"Great Location w/ Modern Twist "
My second extended visit to the G & V. Very convenient location in old town/city center wedged between the Royal Mile & Victoria St. Modern, comfortable rooms with amenities. Excellent toiletries. First stay had an wonderful view of St. Giles & Arthur's seat. Second stay room was smaller interior facing a courtyard but quiet. Epicurean cocktail bar was Lovely with drinks based on Scottish Colourists. No lobby to speak of but checkin was easy & staff was excellent & friendly. The breakfast (if included) was good but there are also several other cute cafes nearby.
"The ONLY place to stay"
There are many perfectly lovely places to stay in Edinburgh but after staying here a number of times, the G&V has squashed any notion of staying anywhere else. The staff are friendly and attentive without being snooty. They simply want you to enjoy your stay and we did! We stayed on a B&B special rate with dinner the first evening. The dinner choices were restricted on our rate but both my husband and I agreed our choices were delicious. Breakfast includes a continental selection and cooked options. The location is brilliant for shopping and sightseeing. I love the G&V.
"Stylish 5 Star Hotel, Great Decor, Great Staff, Really Enjoyable"
The exterior of the G&V betrays little about how good this hotel actually is. The interior is super stylish and tasteful, and beautiful to see. The staff are helpful, polite, and well trained in what is expected of them. The food was varied, of high quality and super tasty. Rooms and suites each have their own theme going; everything from the up-to-the minute contemporary to olde worldy Georgian. I'm not usually one to wax lyrical about a hotel, especially a modern hotel, but I am smitten by this one.
My wife and I stayed for two nights in February with friends. Had booked standard rooms but they were not ready on arrival - (we were early). We were offered better rooms at an increased cost which were ready - the standard room is more than adequate I am not sure why anyone would feel the need to upgrade. Staff are polite and helpful - the only food we ate here was the breakfast which was extensive and well presented. The bar is good but the service not the quickest. I understand that the requirement to use your room card to get the lift to work is a security measure - but a pain if you have left your card somewhere else. The only criticism I have is that no one seemed able to produce a hot latte and indeed on two occasions it took so long to get a coffee that they were provided free of charge (which we appreciated). The decor is modern and lively without being brash and the rooms are pleasant and functional.
Fantastic Hotel on the Royal Mile really close to the Witchery, the Castle and all the lovely architecture that surrounds that area. Only downside of the hotel I found was breakfast was a bit chaotic, really busy with staff running all over and forgetting to come and see to you once seated, I would advise to get there as early as possible.
