This hotel is good for families due to the size of the rooms. Bathrooms had two vanities which is nice when traveling with teenagers. microwave and mini fridge are provided. I agree it could use some updating but as far as comfort goes it was very comfortable. We were on the16th floor and could not hear any street noise. Loved the pub around the corner. Will come back.
"Grace for Extenuating Circumstances"
I changed my flight plans to get ahead of the winter storm (Stella) and was able to get a room at the Doubletree. The location is smack dab in the middle of Times Square; the entrance overlooks the iconic Times Square steps that rise above the TKTS kiosk. So, everything a tourist needs is right there. The room was what I normally expect from a Doubletree - clean and comfortable with a large bathroom. The check-in staff was courteous and acknowledged that if the storm turned really bad, they would reconsider later check-out times the next day. I had dinner in the lounge as the restaurant is not open at night; the french onion soup and chicken caesar salad were good. That evening the storm came in. The next day, the breakfast buffet was extended by an hour to accommodate the dozens of patrons who had to wait 20-30 minutes to be seated. My guess is that some of their staff did not make it in. I overhead several people who ordered off the menu grumbling about how long it was taking to get their meal so I opted for the buffet, which had a decent variety of hot and cold breakfast foods with a wonderful addition of chicken dumplings available. So, the reason I'm only giving this hotel 4 stars is not because of the wait, but because the buffet was a whopping $33, about the same price as my whole dinner.
"Great Location but noisy during night"
These suites are in an ideal location for theatres, restaurants, and picking up tour buses right on the corner of Times Square The suite itself although a little dated is extremely comfortable, spotless clean and spacious, it is great to have a completely separate lounge you can closeout from the bedroom, and with the coffee machine, microwave and little kitchen area it is extremely handy, the only downside is everything's paper cups and not even a plate a knife or teaspoon in the room, I actually went out and bought a mug as I don't like drinking out of cardboard, although that appears normal in NYC. Also no room service available was a downside especially after a long exhausting day would have liked one day just to eat in the room. Great bathroom area again very spacious and good shower over bathtub, plenty of hot water, the housekeeping is excellent and brought bathrobes, extra tea coffee on request at no extra charge and plenty of towels, cleanliness again excellent. The concierge extremely helpful in booking restaurant and general information, nothing too much trouble. Bar area was good and service excellent although you cannot get a coffee after 11.30am Seemed crazy to me. I think thing to remember if booking here it is not a hotel as such so just be aware that all services you get in a 4/5 star hotel are not available but you get the advantage of the space, being able to bring in your own food if you want and a superb location. The only big problem lies the noise during the night from builders and erection companies banging like mad can be at Mid-night 5 am in the morning there is obviously no restriction here on noise levels, and whilst this is absolutely no fault whatsoever of the hotel it is extremely annoying. Overall our experience has been excellent and I would definitely recommend it.
The hotel gave us very big room, which is unusual in New York. Also, the bed was very comfortable and was a king size. I enjoyed the free Wi-Fi in the room. The room itself was very quiet; we stayed on the 10th floor and didn't hear any noise at all. The best part is the location of the hotel which is in the center of times square and all main attractions and subways are very close to the hotel.
"Don't understand all the great reviews "
We stayed here for 4 nights, and aside from getting a good rate, there was nothing great about this hotel. Granted, the hotel is in the middle of Times Square, but it's very noisy and very busy all the time. Our room was old, very old. The furniture was old, the carpet was old, the bathroom fixtures were old. This place is in desperate need of a make over. The tv would lose signal all the time and freeze. We were on the 22nd floor and we could still here street noise and had trouble sleeping. I didn't find the staff overly helpful or friendly. Would never stay here again.
