"Terrible is an understatement "
The only positive comment I have for this hotel is that it's well located. The hotel is connected to the mall and is convenient for restaurants and shopping. I don't know where to start we arrived late due to blocked streets as a result of a protest which was on the news and clear for everyone to see and take note. This did not deter the hotel from wanting to give my room away. After a long and strenuous journey and being stuck in traffic for over two hours I needed to use the restrooms....disgusting is the only apt word. At this point tired with a headache I check in and go to my room wanting a shower as a result of urine all over the toilet seat and floor. As I sit my friend changes her babies diaper only to scream out in alarm about a huge cockroach on the bed. I call reception they say they will call me back. Time passes and I don't want to sit or open my bag and I just feel nauseated by the obvious lack of cleanliness at a supposedly five star establishment. Someone comes from housekeeping to kill the cockroach and has fun in my displeasure by pushing it in my face and chasing me with the cockroach. After voicing my displeasure I am transferred to a room next to an office and take my own luggage as it seems the staff cannot be bothered. This room had power extension cord hanging from the desk not exactly safe with a baby crawling around. The windows were dirty and let me not mention the obvious lack of finishing touches. I am tired with a headache and feel I need a shower the shower gel and shampoo are so little that one squeeze and nothing left. After all this unpleasantness I decide to call it a night in the morning the toilet is blocked and breakfast is a far cry for such an establishment. It seemed the hotel wanted to disappoint me at every turn as I found hair on my linen napkin at breakfast. The hotel advertises a pillow menu but have no idea of this service. The variety at breakfast was very basic and less special than your ordinary home breakfast. The breakfast was a real disappointment as that's what you look forward to when staying in a hotel. If you want a filthy well located hotel with a lack of service and obvious disinterest in their guests well being stay at the Da Vinci in Sandton. I certainly will never stay at this hotel again.
"Top-End Hotel in heart of Sandton City"
Stayed here at the end of April 2017 for business while commuting to Midrand. Much better to stay in a hospitable hotel and city than Midrand. Everyone working at DaVinci is very nice and helpful and the hotel is very nice. It is expensive and you can find other properties which are also good, but for the safety and security of being isolated in the Nelson Mandela Square, it is probably worth the extra money.
"Great breakfast, good city hotel"
This was a good and very comfortable hotel not too far from the airport with a great breakfast buffet. The room was quiet so sleep quality was good. It opens out into a large shopping area which in turn gives you access to Mandela Square without having to brave the city! Don't get too excited though it's an outdoor square surrounded by shops and containing an huge statue of Mandela.
"No hot water"
I stayed at the davinci for a short business trip. The room was lovely, clean and comfortable. The staff was were friendly. However, after arriving from the US after a long flight I was greeted with a cold shower. I reported it to the front desk who corrected it for my second day at the hotel. But then another cold shower on the third day, and no wash clothes in the room. Some of the lights didn't work in my room, there were not enough outlets and the hairdryer in the drawer of the desk was inconvenient. I am not usually a complainer but hot water, working lights and electrical plugs is not too much to expect from a hotel of this class.
"Very modern and upscale"
Best choice of breakfasts I have had in a long time. Staff were helpful. Corner room was spectacular. Good to be in a place that is so new, clean and upscale for a price that is average in the US. Love that with a late checkout on day to fly home the hotel offered a shuttle that took us to Lilisleaf, the hideout where Nelson Mandela had been found and arrested in a beautiful neighborhood. Pool was very cold in a sophisticated lounge area that inhibited a raucous swim with my granddaughter. The area was occupied by business people having drinks.
