"Only a 2 star hotel...NOT a 4 star!"
I wished I would've read more of the reviews on this hotel before making reservations. We've decided after our stay at this "4 star hotel" in New York that we wouldn't stay at another of Eurostar hotel. The size of the room was small as this is the norm for NYC & so it was expected...not a big deal. (This was our 4th visit to NYC). The attendant gave us a handicap room when we did not ask for one & we'd pre-booked the hotel in advance so we believe it wasn't the "last available room". The room smelled of smoke. It was very, very warn out. The bathroom floor corner grout was moldy, the shower had no soap dish/holder so we had to put our bar of soap on the floor. There was no holder for our hand towel. The sink drain had 2 syringed needles that were moldy which must've been there some time. The guest/public bathroom was FILTHY, no soap or towel to wash your hands & one of the two toilets was plugged. My husband said the breakfast was ok. When we told the front desk the guy handed us his personal card & said next time you come we'll give you the penthouse! (We laughed & joked like this would ever happen..either he wouldn't be working there or deny he said it or the penthouse would be booked). I told the front desk no way would I ever stay at a Eurostar again & he said "here's a $40.00 credit". SHAME ON Eurostars. I'd give this hotel a 2 star rating if that.
"Good Price Shabby Rooms"
Only in town for 2 days and the original hotel couldn't extend us the 2nd day. This was 2 blocks away and reasonably priced. The person at the desk when we checked in was extremely helpful and very kind. A later encounter with another young man - not so nice. The room was large but was very dated and needed a good cleaning. The bed was comfortable and the linen was clean although the pillow cases scratched my face!! The television froze on every other channel. Glad it was only for 1 of the 2 nights and that we were out and about most of the day and evening.
"This place is a dump"
Photos are misleading. Hotel is drab and not clean. Staff is clueless. My tv didn't work. Bed was like sleeping on a slab of rock. Pillows are stuffed with synthetic material. The room was downright depressing. I left for the airport this morning three hours earlier than I had to because frankly the airline lounge is a nicer place to spend my time in Run don't walk away from this place
"Great location but poor staff"
We went as our first stop in our honeymoon and to be honest it was not our first choice! The hotel is a 5 min walk from Times Square and Empire State Building. The breakfast and staff were the disappointment because for a 4 star hotel we expected more! Also there were a confusion with the reservation because they sent an email to the travel agency saying they would not charge me anything and they still charged 140usd. Still pending to resolve this problem.
"Great for the price I paid!"
The room was refrigerated to 65 degrees and no amount of tinkering with the controls would turn off the A/C. The 3rd floor is near the cafe and at an unbearably early hour there was a lot of hall noise. Otherwise, the room was comfortable and well appointed on the inside. The hall ways were shabby and need a refurb. For the money (and maybe I got a great deal mid-week end of August) it was great, as was the location.
