"The best hotel and service we have ever had"
I have been to Istanbul about 9 times now in total and this was our most memorable and enjoyable stay. The main reason for this was the love and high level of hospitality shown to us by the staff and management at the Four Seasons Sultanahmed. The whole experience before I arrived was truly satisfying Ms Nese Guner the reservations director who helped me with my booking and was kind and helpful throughout the process. When we arrived at the hotel we were warmly greeted and given a traditional Turkish Coffee in the courtyard. Our luggage was delivered to our suite. The suite itself was extremely spacious and very luxurious. We had a large living area and bedroom with a balcony overlooking the courtyard and a large bathroom with steam shower. We had designer toiletries and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. breakfast in the courtyard was beautiful and very tasty as was dinner on the rooftop. A special mention has to be made on Mr Yucel the hotel manager. He came and introduced himself at breakfast the first morning and showed a keen interest in our holiday and wanted to make sure that everything was 100%. He invited us to go and see the Four Seasons at the Bospherous and when we did go there we didn't notice him but he saw us and rushed over to greet us warmly and again spend time to talk to us and make us feel special. This hotel and its staff are truly amazing. They make sure that every tiny detail is at its best and make you feel like royalty. From now on this is the only place I will stay when I go to Istanbul. I was so impressed I am taking my mother there next month.
"Great choice if you are visiting Istanbul as a tourist"
Location of this hotel is perfect if you are visiting Istanbul as a tourist. It is right next to the major tourist attractions, the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia and Grand Bazar. It is a bit far from the business district and the areas where most popular restaurants are located. As opposed to Four Seasons Boshporus, it is much smaller boutique style hotel providing more intimate feeling - an oasis of tranquility next to the busy tourist destinations. The rooms are spacious, beds are comfortable and staff is very accommodating. Bathrooms are adequate and the shower room has a high pressure rain shower. There is a roof terrace with great views with a bar and a restaurant. The menu is not so impressive and is a bit touristy. The wines by the glass are local and expensive, but are not very drinkable. It would be nice to have some imported wines by the glass as well. It is natural, that the hotel is trying to promote local wines, but sadly it is not what the country should be proud of and international traveller would prefer to have much more interesting wine list that you would expect at the Four Seasons Hotel. The menu is not so impressive as well. I would be inclined to recommend having dinner outside of the hotel. The hotel web site needs a bit of updating. The restaurant recommended by the concierge - Changa is actually closed. Breakfast is served a la carte in a wonderful garden and is actually quite good.
"Extremely friendly with kids"
Other than all the good things about location and service, they are extremely friendly with kids, they prepared drawing pencils, a T-shirt with turkish flag, and a traditional toy for my son. He was so thrilled. Everything is perfect.
Having visited Istanbul before I was keen this time to stay in the old city, I therefore booked a deal with British Airways staying at what they claimed to be an Ottoman house converted to a 4* hotel – having checked into the 4* hotel it transpired to be nothing more than a hostel – one night and I had to check out -does that sound too snotty'- ok it’s not that I have an issue with staying in a hostel, I do have an issue however when I am psychologically expecting a certain standard and find something considerable less – had I expected a hostel I would probably have been very content , fortunately the lure of the Four Seasons was not far away – this was entering another world, a world of luxury and indulgence – beautiful room, fabulous roof top dining terrace, exquisite service and a stunning setting – ok I liked it. The most fabulous part - it was a sanctuary from the outside world, you moved from the constant battles with the carpet sellers, the fake bags and the ceramics to a calm that was just incredible. Ok the price came with it but it really was worth every penny. If you want to see the sights of Istanbul, you really need to be in the old city and it will be difficult to find anywhere to match this.
