfectly cooked to order. The staff were really very professional and yet made the time to have a friendly word with us. Breakfast were equally good, we both thought the scrambled egg was the best we had had in a hotel for a long time! Naturally we also had to sample a cocktail in the cocktail bar and they were excellent as well. We were sorry to have to leave on Sunday as we really felt we were being well looked after and so relaxed! Looking forward to a return visit in the summer to see the grounds in all their glory.
