We had booked in this hotel through booking 10 mints before our trip. We have the credit card to secure the booking and instead of checking it before they did it the last day whilst we were travelling to NY (from London). There was an issue in the card therefore they cancelled our reservation without notifying us and / or booking therefore they had No rooms available. This happened after 8 hours in a flight and the way that the front desk staff behaved with us is outrageous. The manager said that we might be in financial difficulty if the card doesn't work and then they lied to us in our face saying that they wanted to contact us to let us know the issue but didn't have our contact details (when another member of staff confirmed our email and telephone 5 minutes before). In the end we had to go to a different hotel for a night and we managed to keep the price arranged through booking (they wanted to change the fare) and only compensated us by inviting to us for breakfast one day (the breakfast was not even very good for the price). The way they behaved and the bad compensation clearly doesn't make me want to go back to the hotel
"Great Hotel In a Great Location"
We've stayed at this hotel many times. It is a modern, comfortable hotel. The staff is always accommodating. The location in the heart of Midtown Manhattan is great, particularly with the subway right outside the door.
"Reception Staff Lacking"
Everyone was nice with the exception of the front desk check in. Snippy demeaning attitude by Vicki. I am a diamond member and was treated very unprofessional by Vickie and the lady at the HH desk. I would suggest giving these ladies a hospitality course or take them off the front desk. Everyone else was great if you could avoid them at check in. Janice and Jackaline were very nice at the front desk at check out.
"OK hotel with reception staff suffering from delusions of grandeur...disappointing!"
From day one it was clear that the Reception staff were not he most engaging of people. Disinterested and showing very little manners, with Karen as the exception. I had read various reviews with a large number mentioning poor reception staff, which I was willing to give the benefit of the doubt...until I had first hand experience (on 3 occasions) and also witnessed one lady snapping very rudely at some guests, who's first language wasn't English. Wrong room type at check-in resulting in one of the rooms not being fitted out for mobility users, which we requested and paid extra for. Poor communication prior to going over to the states, I was promised a communication from the reservations team prior to my arrival, which didn't happen and then my message was ignored while over there. Bar and house-keeping staff do the hotel proud, but your reception team are in severe need of some training in the art of people skills. I honestly could not believe how consistently lacking they were. Location was good. Keycard stopped working on two occasions which resulted in an awful lot of wasted time waiting on lifts, dealing with staff who couldn't show any enthusiasm to help. This was my third time to NYC and this hotel ranks 3rd of three.
"So and so - Reception could be better"
Though HHonor membership the reception gave me the wrong room. The reception said the rooms on normal floors are the same as HHonor floors! Also the reception were not very helpfull and friendly such as ordering taxi for the airport.
