Stayed here in July. Staff were extremely nice, 5 mins walk to tube, right around corner from Imperial College and Natural History and Science Museums. When we arrived our room hadn't been cleaned so we were immediately given a new one from the staff who couldn't have been nicer. The room was great, very modern and extremely clean. The shower is the best I have come across in a hotel and the mattress is so soft you sink into it, which was perfect. The location is great, there are plenty of restaurants in the vicinity and Hyde Park is only a short walk. It is a bit away from the main nightlife areas but with the new night tube in operation getting home shouldn't be a problem. Overall great hotel, I would recommend staying here
This hotel is badly managed and badly maintained. Checked in 430 pm after a long journey to be given a room on the 1st floor. Water in sink was either very hot or scalding. Called reception. 530 no one had attended so tried the shower. Burnt myself on the scalding water that came out despite the switch being at 38 degrees. Called reception. Maintenance man arrived 6pm and spent 20 mins running water in the sink. Then said it was fixed and left. Tried the shower. No change. Called reception. Manager arrived with maintenance man and could not fix it. Offered me a different room on 2nd floor. Walked in to find toilet seat up and cigarette ash (presumably left by housekeeping) in toilet. Disgusting. Called reception. Manager came and flushed toilet. Tried water to find same problem - hot or scalding. Too hot to take a shower even when on "cold". Manager then offered me a room on 3rd floor at other side of hotel. Had to pack everything and move room again. Turned a/c on in new room to find machine sounded like a traction engine - no way I could sleep with that. Called reception. Maintenance came and said he couldn't deal with it and walked away. Went to reception and had distressing 15 minute conversation with manager about my stay and the fact I had been in the hotel for over 2 hours and had encountered problem after problem. Manager then offered me a junior suite on the top floor and assured me it would be perfect. Went with concierge who couldn't get the a/c working in there so was left for 20 mins whilst they found another room. Which they did but instead of apologising the manager did a runner and left a poor housekeeping lady to deal with me. The offer of a suite was also reneged upon. So it took 4.5 hours from walking into the hotel to actually being able to take a shower. It was now 830pm and I'd missed my evening appointment and was very distressed and angry. I'd told the manager I expected not to have to pay for that night. He was on duty when I checked out but he refused to deal with me, instead taking the receptionist into an office and telling her to give me 30% off. A real kick in the teeth for the awful experience I'd had. I appreciate things can sometimes go wrong but this was truly awful. The fact the management refused to "make it right" without argument was very distressing and a very poor advertisement for the Hilton brand. Such a shame as the hotel itself is actually rather nice - they just don't do enough to make it an enjoyable experience.
"Great hotel with easy access to any location"
The hotel is situated near to the tube and if you plan to stay near central London this is the right hotel for your stay. There are many restaurants nearby ranging from typical local cuisines to asian cuisines. The hotel is clean and the staff is friendly. The only downside about this hotel is that the room given to me was small and if you are looking for a big spacious room then this hotel might not be your best choice. If you are taking any special tours from Golden Tours Travel Agency, they do provide a morning pick-up from this hotel and it would save your trip from traveling to the Victoria Station. Overall I enjoy my 2 nights stay there.
The DoubleTree Hilton Hotel in South Kensington is ideally placed for sightseeing and enjoying a good selection of bars and restaurants. The staff are warm and welcoming and the buffet breakfast gives you just the start you need. Perfect for a short break and easy close access to the underground.
"Great location but hotel needs some maintenance"
The location is superb in the heart of South Kensington and 5 minutes from the tube. The staff are great and the public area good. We had two different rooms during out stay. The second was a king double deluxe which as you would expect was better than the queen deluxe. However, both rooms suffered from two annoying features. One is that the cold water is really hot, not luke warm but hot. The second is that there a variety of clever lights, some only triggered by movement that are unfathomable. I stay in Hiltons all the time and have never experienced either problem. They both seem to be part of a botched upgrade which has failed to improve the guest experience
