"Lovely mini break in this tranquil spot"
We've just spent two nights at El Rodat. Our first night was in one of the garden rooms which unfortunately smelt damp. It was a beautiful room but there is obviously a problem with humidity. We complained at the reception and they could not have been more helpful and polite. They moved us to another room which was perfect. We had the best nights sleep in years. I would wholeheartedly recommend this hotel and would definitely re visit. The staff are great.
"Mrs martin "
Just would like to say thank you so much to the hotel staff for taking care of me and my sister Mrs swan . We arrived on Sunday the 4th of September. Which was so upsetting to see what was going with the bad fire .all over the javea and other areas close by. The staff at el rodat was just amazing so helpful and keeped us updated .. .. wish you all the best
"Tired, expensive and overrated."
We arrived at El Rodat at about 02.30, in serious need of something to eat and drink. Like most hotels of this class, El Rodat boasts a full 24 hour room service menu. We ordered two toasted sandwiches. Oh how I wish we hadn't. Toasted cardboard, with tasteless cheese and packet ham. Disgusting. Fortunately the very good Rioja made it just about palatable. The decor in this hotel is past its best and needs some serious attention. The standard of furniture in the rooms and on the terraces, both outside the rooms and around the pool, is very poor, cheap, basic and uncomfortable. We stayed for three nights, had breakfast on the first morning, a Friday, arrived in the restaurant at 10, breakfast served till 10.30. Two very stressed staff on duty, who were clearly struggling to keep it all together. The food was dismal. From the look of things, the eggs had been there since Thursday. The stringy bacon was cold and covered in fat. The buffet was almost non existent, and I could have made toast faster with a box of matches. All this for 18 euros each. To cap it all, the whole room is covered by cctv, and the management watch your every move, very spooky and so unnecessary. Needless to say we didn't eat or drink in the hotel at all for the rest of the stay. With the exception of the guy on duty at the night time reception, the staff on the reception desk were disinterested, unwelcoming and in the case of the day manger I had cause to speak to, downright rude and arrogant. This was also reflected in the staff around the hotel. Having stayed at the Mandarin Oriental in Marrakech, in May, where every member of staff, from the managers to gardeners speaks and offers you a greeting, the staff at El Rodat are in a league of their own for lack of interest and enthusiasm. We were visiting Spanish friends in Javea, who had stayed at El Rodat about 10 years ago and said it was a great place, and renowned for its impeccable food, service and standards of its rooms. They had revisited last year and were sorely disappointed. If we had been able to find alternative accommodation we would have left. We stayed in a Garden Suite. One plus was that the bed was very comfortable, that was cheapened by the fact that you could hear everything going on next door, mown below and above you. Wouldn't stay the again if you paid me.
We first visited this hotel around 15 years ago. We booked a junior suite on bed and breakfast terms. On arrival we received a complimentary bottle of cava in our room. The decor was delightful, traditional Spanish yellow sofa and chairs gauze curtains draped around the bed. In August 2016 we booked a stay of 6 nights for the same standard of room. On arrival we received one small bottle of complimentary water. The room was immaculate, the drapes round the bed were gone the sofa and chair were refurbished in grey Drayton fabric with no cushions. The suites terrace furniture was the same as before but only two tired cushions were provided for the 3 chairs. The pool area was greatly improved however the sun beds were basic and uncomfortable and plastic table was badly cracked and needed to be dis guarded. Day two we went at 2 pm to the hotel cafe for a light lunch, to be told that as we hadn't reserved a table we would have to wait till 3pm. We sat down in the lounge and ordered A bottle of rosado wine, to be then told there was no rose wine in the hotel as the delivery had not come! We left. That evening we went to the hotel bar for a drink, ordered a glass of cava each and the waitress poured us half a glass and took the bottle away, she was clearly not aware how to pour a correct glass of cava. Whilst staff in the restaurant were very charming, especially juanjo and Carlos, reception staff were frosty and disenchanted. The cleaning staff were very efficient and friendly. For the cost of the room I do not think one complementary bottle of water for our whole stay was acceptable. The hotel have changed their marketing policy from couples to families with small children. The suites were designed as romantic rooms but are now being used as family rooms. The sound proofing is not adequate for stomping children. With regret we will not be staying again, it was not value for money.
"Week in Javea"
We booked 2 junior suits for a family of 5, the suits were the same, and one of the sofas converted into a bed. I'm told the sofa bed was comfortable but didn't sleep on it myself. The room has twin beds which are put together, very comfortable. The rooms were comfortable and we'll set out. The pictures on the hotel site show some netting / curtains round the bed area that is not there. The maid was there everyday, and the room was clean, but the toiletries were not always replenished. One strange thing was one free bottle of water on arrival, but we were there for a week and would normally expect a bottle per day, I did ask and was told it's the managements policy. So booking in and out every day will get you water....... The pool is OK with a great life guard. Breakfast was very good with impeccable service, no more to say here. For the best view of Javea ask for a room high up and on the right hand side of the hotel.
