"Grandmother, mother and daughter visit NYC for the first time and loved it!!!!"
Flew with BA from London, and this was one of the many hotels to choose from and having never been to NYC before, I'm glad I choose this hotel for my 1st stay in this amazing city!! We arrived Thursday at 12:30pm and our room was ready for us. I had been emailing previously as wanted to make sure that we had twin beds and I got just what I asked for- room 2303 on the 23rd floor!!!! Please see my pics attached as views truly were amazing. The suite had a double sofa bed in the living room, 2x Queen beds in the bedroom which I can honestly say was one of the most comfortable beds/pillows I have EVER slept in!! The living room contained double sofa bed, single armchair and huge desk/chair with 32inch TV. The bedroom had 2x Queen beds and another 32inch TV, phone and iPod docking radio alarm and complimentary ear plugs as even though we were so high up you could still hear the noise from outside. I must say I was worried as the sirens and honking of horns were so loud but you soon get used to it! The kitchenette had a full size fridge freezer, full size gas cooker, microwave, dishwasher, cooking utensils and crockery, toaster and Lavazza coffee machine which they replenish the coffee sachets, tea Bags and sugar. They even give you dishwasher tablets/cloth/sponge/washing up liquid and tea towels!! My only complaint it no kettle. Us Brits do like a cup of tea, so we used a pan and boiled the water. No biggie, but kettle would have made it that much better! The closet in the living room came with bedding for the sofa bed, we did have to ask for a duvet though as just a blanket/sheet given and was cold the first few nights there! The closet also contained iron/board and safe that was free of charge. The bathroom had all facilities, toiletries given, hairdryer, fresh towels daily and good shower that was easy to use. The only weird thing for us was the toilet was a little bit lower than we were used to and the water level in the toilet bowl was very high'' and every time we flushed the chain there was always the fear it would overflow- little disconcerting lol!! The living room and bedroom had there own air con which worked very well, however the first few days we were cold and couldn't work out how to put the heating on. After speaking to the front desk we were advised that the temp was 63 degrees outside and the heating came on at 59 degrees which was a bit strange that it was so controlled by the hotel, however after the first few days NYC had a mini heatwave in October so we were walking around in T-Shirts boiling hot!!! :) it was gorgeous and unexpected for that time of year!! The hotel is situated on 34th Street, and dependent on how quickly you walk, just 10 minute walk to the Empire State Building which is on the same side of the road as the hotel. 15min walk to a Macy's, 30min walk to Time Sq, and 40mins to Bloomingdales on 59th Street. Your near Park Av, Lexington Av and Madison Av. Great location!! Lots of food shops, 7 elevens and Gristedes Megastore (big supermarket) 5mins away on 26th street, just behind hotel. Subway and Penn station 10min walk away. Very good connections to Staten Island, Rockefeller Center, the Bronx, Brooklyn and more!! We found a great diner called Murray Hill diner, just 5min walk, where we had breakfast and dinner many times during our stay and it wasn't until the last day we realised that the food service menu in our hotel room was supplied and delivered by them as the hotel does not have a kitchen/restaurant. Overall, a really pleasant stay and didn't want to leave. You could actually live there! I never used it, but complimentary wine, soft drink at 5-6pm daily in the lobby (which is tiny), free, good WIFI, the Concierge, reception staff amazingly helpful and polite. Hotel Situated near everything, Suite was roomy and comfortable, bed was amazing, yes, the place could do with some modernisation, some pictures on the wall of NYC and a lick of paint would brighten it up, but when, not if, I return Dumont NYC is the place I will be staying!!!! Highly recommend.
Great place to stay. Friendly, very helpful staff. Cannot recommend highly enough for comfort and convenience, Spacious and well equipped for all travelers. Special mention for the reception and information guys who were always happy to assist, Everyone from the doormen to the luggage guy deserve a pat on the back for making us all feel so welcome. Excellent daily maid service.
My wife and I with our 2 teenage daughters stayed here after some positive reviews online from travel websites. We were not disappointed! It is located near to Macy's and next to, as corny as it sounds, a Dunkin' Doughnut! Check-in was quick and easy and we upgraded there to an apartment on a higher floor which meant it was quieter and we got free wi-fi (there's free wi-fi in the lobby and lounge, but not in most rooms). We got 2 very large Queen sized beds and an HD television, as well as a desk. The kitchen was adequate as was the en-suite shower and toilet. Some water dripped down from our bathroom ceiling and after a call to reception, the repairman was up within 10mins and the 'leak' sorted (it originated from the room upstairs). The air-con was a bit noisy (akin to sleeping on the aeroplane with the engine in the background) but that's the price for a cool evening! I was glad we got away from the street noise as I could just make out passing sirens, so it would have been much worse at lower levels! The staff were friendly, always up for a tip I would think as most places (restaurants, etc.) all expect the same, and the hotel was located near to the subway station and some good local cafes. As we were about 3 'blocks' from Macy's (the Department store), the hotel is also not far from the route of the hop on - hop off tourist buses so came in handy for getting around the place. Checking out was fine - the staff put our luggage in the store so we could sightsee until our pre-booked car arrived to take us to the airport, so we made full use of our time there. All in all, I would recommend this hotel.
Hotel is in a good location in NYC walking distance to midtown manhattan, close to the subway station and Grand Central. We had a corner room so it was very spacious and well lit. The Kitchenette was a welcome addition. Rooms a little tired but very clean and comfortable. Front of house staff incredibly friendly especially the concierge staff, I would return.
"Friendly, Comfortable Place"
This particular affinia hotel can be identified for it's very warm and comforting environment. I believe that the staff from the management to every level are genuinely warm people. In addition they accept pets, and should be applauded for this. I stayed here over 3 years ago and I think that the suites and hotel entrance should be altered/upgraded. I also think that the amenities package should be improved, and a contract with a livery service should be considered. This is one of my favorite hotels, and I have stayed in quite a few. I can't wait to come back here in the near future.
