"Short break birthday treat."
Stayed here for 3 night short break for my wife's birthday from 12th January. We had great service from moment we arrived to when we left. Reception staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very good plenty to choose from and the staff at breakfast very friendly and willing to have a chat about plans for the day. Hotel in great location 10 minute walk to castle, 5 minutes to Grass market where there are bars and restaurants. Reception staff will order taxi for you for longer distances, taxis arrived within 5 minutes. Rooms are good only downside was that quite dark and only one chair, but great view of Castle from our widow. All in all a great stay and I would definitely return.
"Excellent Christmas Day Meal"
My family chose to have our Christmas Day meal at the Family Carvery being offered by the Doubletree Hotel, and we had an excellent experience. The staff were very helpful, the food excellent both in terms of quality and choice, and an activities room for the five boys with us meant that they fully enjoyed the experience. As Grandad, I had taken a room at the hotel where we all gathered to open presents, and the whole day was a great success. I make special mention of Alain, the Manager responsible for the Carvery - he was organised and unfailingly helpful - and also Murray who was looking after the Carvery Bar - he was keen to be of service and a credit both to himself and t Hilton. An excellent stay!
"Good business stay"
I stayed here on business and got a great rate (<£70 0per night, breakfast an extra £10). First impressions were good. Reception staff were friendly, check in was quick and I got a warm cookie! The room was ok (bit of a weird shape, very long and narrow) - clean and pretty well equipped. Breakfast was excellent, with one small gripe. It was supposed to start at 0630 but on my second morning the hot buffet was still being put out at 0645. Location is excellent in terms of getting to places - easy access to both stations, close to nice bars and restaurants on Lothian Road, <5 minutes walk to the Grassmarket and castle. The one thing to be aware of is that it is next to an area known colloquially as the "pubic triangle", a small area of strip clubs. So may not be the place to take the family after dark! As long as you turn left out of the front door you'll be fine!!
