"Great location, needs some work to get to 5*"
We spent two nights at the Dusit, one either side of a trip into the jungle. Our first experience of Dusit service was at the airport where a driver was waiting for us although we hadn't booked it which was a pleasant surprise. The hotel's price isn't as cheap as a taxi but a good start nonetheless. The hotel check-in procedure was a bit of a hassle due to an online booking credit card not being charged properly but that was quickly resolved by the pleasant front-desk staff who work in a large entrance lobby where the calm and tranquility is a total contrast to the Chiang Mai chaos just yards outside the front door. We were served refreshingly cool drinks at the desk whilst the staff completed the registration. The hotel is enjoys a great location for visiting the famous street markets and food stalls, but please be wary of pickpockets and distraction scams and don't carry backpacks on your back or phones in back pockets. Our first night's room was on the fourth floor and reasonably modern, a little bit tired around the edges (e.g. electrical sockets and switches) but quiet and well-appointed - everything we needed was there. Sadly the wi-fi went down soon after arriving and was still offline when we checked out the following morning. Breakfast was standard buffet fayre for a large hotel with a wide choice of food catering for all tastes and appetites. The egg station chef made a good omelette. For our second night we were upgraded to the sixth floor in a similar room but with less wear and tear. Once again wifi problems were experienced so a trip to the concierge desk on the seventh floor (on which is located free drinks and snacks) soon resolved the problem. The shower's water temperature on the sixth floor was a bit random with fluctuations between hot and cool at random times. If we'd been staying longer we would have asked for another room but as this was a very brief overnight stop we didn't let it bother us. We used the hotel's shuttle van to return to the airport at 0415 - the streets were completely empty which was a revelation after the solid traffic of a few hours before and our driver soon got us to the terminal. All in all the Dusit is a good place to stay, just about the right side of value for money given the location and the quality of the room fittings. The staff were excellent.
"Good location, lovely staff"
From the moment we were greeted at the door with a refreshing icy drink, our stay at Dusit D2 was wonderful. The room was large and well-appointed, with a very comfy bed, reading bench, and clean shower. We ate breakfast at the buffet on most mornings, with lots of different foods. Everyone we dealt with, from the room cleaners to the front desk to the doormen, were friendly, professional, helpful. Also, a 10 minute walk away from the East Gate, and right next door to a number of night markets.
"Conveniently located; attentive service"
We stayed here 4 nights in the club room. Service staff were warm and courteous and generally very attentive. Buffet breakfast spread was decent, not exceedingly good. Wish there were more local tropical fruits offered in the spread. Papaya, pineapple, watermelon, rock melon were what we had during our 4 days. I think more variety of local fruits would have been appreciated. On our last day, we had a la carte lunch at Moxie and it was surprisingly good! I suppose, one doesn't really need to eat in the hotel as there are plenty of choices just a short walk from the hotel. The hotel location is really excellent for tourists. Night bazaar and lots of eating places just a few steps away. It's also a short walk from Chinatown market - nice to go there for a short walk in the mornings and take in the local way of life. There is also a halal market nearby only on Friday mornings. As for the hotel, I personally felt that the additional $ I paid for the club room wasn't that value for money. The spread for the evening cocktails were very limited. The room was also quite smallish (compared to other club rooms I have stayed in). But maybe the normal rooms are very small -- I am not sure. Rooms felt a bit tired and in need of upgrade. Do note that some rooms come with bath tub, some with shower. So if u have a preference, you may wish to state it during reservation. Am not sure whether DusitD2 is a 4* hotel. I would think it hovers between 3.5 & 4*. But for its convenient location, I think I would stay here again. But maybe not the club room.
"A nice place, great staff"
Well run , efficient hotel near the night market. Some distance from old town so you will need to take a 20 min walk or Tuk tuk. Staff delightful , extremely helpful and thoughtful. Breakfasts good but some food could be hotter. Rooms fine but that strange arrangement where bathroom only separated by a blind. The taxis they organised were excellent. Recommended.
"Rooms need updating! The Hotel staff was excellent."
On the positive side, I could not ask for a better location for our stay, a one minute walk to the night market for shopping, many choices of food and countless inexpensive massage shops. The staff was excellent from the doormen, front desk clerks and buffet service workers. My complaint are the rooms. The carpet was filthy and all the furniture was scratched. The bed was very uncomfortable, I don't mind firm/hard beds but our bed had bumps everywhere you laid. The bathroom was decent and large. I would rate this hotel as a 3 star at best. The hotel should spend some money and update the rooms. As it is a Dusit, I expected more.
