"WOW! WOW! WOW!"
From the moment I spoke to Sandra on the phone I knew this would be a winner. She was so friendly yet very professional. I said I was celebrating a Birthday and visiting our daughter so I booked a night for us including a three course dinner and one night for my daughter and her boyfriend to celebrate her new job. Sandra said "In that case I will upgrade you to a sea view". When I got there and walked into the Royal Suite-it was WOW factor with a fabulous balcony overlooking Dublin Bay-Spectacular! A box of chocolates and a Birthday card from Mark the Manager-lovely gesture. Hannah gave us a wonderful welcome. Breakfast was delicious and a lovely buffet of fruit, cereals, juice and herbal teas. Dinner in PJ's restaurant was superb and very big portions. We had the chicken wings and Buffalo Mozzarella salad to start then Duck and Fish - Fabulous! Chips - the best we have ever had. Wonderful dessert with Happy Birthday on it - delicious wine. We were well informed by Hannah on the best sites to visit together with a map. Really blessed with beautiful weather. Killiney Hill is a must and the views are spectacular. Maureen on reception was also very friendly and Jordan checked us out. Mark, you have wonderful staff and a Five Star Hotel. Thanks to all of you for a great stay. Only sorry I didn't get to say a personal thanks to Sandra. We will be back for sure. Mary and Joseph.
"Our Weekend Away"
I wonder is it just me that looks forward to opening the door of a hotel room that you have never stayed in before to see what's lurking on the other side, People will often say that all hotels are the same but I tend to disagree.. I have stayed in some beautiful hotels and some lets say "horrors" in the past. With Fitzpatrick Castle I found much to my delight that it wasn't a "horror hotel", On arrival we we're greeted by a man at check in who my own opinion needs to evaluate his career choices he was quite unfriendly and looked rather bored to be there and after driving on the motorway from Cork to Dublin i'd rather had enough of boredom. anyways when we got to the room I must admit I was quite pleasantly surprised a lovely spacious room awaited us with a couch to relax along with a bowl of fresh fruit which was devoured within a few minutes of arriving.. As my wife has a tendency to cocoon herself in the duvets and leave me perished I was delighted to see a king size bed with an even bigger duvet and it was a lovely comfy bed too! The hotel is in a lovely location overlooking Killiney bay and if you want to do a small bit of celebrity hunting Enya's castle is located only 5 minutes away from the hotel! As the father of a small child the swimming pool offers that hour or so of entertainment and as mentioned previous after a 3 hour car journey it was certainly a welcome relief. The pool and amenities are well kept and clean and the pool is large enough to accommodate children and adults alike. One major downfall I found was the buffet breakfast if you like your bacon to break your teeth then you are in luck, €15 per person for a barely lukewarm breakfast I wouldn't recommend although the staff were nice eating cold beans just tipped me over the edge. The next day we decided to hit The Corner Note cafe in Dalkey for breakfast instead which I couldn't recommend high enough. Thankfully dinner in the evening more than made up for the breakfast the day before I ordered the homemade burger and I must admit it had me licking my lips for more along with the chips that came with it and was very reasonable. Would I stay here again absolutely the hotel was nice and clean staff were lovely "apart from grumpy mcgrumpface" at the desk and it is very close to all the local amenities ie. imaginosity & dundrum town centre etc.. I gave this hotel 5 stars as I did enjoy my stay and would have no problems recommending this hotel to family or friends!
"Very bad and unfriendly lounge service"
A group of friends decided to visit lounge here for late lunch, we sat for 20 mins at a dirty table in a not busy lounge area before we were acknowledged, supervisor had to tell a staff member to stop clearing a dirty table with no guests at it and instead clear the table with guests waiting at ! Very basic customer service .she ignored us while she tidied table then walked away.w without even hello ! McDonald's staff are friendlier than the service staff on sat afternoon 19th Nov.service took forever ,soup nice service zero stars never mind four star ! The lounge manager really needs to ask staff to have basic manners at least
"Huge dear hotel ideal for Americans"
We stayed for one night and it was a dear but average experience. The fancy castle might be idyllic to American tourists but the real castle feel stops when your eyes see the extension to the building. It is not a real castle with a 'royal feel to it' any more. The bathroom was clean and nice, the bed comfortable and the staff mostly nice. Due to its high frequency of visitors to the lobby/bar area, the exclusive feeling lacks. The weird carpet pattern makes one dizzy. The pool looks good, the restaurant is overpriced and serves only average quality food. Please improve.
"Historic and comfortable place to stay"
The staff here was really helpful as far as giving us advice about taking the trains into Dublin and local sights to see. Room was comfortable but obviously it was a (much) older hotel. Was a little challenging crossing the foyer and dining area to get to the door behind the piano area to get to the actual hotel rooms. It is about a 25 minute walk downhill to get to local stores and pubs. About a 15 minute walk up the hill to get to a small park that takes you to an incredible view of the coastline. Definitely worth the hike. We had one meal in 'The Dungeon' which was fine but service was a little slow (possibly due to a wedding reception that had just cleared out).
