"Don’t be mistaken by the nice look of this hotel"
Location: The hotel is very easy to find as it is near the highway exit “Lugano Sud”. And you can see it from the street. The drive to the hotel is nice and you can park right in front of the entrance. If you arrive on the first day, do not drive down to the underground parking as you can only access it with a hotel card and there is no bell. The reception: We arrived at half past midnight in early December and met probably the most incompetent receptionist. After asking us for the ID, which is normal, we were asked to give a credit card and e-mail address (he should have had both already had as we booked with booking.com). Then we also had to confirm the reservation, even though we were standing right there and he had our credit cards as guarantee. He wasn’t friendly and tried to make his point by raising his voice. As he copied the documents, entered data into the computer and talked to us at the same time we had to wait an unusual long time for all to be done. We hoped that for the check-out at least there would be another receptionist. The room: My room on the 5th floor was nice and quiet. The bed consists of 2 separate mattresses. There is no duvet instead there is a thin blanket. The bathroom has no shower but a bathtub with a dingy shower curtain. My colleague had a room on the 3rd floor and the said that he almost couldn’t sleep as the room temperature was unbearably hot. Of course you could open the window but a pleasant room temperature can be expected in a room equipped with air con. The breakfast: The breakfast looks good. But only from distance. All food looks and tastes as if they just warmed the breakfast from the last few days. Nothing tastes fresh. For the bread you have to cut a slice because it is all hard. And don’t even think about taking a piece of cake as it is all dried up too. Oh and I have never seen a darker coffee. It doesn’t even change color when you add milk. The check-out: We were wrong. The new receptionist isn’t more competent nor friendlier than the one for the check-in. When my colleague told her that his room was way too hot to get any rest she said that he should’ve called the reception in a reproachful tone. I wonder how they would’ve tried to help at 4am… The further check-out procedure again took way more time than normally and in the end she mixed up all receipts. With an irritated hiss she printed amended versions. Definitely not a hotel to go again.
The hotel is located close to the lake, only few minutes to reach it. The building is from the 1700, about 1 km from the city centre and 1 km from the railway station. Breakfast OK. Free minibar, but only with soft drinks. free wifi, outdoor swimmingpool
"WONDERFUL HOTEL AND GREAT SERVICE"
We stayed at the Hotel de la Paix for one week.We were a group of friends and all of us enjoyed our stay at the hotel very much. Actually, we did not want to leave. It is a beautiful hotel with a good location... We had booked 3 junior suites and one of them was upgraded to a suite. The junior suites were big, very well appointed, each had two terraces with outstanding views to the garden and to the lake. The suite was really enormous. The rooms were beautiful and very comfortable, with free minibar and free WIFI but what made our stay really special was the staff. Everybody, from reception to housekeeping and dining room waiters went out of their way to be welcoming and helpful ,always with a smile and a warm greeting. We would gladly come back and suggest this Hotel.
"Nice, spacious hotel with local touch"
The first benefit is that it's easy to find - less than 5 mins from the motorway exit and yet in a good location, walking (and viewing) distance from the lake, in a nice, quiet neighborhood ("Paradiso" - if that's not a promise ...) You feel you are in Ticino as the hotel has lots of greens around it, nice terraces, and a outdoor pool which looks good even when it is too cold to really swim. Inside, it shows signs of recent refurbishment and good maintenance. In the room floors, there is a certain smell however, which seems to come from the carpet. Some regular fresh air ventilation might help. The rooms are nice, and at many have a balcony from which there is a view to the lake and the mountains on the other side. The balcony doors could shut better, so there was less noise from the busy street underneath, but it's still in an acceptable range. Minibar is free .. but there are just a few cans of standard soft drinks. We would have preferred a nicely filled minibar, even if for a fee. Staff was friendly and helpful. My personal favorite was the hotel bar, which is really cosy and has nice comfy sofas. There is a grand piano there - must be nice on those days when actually someone plays it. But the BGM was okay too.
"Nice hotel with the very good service!"
Staff and hotel manager are very professional! Rooms are cosy and comfortable. Nice design. Good hot breakfast and ... Just a few steps from the nice lake! Italian pizzeria very close to the hotel. May be one of the best hotels in Lugano.
