"Great service, beautiful hotel"
Donnafugata combines most of the elements that you seek from a great resort hotel First and foremost, great customer service in an unobtrusive way. All of the staff that we met were friendly, welcoming, helpful - nothing was too much trouble Second, first class facilities. We went primarily to play golf and the courses were first class. Well laid out, picturesque but still presenting a challenge. The restaurants were good and the a la carte excellent. And a good spa with all the usual facilities. Finally very comfortable well-equipped rooms My only observations would be (a) be aware of the differnt types of rooms. Whilst ours was very comforatble it was on the first floor and had a small balcony. If I had been aware that there were ground floor rooms with small gardens I think I would have taken one of those; (b) wi-fi is not free in the rooms. It is in the main reception area and to be honest was sufficient for my needs; however it is disappointing for a charge to be levied for a room service which should by now be as standard as a safe or a shower! But those are minor niggles. Donnafugata was wonderful, with interesting places to visit nearby if, of course, you can tear yourself away from the comfort of the resort itself!
"Fantastic Resort in the heart of Sicily!"
Donnafugata was a beautiful place to stay on an island where true 5 star hotels and resorts are difficult to come by. The staff, led by the incredible Hassan, was so accommodating to our 3-night stay here: the food at the Bedde Mia restaurant was excellent, the spa is large and well-maintained, and the rooms are exceptionally clean and comfortable. We enjoyed every minute of our stay and the hotel is perfectly situated for people who would like to visit Ragusa Ibla, Agrigento (Valley of the Temples) and the Turkish Steps. Highly recommended to anyone traveling to Sicily!
"A great holiday"
Wanting to explore Sicily as well as golf, Donnafugata was ideally placed for us. The golf is great, at the time of our visit it was very quiet so some days we saw maybe 2 or 3 others. By playing early we were able to get away to explore the area. Our trip up to Mount Etna was a day out but truly to be recommended. The restaurant and bar staff are helpful, courteous and professional, and the food very good. They really undersell themselves and you have to explore the place to get the best of it. The Spa is a must as is a car, assuming you are prepared for bad roads and of course 'Italian' drivers! We've explored this corner of Sicily so may not return but do recommend others to.
"Appaling service - definitely not 5 star"
Stayed at the resort as part of our golf trip to Sicily. The resort has a nice feel to it in the rolling hills of Southwest Sicily and we liked the golf courses - many interesting holes and the landscape plays very well into the courses. By far better than the boring courses at the Verdura resort though not very difficult for single handicappers. The links course has nothing to do with links golf courses, nevertheless it was an interesting course to play. The house keeping staff was friendly and the room clean. The spa was lovely (though the one hour maximum-policy is really strange in an off-peak time) where we also received friendly service. The location is decent near Ragusa and Modica, and relatively close to Noto. I have to give 2/5 with the reasons below: Service. At breakfast we had the most horrible service (or well no service) with the male staff member rather chatting with his colleagues (who btw were eating at breakfast amongst the guests - sorry this does not fly!) than asking us if we wanted a coffee. 15 minutes later he walks over after we picked up our coffees from the machine (coffee was disgusting - how can you not service proper coffee in Italy'') to ask "do you want coffee" and then proceeds to chat with his colleagues again! On the last day we also found out by observing others being served that you can order eggs. Not that anyone told us that. On our first day playing golf we arrived at the pro shop to check in at 7 45 (15 mins prior to our t-time) to find that no one was there to check us in. No one also picks up the pro shop/club house telephone after 3pm. Some staff members (spa staff included) are genuinely friendly and service-oriented but too many avoid eye contact and do not greet guests. Food. We ate at the 19th hole restaurant at lunch time and picked something from the buffet. The food was stale and had no taste to it. The pork in lemon sauce was rubbery and the cannolo ricotta filling tasted old and the pastry itself was soggy and soft - definite signs they were prepared days ago. Just horrible. If it is not busy time at the resort then do not offer a buffet if you cannot offer fresh food! Quality of breakfast was also abysmal with cold pancakes and waffles and zero variety. The round small donuts were hard, a sign that they were also old. Room. While clean, it was maybe at a 3 star level as it was rather small. Hard, creaky twin beds, uncomfortable pillows (though they do offer a pillow service). The bathroom was fine but not 5 star for sure. Obviously coming at off peak time we received a great rate but I would not pay the prices at peak season. All in all a very disappointing stay.
"Lovely golf resort for training camp!"
The Danish Golf National Team held their annual training camp at Donnafugata from 14-21 February 2017. We had received a great offer and were excited to explore the facilities at Donnafugata. When we arrived on Feb 14 we were welcomed by the friendly and service-minded staff at the reception - you felt very welcome and got the feeling that this is a very unique spot in Sicily...the main lobby is amazing! ROOMS/HOTEL: The rooms are spacious with a large bathroom, comfortable beds and lots of closet space. The interior and resort is beautiful and the buildings blends perfectly into the surrounding green areas. Everything is well maintained. Outdoor pool area was closed for the winter but it looked nice - fitness/spa area was great. Loved the steam bath and the indoor pool where you could easily spend 60 min. per day (if we only had the time to so do :) ).... Wifi works great around the resort - all the way from the lobby to the driving range. FOOD: The breakfast was amazing with everything you could desire! Loved the Latte Macchiato and nutella croissant! We had buffet lunch and dinner as part of our group event and the food was good. Lots of pasta with different sauces - perfect for young athletes with a busy schedule. As an adult gourmet I could have hoped for a bit more variety in the menu - maybe next year :) GOLF: Obviously the golfing facilities was the most important thing for us! Unfortunately the short game area and putting green was not up to standards and that was really our only concern for the week - had they been better I would have given the resort 5 stars! The condition of this area should be improved if we shall come back to Donnafugata next year as this is crucial for the players' ability to practice well throughout the week. The driving range was fine and the two 18 holes course (Links and Parkland) were great and very different which gave the players lots of variety during the day. The greens on the courses were in a better condition than the putting green, so thumbs up for that. All in all Donnafugata is a beautiful spot in the Sicilian countryside and hopefully we will return next year!
