"Very good hotel"
Great location, very central. Beautiful lobby and great bar. Good staff and very efficient at reception. Breakfasts are excellent with a very good choice. Room was a good size although we were given an "accessible room" even though we didn't need one. Pillows were absolutely terrible - the worst ever...full of air and disappeared to nothing once you put your head on them. We had extra ones but even two each wasn't enough.
"Beautiful modern hotel"
Stayed here on a girly weekend, great location on the royal mile. Beautiful modern hotel, very attentive staff. We left our bags early morning and was told we would get a call when our room would be ready, no call! We went back to the hotel at 7pm to get ready for dinner and a maid was in the room making up the beds which was very odd at that time of night' We ate in the restaurant, lovely food but quite expensive, my friends meal was cold so she complained and got another one within minutes and hers was taken off the bill which was nice. We went out that evening returning at 1am to be told the bar was closed (always thought residents were 24 hours') Breakfast was very good but extremely busy as we didn't head down until 10am, one of our orders was wrong but again fixed right away. Check out was 12 which is very good! Overall a lovely stay
"Not a 4 star hotel!"
I'm not sure why this is a 4 or 5 star hotel. There was nothing special about this place and the valet price is an absurd. I stayed for 1 expensive night but choose to move somewhere else the next day. Would not stay here again.
Stayed here twice first time was a let down however they invited us back for my birthday last year and it was amazing! Didn't get a chance to write a review for last year but we stayed in a suite which was newly done out and was amazing! We didn't return this year due to it being a little out of price range due to me going back to University, but we popped into the bar had about 6 amazing cocktails and the most loveliest staff! 10/10 A proper 5* hotel!
"Disappointing for a 5* hotel"
Firstly - there's absolutely nothing wrong with the staff at this hotel ... from the moment I checked in they were courteous, prompt, and helpful ... and the complimentary G&T during check in was a really nice surprise. My room was adequate but with a few issues (loose mosaic tiles in the bathroom, a faulty ceiling light that left the room very gloomy). As I was only there for one night I notified the staff but said there was no need for them to fix them whilst I was in the room ... Breakfast was a real disappointment however. The cold buffet is about as basic as I have ever come across, and the cooked scottish breakfast was ok but very dry to eat (as if the ingredients had been pre cooked and left to warm up). The coffee however ... was excellent! The hotel is very well placed for central Edinburgh, and there are plenty of eateries and bars in Grassmarket just around the corner. My real issue is with the rating. If it was a 4* hotel - I could make allowances for the few flaws ... but not for a 5*
