"Our favorite hotel in manhattan"
The first time we stayed here was in november 2013 when i ran the nyc marathon. It was a great stay comfortable beds, quit, good wifi and the service staff were all great. The location is good near fulton subway stops and easily accessible by air train and A line subway from JFK for international travel. There are many restuarants, grocery stores, shopping and 9/11 memorial within 10 minutes waliking distance. The hotel has an adjoining restuarant, a gym and will store your luggage and parcels between stays. We like Gild Hall so much we stayed again in January 2017 on our way to Ecuador. It was even better than our 2013 stay. Patrick, Max, Robert and John all went out of there way helping us with our luggage, deliveries, reservations, directions and weather forcasts. We look forward to our next stay on the way back from Ecuador late February!
"Gild Hall - Summer of 2016"
So I just came home from a three day trip to Las Vegas last week; stayed at Aria and was pretty disappointed for what is suppose to be a luxury hotel. On the plane back to Canada I was thinking about the hotel and the trip and I realized that I'd been spoiled, this was only the fourth time in over 12 years that I stayed at a non-Thompson hotel. And comparing this stay with my previous vacation, 31 day stay in New York during the summer, just emphasizes how fantastic Gild Hall is. I was going to write about the amazing staff last in this review but they are truly the crown jewel for the hotel, without a doubt the most valuable asset of Gild Hall and it just seems pointless to try and describe the hotel without detailing the individual things that make you feel special and valued. I love the front desk staff at this hotel. They are so competent and cheerful and friendly, qualities that I think are pretty hard to display when they have arguably the toughest job of the hotel. If any visitors are unhappy with anything, regardless of it having to do with the hotel or not, the front desk people are going to bear the brunt of it. At Gild Hall I have had nothing but positive interactions with each one of them. Led by managers Monique and David, I was always treated like a VIP. Max checked me in, what a great person he is. Seems like a jack of all trades, and when you stay at a hotel for 31 days you have the opportunity to see staff with other guests and it’s pretty impressive the level of care that people like Max and Rob treat other guests with. Any of the front desk staff that saw me when I entering or left the hotel during my stay would wave and smile and all remembered my name. Sometimes when I would be in the lobby reading I could hear them interact with other guests and saw that they treated others the same way that I was treated. This is especially important in a boutique hotel and even more evident after my stay in Las Vegas. It is the mark of an excellent hotel and one where Gild really excels. I'm sorry for the people who's names I've forgotten, I can picture you in my memory but your names escape me and it's my fault for doing this review so late but I really do appreciate how welcome you made me feel. The bellman here are fantastic! I saw these guys multiple times each day and they were great and hard working. Really nice to talk to "regular people" when you are way from home so long and these guys are the friends from home that you can talk with about everything from sports to restaurants. Really appreciated my conversations with them and also appreciated how hard they worked to try and help other guests too. I also have great things to stay about the housekeeping staff who were highly curtious and efficient. My room was always cleaned perfectly and I had a few phone calls from a housekeeping supervisor during my stay to ensure that I was happy with the room. And over the last couple stays I’ve run into an engineer named Topeton; man this guy is an asset to the hotel! Super dedicated and outstanding service. Lastly, I was happy to bump into the General Manager Mr. Koster, who went to great lengths to check in with me and ensure that I was enjoying NYC numerous times during my stay. Occasionally I would see him and other staff when they were "off duty" on their way home and they were just as cheerful and genuine as they are back at the hotel. One of the nice things about this hotel is that it doesn't seem to employ a ton of staff members so you do see the same people and it is really nice to have a familiar person during your stay, especially if you travel solo. Gild Hall Hotel is truly excellent in every single category that I value. The hotel itself is very stylish and really well constructed. Gild had just completed a room renovation and all I can say is that the rooms fit the Thompson style perfectly! I wasn’t crazy about the decor of the rooms before the renovation but this one is totally my style. I’ve included some pictures but you can see more on the website. The lobby and public spaces really suit the FIDI district and when you sit down in one of the leather chairs or sofas I am reminded of sitting in a modern, masculine den or lounge. It's a place where you feel very comfortable in relaxing while waiting or contemplating your next move. The atmosphere of the hotel with the music and lighting seems to be perfectly suited at all times. Walk around the hotel a few blocks and you can see why FIDI is one of the more expensive places in Manhattan to live. Such character in the streets and neighborhood, you are literally located at the birthplace of NYC. Tons of restaurants are around, including some pretty hot ones in Gild’s sister property The Beekman Hotel. The South Street Seaport use to be a tourist trap but has evolved into a really cool area with tons of restaurants and pubs and a fantastic new movie theater. I use to run each morning I was at the hotel and I quickly grew attached to the area. I needed to because the new Eataly just opened up a few blocks from the hotel lol. Over to the west, you have the new Westview World Trade Center mall within the Oculus and just across West street the shops at Brookfield Place. And a super fun french food hall called Le District. Dining is one of the things I look forward to when traveling and it's so convenient to be able to eat at so many great spots and be able to walk back to the hotel rather than take a cab. And you don't have to spend a lot of money with entertainment in NYC either; there is 3 different movie theaters, Whole Foods, Barnes and Noble, and most importantly… a Shake Shake all just a few blocks away. Other conveniences of staying at Gild Hall include transportation; there are 4 major subway lines all within three blocks of the hotel. You can get anywhere in the city within 30 minutes by transit. While the location will definitely attract people for business others who value this hotel will be young (and older) travelers, not tourists. People who appreciate the nicer things in life and don't mind spending a little to enjoy good food, wine and clothing. If you value your time and convenience over a dollar, you appreciate quality over quantity, if you prefer to be treated as a neighborhood friend rather than as visiting royalty then you are going to be right at home at Gild Hall. It's run by a hotel group that has a strong concept of what its guests value and has employed staff who believe in that experience. The people who work here truly make Gild the hotel that it is. I have referred several people to stay at Gild and they all have raved about it. The staff here have delivered the same experiences to my friends that made each trip so special to me and I personally cannot put a high enough value on this experience. When a hotel contributes so many positive memories to your experience they earn your loyalty and this is why I will be staying at Gild Hall whenever I am able.
"One of our favourites"
When we go to NYC, we tend to prefer staying in the Financial District, especially over the weekend, as it is well connected with everything we want to do but also much quieter and less chaotic. This is the second time we have stayed at Gild Hall and every time we come back, we are more and more inclined to make this our only hotel when visiting the city. The staff were attentive and took good care of not only us, but also our pet. The front desk staff even offered to pet sit while we were out of the hotel and to walk our doggie if we wanted any assistance. Room service was top notch, and we were taken care of, even when we went downstairs to grab a quick drink and ordered some snacks to go. We got a full tray with water, olive oil, breads, salt and pepper from Felice when we were just expecting some to go containers with the food. Really really love this place
"Great-sized room in an interesting part of Manhattan."
A really lovely-looking hotel. Our room was huge (especially for NYC) and we had plenty of space to sleep and relax - when we weren't sightseeing! The hotel is located in the Financial District which means you're only a few minutes' walk away from the World Trade Center, Brooklyn Bridge, Seaport District and historic Stone Street. And if you want to head north to explore more of New York then Fulton Street subway is very handily placed a few minutes away.
"No hype -- truly wonderful property"
Gild Hall is an absolutely wonderful hotel. Gorgeous, welcoming, large (huge, for NYC) beautiful rooms with excellent amenities and linens. Lovely staff, to a person just great. And the restaurant and bar are lovely and the food truly excellent. At first, we thought the only thing we could think of to complain about was the thermostat not going below 68, but then realized that we had functioning windows -- problem solved! Seriously, this property was wonderful in EVERYway. I can't wait to explore other Thompson properties.
