"More a hilton than a Four Seasons"
Rooms are looking sad, horrible lighting. Apparently i even got a renovated room, dont want to see the old ones..... Service slow, nobody picked up for room service, took a while to be called back Ordered a tea, was served like in a cantine...
"Graceful hotel with a superb staff"
With 3 adults in our group, we booked a Junior Suite and could not have been happier. Others had written about the hotel showing its age; we did not find that to be the case. True, our suite did not have the ubiquitous tub standing in the middle of the bedroom that seemed to be de rigeur at some of the newer hotels, but we found the understated yet classic décor to be very pleasing and welcoming to come back to at the end of each day. The suite provided more than enough space for all 3 of us, with a king bed in the bedroom and a double bed in the sitting room, and still plenty of room left for us to sit and visit; the bright and spacious bathroom with its separate shower and bathtub was very inviting; bed and bath linens and amenities were plush. The location is also very central, close to Nanjing West Rd. with plenty of shops and small restaurants within walking distance. The Shanghai Hongqiao Rail Station for our train to Beijing is an easy drive 15-20 minutes away (without traffic). The breakfast buffet had plenty of tasty Western and Asian choices, along with a smoothies station and a nice rotating variety of fresh fruits each day. But perhaps all of this was to be expected at a 5-star hotel. What impressed us the most was the staff: Uniformly professional, capable, helpful, and pro-active. The staff at the front desk was always ready with a smile and a solution, no matter what our questions or requests were. The concierge desk was truly focused on the guests: From the chief concierge (Mr. Bin Yi) to his staff members, everyone was more than helpful with booking our transfers, dinners, etc.; each request was followed up with a written confirmation sent to our room; whenever we went out, they made sure we had written directions in Chinese to give to the drivers. At breakfast or dinner (at their Chinese restaurant Si Ji Xuan), the staff was more than happy to help us decide and even modify some of the dishes to our taste! From the moment we stepped out of our car upon arrival to our departure, the staff at the Four Seasons was there, ready to help, in that very gracious manner where just the right balance of being present without being overbearing was achieved! We had the occasion to stay at another hotel for the second segment of our stay in Shanghai and were able to appreciate what a huge difference the superb staff and service at the Four Seasons in Puxi had made on our first-time visit to this intoxicating city!

"Great hotel near Nanjing West Street"
During my Dec 2016 trip, I stayed in 2 different hotels in Shanghai. Upon arrival, I stayed the first night in Grand Hyatt at Jinmao Tower in Pudong, my regular hotel whenever I am in Shanghai as it is near my office. Then I went to Hangzhou and when I came back to Shanghai again, I decided to stay at the Four Seasons Hotel in Puxi for a change. The Four Seasons at Weihai road in Puxi is a very old hotel, but conveniently located near Nanjing West Steet. The room here is small but very clean and in a classical design. Very different from the huge modern rooms that I have stayed at the Four Seasons in HK and in Guangzhou. The rooms here are pretty basic by comparison but is still comfortable and adequate nonetheless. It is also equipped with L'occitane toiletaries like the other Four Seasons. Rooms rates were cheaper than the Grand Hyatt. I had room service for dinner. Although not on the Room service menu, they were able to serve me the hairy crab from their Chinese restaurant. I ordered the salted fish and chicken cube fried rice as well. The food was excellent. The fried rice was so fragrant and portion was huge. It can easily feed two. I finished half of it only. The hairy crab came with the Yangcheng Lake authentication and had so much roe! Yum! A very satisfying meal. Breakfast was included in my room rate. The selection was good with a decent selection of local and international fare. I had bought live hairy crabs to bring home. The hotel conceirge was great. They sent me ice packs & tapes to help me pack my crabs. The service provided by the Four Seasons Hotel was truely excellent. I enjoyed my stay.
