"25th Wedding Anniversary"
Best place --romantic and fun to be there. Great beach. The front desk made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. The room was large and had an infinity pool. The room was very comfortable. Overall, this was one of the best vacations we have ever had!!
"Amazing Staff and Food too!"
From the moment we arrived, we felt the warmth of the staff. The next day at breakfast, Eroin welcomed our requests with a smile. On the beach we were pampered by Diego who kept the refreshments coming. Alex, Angel and Giselle kept us entertained with beach volleyball and dance lessons! "Scualo" our life guard was excellent with an old injury that popped up during our stay. Finally, Cynthia, our personal concierge provided professional assistance from the beginning to the end our our EXCELLENT stay!
"Romantic anniversary getaway"
My wife and I traveled here for 5 days to celebrate our 10th anniversary 11/28-12/2/16. The transfer from the airport set up by the resort was smooth. Upon arrival, we were greeted with champagne. Check-in with Manuel was easy. We had chosen an infinity pool suite (after much deliberation). Although the room (811) was nice, the view left much to be desired. We asked Manuel about switching to a different location. He was very nice about it and tried to accommodate us, but the other infinity pool rooms were taken. In the end, we stayed in 811 one night and then upgraded to the Palafitos area of the resort - the exclusive overwater bungalows. To put it mildly, our stay in the Palafitos is the closest we'll ever come to actual royalty. Everyone was eager to help us and was so friendly. Most of the time when our butler asked what else he could do to help, I honestly couldn't figure out what else we could possibly need! Allan, Rocio and Ivan served as our butlers and all were great. You can't walk 5 steps without a smile and an "hola!" from a staff member who truly takes pride in their work. The cabana beds on the beach were amazing. From the bungalows, you could literally walk through the water to get to the beach. The water is shallow so you can easily carry a few items with you and they'll stay dry. Daisy, who runs the beach at the Palafitos, could not have been any sweeter. Every time you say thank you to her, she says "It's a pleasure." She puts out your towels for you, moves the umbrella so the sun isn't in your eyes and brings lunch if opting for the picnic. The service was incredible. Giovanni was the beach bartender and he makes a mean chocolate monkey. My only suggestion for the beach situation is to create a non-smoking section. One of the days we were sat next to a couple who were smoking cigarettes, and it really bothered us but there wasn't anything we could do. Before booking the trip, we were concerned about the seaweed problem mentioned in some of the reviews. While there was a whole lot of seaweed, there were a ton of employees whose sole job was to remove seaweed. It wasn't an issue at all. However, there were a handful of times when there was a sudden sulfur smell outside around the resort, but it was nothing that took away from the whole experience. The food was amazing. We had breakfast at the Palafitos restaurant once we moved there. Fernando was a superb waiter. The one breakfast we had at Pepitos was just okay (buffet style). Lunch at Palafitos was also great. We had a picnic lunch on the beach twice as well (you have to order that in the morning) and we were impressed. Lunch at Mio was pretty good, but not out of this world. Dinners were all wonderful. We ate at the Mexican restaurant, Palafitos, and Lima Lemon. We also had a candlelit dinner on our terrace (included if you stay at Palafitos). For that one you have to choose a fixed menu with several courses and it was all delicious. We honestly don't have any complaints with the food we had. We had a couples massage in the Palafitos spa (which is separate from the main resort's spa). Great experience there, very relaxing! Only wish we had done the 80 minutes instead of the 50! If we had any complaints about the trip at all, it would be that in the Palafitos area, socializing is not really encouraged or easily achieved. We would have loved an organized happy hour or something to encourage guests to congregate at a bar at the same time. However, there isn't really a bar to even do this. On Palafitos, there is no bar other than the small one at the beach (which you wouldn't sit at anyway). And in the main resort, there are 2 swim up bars, but if you're not in the pool, this is not really conducive to making friends. There is also one more nightlife bar (Rick's) which we tried to go to one night. If you're a 55-year-old woman who loves what looked like the Macarena, then this is the bar for you. For us, it was not. We basically didn't talk to any other guests the whole time we were there. We did go to the fire show one of the nights (held in the main part of the resort as all the entertainment is). The show was very good but still no socializing. The night there was live music, we arrived late but all the guests in attendance were sitting in chairs and watching, even though the music was sort of like wedding type dance music that you'd expect people would be up and dancing to. And most of the guests were much older than us (we are mid-30s). Overall, we would stay here again assuming we were willing to spend the money on the Palafitos. Great experience! Used a travel agent for anyone who is looking - Aimee Nelson at My Island Getaways. She was great to work with.
"First trip, not last"
Finally doing a VERY long overdue review of Maroma from our July trip earlier this year. It was our first visit as Exotic members (Sapphire) and our first trip to this resort and it was amazing! We aren’t very high maintenance types and weren’t sure we needed or would appreciate the “butler” services. Boy, were we wrong! Carlos and Penny were amazing from day 1. They thought of things we MIGHT want and suggested them. So, we ended up with a fruit plate and I had my hot tea each morning, right after woke up. It was great to sit on our patio in our swim up and enjoy that before we went to breakfast. Previously we had paid for private transport to HBR, so nice to have that included in this stay. We had an amazing swim up room near the end of a block and with a great ocean view. Still close enough for easy walk down the lazy river to the swim up bar when needed, where Rene and Victor were always ready with a greeting and a smile, remembering our favorite drinks after just the first few days. When we didn’t make it from our lounges on our patio Diego would magically appear with whatever we needed! We did hit all the restaurants through the week. Enjoyed them all. Usually breakfast at Sabores, where Eroin and Andres took great care of us. Lunch was back at Papitos, or at Mio with Bernardo as our server. We also had a good meal at Kiyoko one night, where we were well taken care of by Fernando and another evening at Sabores with Sergio. Our two favorite dinners had to be the Caribbean Grill (Sergio again) where we loved the Jamaican jerk chicken patties, ox tail, crispy pork rinds and fish and chips. And the reservations only Limo Lemon (which I will try to do twice on our next visit ) was definitely our #1. HUGE portions, several courses offered. Menu well explained and presented by our server, Ferneli. We had the shells, sea bass, prawn, grilled beef skewers and beef tenderloin. We also attended the member dinner which started with the mariachi catamaran cruise. That was a lot of fun! Dinner would have been better if the AC had been working at Papitos that night. Not sure what was up with that. Also, had our candlelight beach dinner. Unfortunately, I don’t remember the name of our waiter, but he was great and dinner excellent! One suggestion I would make for food is to have more casual lunch options. Burgers, less fancy food for lunch in general. But as a VERY picky eater, overall I was very pleased with the food and never had a problem finding options I was pleased with on the menus. The resort itself is gorgeous; as everyone always points out, the beach is just unreal. I am not sure I’ve ever seen sand like that before, and I have been to Seven Mile Beach in Negril, Jamaica. LOVED our room and its location. Close enough to things for convenience, far enough for some quiet. The room was equipped with everything we could want; toiletries, hair dryer, plenty of towels, etc. Housekeeping seemed to appear each day in a timely fashion, practically unnoticed. During our stay, at least, this was not a night life resort, which was fine with us. We did go to Rick’s one night for a cover band. We had a good time, good drinks, decent band. It was fairly crowded and ended early. Fine with us, but that’s us. If you are looking for more party atmosphere, this may not be your spot. And once again, our butlers Carlos and Penny were incredible. They split the day between them and each time one walked by (we were usually laying on our patio by the lazy river) asked if we needed anything. Our ice bucket was refilled twice each day. Our mini fridge had everything we wanted, ALWAYS. They made our dinner reservations and came by to remind us what day of the week it was so we knew what we had going on. Hey, we were on vacation, lost track of the days! Not sure there is anything that can be done about it, but I did find that the screaming children on the beach from the next-door excursion area annoying. And I heard that the weird humpy island off the beach is being taken out' It would improve the view certainly. Overall though, we thoroughly enjoyed it and have already booked our next trip for October of 2017 for our 35th anniversary. We had already booked Hidden Beach for next February for our… 5th trip there. We even upgraded our Sapphire Exotic member to a Ruby, adding a lot more weeks. So, we’ll be seeing more of Karisma resorts for years to come!
