Domes of Elounda is very conveniently located in Elounda of Crete with lots and lots of things to do, Plaka Village is in a walking distance (1,5 km away), while Elounda is a 5 minutes drive (2,5 km away) and Agios Nikolaos is a 10 minutes ride. All three nearby villages have tavernas and restaurants of excellent quality, bars and coffee shops, souvenir shops and markets too, if you are keen on exploring the neighbor area, stroll and take in the local culture.

"Feels like home"
We have visited a lot of first class resorts around the world. Most charming and incredible resorts. .. We like to explore and discover new places. But Domes are the only one in which we keep returning - this year for the 3rd time. Yes, it is incredible resort.... but what really makes a different here are it's people. They make you feel like you returned home, that you are part of this "family". First time here was in 2014, with 2 yrs old son Lars. Even in his mind, it was such an unforgettable expirience, that summer holidays don't really happen now, until we return back here - to see "Peter". ;) and every time we get here is even better! So, to the whole team and every member of it: "Thank you for making our vacation every time so memorable, thank you for all the small courtesies that make a difference, for all the smiles and effort and so much more! We do appreciate it and already looking forward to seeing you all next year. To all of you reading this in a search for your next vacation. You have found one!
Although we arrived at 9pm, we felt welcomed from the start. And an upgrade to the Villas was very nice. Imagine our surprise to have a private pool, 2 beds, living room, patio and kitchenette. We really enjoyed our 3 day stay. Breakfast buffet was great and every day something nice was delivered to our room, from Olive Oil to Red Wine. Can't wait to visit again.
"Steps - tragedy!"
Domes of Elounda I would just like to start post by saying I'm not normally "that " guy who has to comment on everything , write reviews etc I'm not normally the guy who takes anything back to a shop when it's the wrong size. But I will say I take my holidays pretty seriously I work hard all year so when I go away I want to enjoy it from start to finish. Here is my critic of this so called family hotel. When taking a young family away - we have 18 months and 3.75 years - the devil is in the detail. This hotel claims to be family friendly and come highly recommended on tots to travel and baby friendly bolt holes . For this father there are some key ingredients in creating a relaxing holiday. Safety, is number one on any parents list I'm sure and I'm no different. This hotel is littered with potential accidents for an 18 month old. Number 1 Steps - not the late 90's manufactured pop group played in the hotel bar. - but 30 of them to navigate every time you leave or enter your room and when I say steps I mean steep uneven odd sizing imitation medieval steps. Number 2 the incredibly steep walk ways from villa to pool or villa to reception / restaurants or reception to beach. In the 4 days I have been here I have chased after a stumbling toddler many times to ensure he has not fallen due to the gradient and unevenness of these paths. Number 3 a side board in the villa containing at first look a lovely coffee machine ( heavily used buy any new parent ) a kettle and wide selections of coffees , cups , water glasses, hotel telephone , vase with local flowers and DVD player. ( you think great) until you realise that it is all at under 50 cm - absolute heaven for any toddler. This has all now been placed on top of the microwave to keep out of reach. Next is not a safety concern but just a huge annoyance for me and many other parents I'm sure. The lack of buggy accessibility to restaurant , pool , beach , reception, due to the navigation of so many steps. In any family holiday you will see the any number of dads walking the young ones under he cover of a sunshade / towel / muslin / t-shirt . The buggy is a trusted chariot of any parent and is completely redundant in this resort. Leaving us parents hostage in our room until junior wakes up. Pool / Beach area : 3 good sized pools, one covered for shaded swimming, a rare plus point for this place - the others are way too deep for any child to safely navigate on their own. The enormous 80m pool which looks so inviting on the web - is in fact so cold that no one has been seen in it for the first 4 days. In fact chatting with 2 sets of parents at breakfast, both with under one year old, they were a touch annoyed that the pool option has been removed from their activity schedule. To boot these ( freezing ) pools are completely unsupervised - I'm not in the habit of leaving either of my children by any open water - but this does seem a little reckless not to have a single life guard in such a big area full of kids. Speaking to a number of dads while around the pools - the first comments have been " have you attempted the ice bath yet'" Referring to the largest pool. Which is liked attempting a charity challenge rather than a place you will spend 40 mins with your child pre lunch. Seriously Most of the kids round the pool found the water too cold. Beach - small and water is clear with little waves so good for little one to paddle not supervised tho - once you have removed your hiking equipment / or tied up the pack horse (remember no buggy ) and got there you will realise the nicest spots near the beach bar have been reserved for the quite zone ( adults only). Amazing. The beach shop sells high end swimwear ideal for the monied elite sitting in the adults only area - not a bucket and spade in sight - I was told they are sold at the hotel supermarket - a day night expedition (still no buggy ) next to the 80m pool. So more fool you if you forget the beach toys. Most parents will be well informed of the witching hour and internationally recognised "crazy time" where kids want to run wild and parents want wine to numb the pain. If you would normally choose the beach for this be aware the beach bar will take last orders at 5.45. - for my two this is just about when they are reaching crescendo. Closing the bar at that time is a heinous crime for any parent. The hotel and its staff are very nice and welcoming to not only my kids but all the families I have seen here. This is not my issue. Tots to travel heavily oversold this place as "family friendly" yes you get a microwave , steriliser , coffee machine in your room. But I'm not sure that is what I consider suitable for a young family. If getting your new born from room to reception: breakfast involves removing them from their buggy or abseiling down a 30% gradient - then this hotel has missed the point. I have, during my week, found out that this hotel was originally a honeymooners paradise which over the 6 years of being here has evolved. To roots of this place is for honeymooners that has not changed and that is where the problem lies. Where they have added the family parts there has been little thought about how a young family functions - the nearest toilets to the main dining room are into the reception and down 2 flights of stairs. Killer when kids want to go 3/4 times in a meal. The kids play ground is isolated miles from either side of the hotel. To conclude dads if you think about coming bring a mountain goat / South American pack horse (as the wheel has little use here), a winter wetsuit for all the family as the pools are so cold
"One of the best!"
Just finished a great vacation at the Domes where everything was perfect. The staff can't do enough to help you, the villas are top quality, the location is excellent and the choice of restaurants are first class. The dine-around option is very flexible and tremendous value. We will definitely return.
Just got back from our holiday, which was to give us a well earned rest. Have to say we got just that .Nothing was to much trouble for the staff, customer service was brilliant ,so friendly ,polite and professional.Would definitely recommend.
