"Hotel okay, service very poor"
The hotel is currently undergoing renovation. Although this did not affect our hotel stay, it changed the contents of our package which meant we had to eat in the Garden Room, not the MPW restaurant as booked. Service was extremely poor, food was not good, we do not recommend eating here any time soon.
"Very very disappointing second time here first time was great! "
Currently staying at this hotel. Had some initial booking issues with the Hilton call centre really poor customer service but finally the hotel manager called me and very helpfully resolved and also made sure there was a bottle of one wine in one of the 2 rooms we had booked. Very thoughtfully he also had s birthday cake put in one of the rooms. Upon arrival however car park packed and didn't realise the hotel was undergoing renovation. I cannot understand given the state of this hotel why its fully booked. Really disappointing. Despite the state of the hotel there is a £15 charge per person fir use of the spa and pool which isn't that big or impressive! The rooms are basic, no bath and beds hard. I do hope the Marco Pierre whites tonight makes up for the poor start - given that this is now the temporary main entrance for the hotel hardly a cosy and inviting area for a relaxing drink!
"Poor and disappointing"
No meet/greet when enter front door Health Club toilets - level of cleanliness is poor - walls need repainting/paint looks tired. Toilet flush buttons full of fingerprints, empty tissue boxes. Dirty mirrors. Conservatory area - carpet in desperate need of vacuuming, dirty table cloths. Main hotel - toilets dirty, no paper towels, general cleanliness issue. Lunch - no fries arrived, asked and was told 'it isn't working'' Was given crisps instead' No apology. Salad came but was not on menu' If I knew would have asked for no dressing. There was no coleslaw as mentioned on menu' Told the waitress it was 'poor' but she did not understand me. Waived and got attention of male waiter, he explained he did not know it was not working (the fryer'). Lady (manager') came across, recognised it was poor but again language barrier appeared to be an issue and reduce the empathy factor. Then just under 10 minutes later fries arrived and she went out of her way to correct the issue, but already eating from 3 plates at this point! Can not help but think the Brand name is keeping this hotel in business. My advice would be to stay in Chester and there are many places that will give you a much better experience.
"another great stay"
My wife and myself have just returned from a one night stay at the doubletree chester hilton hotel and spa . Yes there is building work going on around the hotel and grounds but this did not affect our stay and the whole experience was fantastic. We got an upgrade to a suite , which was a fantastic room with full bedroom and living space , along with a bathroom containing walk - in shower and large bath. We dined in the brand new garden room , which has been refurbished to a very high standard and the three courses that we had were all top quality. The spa and pool facilities are also excellent and we spent 2 hours relaxing in the pool , sauna , steam room . Breakfast in the morning was so relaxed and the choice and quality of all food was excellent , with cereal , pasteries , full english breakfast , along with coffees , teas and fruit juices . A friendly professional attitude by all members of staff made our stay perfect and we will be returning in the next four weeks. Thanks again to all staff.
"Not at it's best at the moment"
I visit this hotel frequently and to be fair the experience is pretty good. The staff are attentive, polite and good mannered. The rooms are great and the dining facilities are excellent with a new bistro style restaurant and a Marco Pierre White facility. HOWEVER There is a major refurbishment project currently underway both internally and externally with a new car park being created in the adjacent field. Parking is all over the place at the minute, the grounds are messy and I wouldn't wear my best shoes trying to find the entrance in all that mud. If you can cope with mess then fine but it bugs me.
