Stayed for just one night at this hotel. The room had an old worn out feel. The wifi was extremely weak and speed was slow so i tried the lan and it just didnt connect. Called a couple of time to complain but there was no improvement. The rooms were clean and so was the bathroom. Breakfast had a good variety of options to choose from. Since this was my first trip to China i was worried about language and my friends who have been to China had many stories about their difficulties especially at hotels in bigger cities like Beijing and Shanghai. In that context i was pleasantly surprised to hear the staff speak reasonable good English. Have stayed at better hotels in other places for a similar pricing.
Not suitable for visitors from western country, nice asian food at breakfast, nice room,
"Not as good revisited in Feb. 2016"
I previously reviewed Furama a year and a half ago and gave it excellent. On my most recent visit in February 2016, the maintenance has noticeably declined. First, the shower have black molds on the grout lines. This just didn't grow in 1 or two nights. The fact that it take weeks if not longer, and it must have been seen by the cleaning staff. The standard is unacceptably low if this is ignored. See picture attached. Secondly, when I lifted up the toilet set cover, I see dark yellow urine stains on the seat. My conclusion is both the toilet and shower walls are not routinely cleaned. I would have taken off more stars, however, all else remains the same and the room rate was very reasonable at $67 U.S, in the East Building. The wifi was worse than my previous stays. Only can pick up weak signal at the door and its totally unusable. I ate dinner at their Chiu-Chow Village restaurant a second time and the food was excellent as before. The style of stir fry is Cantonese. The shrimp wontons were full of shrimp only, no fat and pork added. The seafood casserole was excellent with very fresh ingredients.
"Not a Five Star!"
Having travelled to China several times for business, I find their star-rating to, like many things in China, not really play by international rules. In most cases you can knock a star off for an international equivalent, but in the case of the Furama, it's not so simple. The location is good, and for my own purposes was perfect. It's a vast structure and rooms are equally vast, with the bed, study and bathroom following suite. Furniture and equipment is - with the exception of an amazing space-age toilet - a bit of a throwback to the early 80s, stylistically speaking. The whole decor tries to scream "big" and "expensive" without the sophistication or elegance of what you'd expect from a 5 star... but, it is spacious, clean and reliable, save for appallingly slow wifi one the hotel fills up a bit. The restaurants are worth a mention. The breakfast buffet is a bit hit and miss, and the same venue offers an evening buffet you'd be wise to avoid. There are other places to eat within the building: a Chinese option (haven't tried it), a Korean and a Japanese restaurant. The Korean is quite good, with helpful service and excellent bibimbap and other specialties. The Japanese has, once you get past the completely baffling and labyrinthine iPad only menu (all in Chinese), an elegant decor and every dish I sampled there was delicious, but the onus is on you the patron to communicate clearly, not always easy with a linguistically-challenged, often confused staff. In passing, the language barrier applied across the board when it came to this hotel, not to take away from the universal friendliness, availability and professionalism of their staff. I have few points of comparison within Dalian itself, so I'd say this is a fair alternative for a business stay. I wouldn't choose to stay here for my personal enjoyment, but then again, Dalian would not be my dream destination for leisure, especially in such a rich and diverse country.
"Two nights Business Trip"
Very good Hotel centrally located in the city. Good value for money. Very comfortable and quiet with an excellent choice of food for breakfast. Staff were friendly and efficient. Would stay there again if I were return to Dalian
