"Oh the wave"
I absolutely love this hotel, it's Spanish architecture, and lovely gardens! Everyone was so nice to us. The suite had so much room, we could've had a large party! I really liked having a back door to our own private lawn with chairs and small table but someone forgot to pick up after their large dog so we stayed inside. The bathroom was so big, you could get lost in it since it had 2 ways to enter. Each room had a complimentary bottle of wine which added a nice touch! We had a connecting room for our boys, and although that room was drastically smaller than our suite, it was perfect for two people. The pool was right outside our window and people swimming in it but we weren't aware until we looked out the window, it was so quiet, except for the low hum of music which sets the tone for relaxation. I can hardly wait to return, it's not close to the caves but it's worth a visit for the amenities and ambiance.
"Excellent Service and Beautiful Grounds"
I had a wonderful experience here with Sol and Andy! The employees went above and beyond to provide excellent service, and I left with a great first impression. The hotel is beautiful and the lands are lush. There's a bar in the back with an outdoor firepit and cozy seating area. Funnily enough, I didn't plan to go to this hotel originally...my taxi dropped me off at the wrong place! When I realized what happened, everyone at the hotel was kind and helpful, trying to find a solution and ultimately calling the taxi service to come back and get me. As I waited, I saw them continue to provide attentive and gracious service to guests. Although my first visit here was brief (I was eventually rescued!), I hope to be back soon and would highly recommend staying at Estancia!
Our spa experience here was wonderful. We had massages, facial, and mini manicures. Michelle, the massage therapist did a great job with the deep tissue massage. Juliette, at the desk, was extremely helpful in helping us determine what services to choose. She patiently answered all of our questions, showed us around and explained how their facility worked. The atmosphere was great - relaxing and calm.
"Deserving of a 5 Star Review Despite Some Issues"
We were a little unsure about this hotel, but we had a very nice stay here. Granted, we didn't spend much time at the resort - during the day we did touristy things in and around SD or La Jolla. Speaking of, the resort actually is in a great location - convenient for going to the city and also going further north (Carlsbad, Del Mar) and for exploring the beach. It is not right on the beach, but a quick drive to a great one. We had an Estate Suite, and the rooms were nice and seemed fairly updated, as are the grounds. Actually the grounds are probably one of the best things about the hotel - just really beautiful and you feel like you are on vacation! This is definitely a hotel that belongs in a luxury category. They provided nice Frette towels in the bathrooms, and had nice bath products (Fresh). I also liked that there were a couple of restaurant choices as well as a take-out cafe with quick items. I did have a couple of gripes - the pullout sofa bed was really uncomfortable - the kind of springs that stick you in the back and sags in the middle. I felt pretty bad for making my kids sleep on it. Secondly, housekeeping was pretty stingy about the bath products - unnecessarily so. We stayed for 5 nights and at no point were we given new shampoos, lotion, etc. The actually give you a face wash, which is a nice bonus, but honestly by day 4 our hand soaps were little slivers, and they still didn't provide new ones! Seems like a weird thing to be stingy about. Finally, the pool was closed during our stay - we didn't complain about it as we didn't have time to use it, or it was too cold to be in the pool, but the emails we received about the renovation in advance indicated the work would be finished before our arrival. So if we had wanted to go to the pool it would have been very disappointing for our kids. Honestly, if we had known there wouldn't be a pool I might have cancelled our stay since it was one of the criteria in selecting a hotel. Better communication on this issue should have been a priority for the hotel. Despite all this, we had a really nice stay and wouldn't hesitate to stay again in the future.
Beautiful place, good collection of succulent plants, relaxing trails to walk around , walkable to black beach, excellent service ,free hi speed wifii. They also have a small cafe where you can buy bagels and snacks. Restaurant is however expensive Will stay again.
