The service and amenities at this property are exactly what you'd expect at a Four Seasons or comparable hotel, but the property itself is absolutely beyond comparison. The hotel occupies its own "mini rice valley", and is spread out like a campus throughout it. The villas are spread apart and all isolated in privacy with the jungle surrounding them. The villas themselves are large pristine and like an oasis in the jungle; guests descend down a stone spiral staircase to reach them. The crown jewel of this resort is the main building, which houses the lobby, restaurant, bar and spa, and rises above the property in a majestic way. Honestly, words don't do justice to the aesthetics of this hotel; so unique! That said, you really do feel as if you're immersed in the jungle, so with that: there are many insects around (the hotel provided bug spray), rain can pop up at any minute, and we had a VERY loud cricket or tree frog hanging somewhere around our villa that would do it's thing at all hours of the night. It's the kind of thing where you definitely don't want to leave the door to your villa opened for very long, especially at night. All in all, highly recommend this place. Luxury hotels can be found in any city, but I am not quite sure that this particular one has a match anywhere in the world.
"Four Seasons Hotel, Sayan near Ubud, Bali."
We stopped over for lunch. Superb and beautiful property, almost "carved out" of the jungle. All very green and lush. Obviously beautifully maintained. Hotel is on several levels running down to just above the river. Excellent lunch poolside, served by very efficient and well trained staff. Two concerns: quite a lot of mosquitoes, which we hadn't experienced in anything like the quantity elsewhere in Bali during our trip (staying at The Oberoi there, where mosquitoes hardly noticeable) Has to be said lots of spray cans of insecticide available, but off-putting nevertheless. Also, to go almost anywhere around the hotel, you really need to travel by the hotel buggy, unless you are very fit and like to walk up (and down!) hills! It's a well spread out and very hilly property! A memorable short visit though, and certainly to be recommended, although price wise it's at the top of the scale!
"Lovely hotel with superb service "
The hotel is lovely. Everything from the restaurant to the gift shop was great. My only complaint was that the air conditioning didn't work well. The rice paddies around the hotel gave the hotels a real Indonesian feel.
"Fantastic Four Seasons Sayan, near Ubud, Bali, Indonesia"
My husband and I spent September 26 to October 2, 2016 at the Four Seasons Sayan in Bali. (Ubud) The experience was spectacular! Upon arriving at the hotel, we were ceremoniously greeted by staff members. Amazingly, the top level of the main building is an incredible jewel: a shimmering pond filled with lofty vibrant lotus flowers and colorful serene floating lily pads. Checking in was quietly and quickly accomplished, and then we were treated to an enchanting Balinese dance. A golf cart whisked us to our private villa. We were enthralled by the ornamental lily pond, the lovely outdoor sitting room, the elegantly regal bedroom, and the spa-like bath and huge closet area. Opening the massive sliding doors revealed a sun-spangled private pool, with a lovely eating area and lounger nestled close by. A sea of tropical plantings enclosed the garden granting us complete privacy. Every detail was perfect from the fresh tropical fruit to the magnificent art pieces placed carefully in lighted niches. The hotel and villas were pristinely polished and extremely clean. The grounds were magnificent, and the head gardener kindly gave us a tour of the impressive and meticulously maintained gardens. The grounds were a stained glass landscape with incredible vistas, and charming farm-to-table gardens. The vast grounds verdantly tumbled down to the river and a lovely café was perched at its edge. The restaurants offered a variety of foods from a sumptuous traditional Balinese feast to wonderful seasonal offerings. Our package included breakfast; the fresh fruit bar was fantastic, and the breakfast menu was extensive and variable. Since our villa was so luxurious, we sometimes used room service. The meal was delivered by golf cart, set up with a flourish, including fresh flowers, and extremely tasty. The hotel staff was remarkable: efficient, caring, charming, helpful and extremely gracious. Scheduling tours and obtaining information was a delight. We felt confident in the drivers, tour guides and itineraries suggested by the hotel staff, and every tour we took was informative and enjoyable. Each guide was fluent in English and extremely accommodating. Additionally, local activities and tours were offered by the hotel. I opted to take a Batik class given by a local artisan. It was an extraordinary experience, and I happily returned home with a glorious hand-painted batik. We also took a Sayan village tour, which included a tour of a Balinese home, which was fascinating. One evening we attended a relaxation/meditation class at a Bale on the grounds. One can even go to a local market, purchase food, create and cook a meal, and enjoy the fruits of your labor. Staff members went out of their way to be helpful and each one always greeted us by name. While we were visiting a crowded Ubud market, some distance away from the hotel, a staff member called us by name from her motor scooter. Amazing! Often a manager would inquire about our experiences and some would stop and chat. It was my birthday while we were there and someone had discovered, through these chats, that I am enchanted by butterflies. On my birthday the server delivered an exquisite dessert: a mousse with an extravagantly created butterfly sculpted in colorful chocolates. Upon returning to the villa, I discovered that the bed had become an artists’ canvas, as an intricate display had been created from rose petals and palm leaves wishing me a Happy Birthday, complete with butterflies. Our stay at the Four Seasons Sayan has become a most treasured memory of a truly enchanting vacation. Thank you to Four Seasons Sayan!
"Welcome to heaven on earth"
Ok so our Bali trip was a while ago, but I had to review this piece of paradise. This is a place that is in the mountains and in my opinions best for couples or solo travellers. There is a small but beautiful infinity pool overlooking the lush green scenery and river. If you’re looking for a peaceful experience this is the place for you. The only Con would be the food! It was fantastic but way overpriced. The hotel knows that you’re a bit far from the town and they took advantage of that and made their menu unreasonably overpriced. I wish they valued their loyal customers more and made it more reasonable since the rooms are already pricey. I did not mind that there was no free wifi as I was there to disconnect, but the same could go for it. We did a tour of the rice fields, water rafting (don’t miss this one!), private dance lessons, and the hotel organised balinese dancing performances as well as dinners almost every night which were exquisite. The rooms were just wonderful and spacious with a cute little balcony/terrace. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Come here and have the time of your life!
