"Great hotel, but outside city center"
Nice rooms, might be some noise from the roads close to the hotel. Earplugs provided in the room. Frontdesk very helpfull to make taxi reservations when going downtown Amsterdam. Large breakfast buffet, offering whatever you would desire.
"Do not recommend. "
I booked the Golden Tulip for a weekend stay for my boyfriends twenty-first alongside another couple. It was ideally located for Awakenings in the Gashouder, however was a fair distance from the centre. There are trams directly at the door of the hotel or a €25 taxi journey. The hotel was slightly dated, but clean and comfortable. However, bizarrely you are not guaranteed the room you have paid for. The other couple we were with had paid for a double however were given a twin, and were told by the reception staff that despite paying the extra money for the double that if they wanted an improved room from the twin they would have to pay a further fee as there weren't any doubles available. We had booked the hotel months in advance. Despite paying extra for a late checkout, we received several phone calls from different receptionists only several minutes apart demanding in a very rude and blunt manner "that it was time to leave". We explained each time that we had paid extra and each receptionist was apparently unaware. Lack of communication. Finally, check out was chaotic and it took an extraordinary amount of time. I was shocked when one receptionist shouted at my boyfriend across the reception for watching a Snapchat video on his phone, on which the volume wasn't blaring. She made rude and belittling remarks in front of a reception full of guests and he was so embarrassed that he decided to wait outside. We are by no means rowdy or obnoxious and I was appalled that she was so rude. I wouldn't recommend staying here.
"Had a great time in Golden Tulip, Amsterdam."
The room was exactly the same as it looks in the photos. Friendly staff and all of them are cordial. All amenities are provided as promised. Great Wifi speed. Our stay was worth the money. We stayed for 4 days. Hotel offers a grand breakfast buffet and you are spoilt for choices. Tram stop is just outside the hotel which makes it well connected to the central places. Frequency of trams is good and its a convenient and cheap way of travel. All in all, our trip was memorable.
Stayed here over Christmas for 3 nights with family. Stayed on top floor, although facing the front and a bit of a busy road, view was worth it. Reception staff so very helpful, also the staff in breakfast area were friendly and extremely accommodating, big thumbs up to these guys!. Breakfast was awesome, so much choice, catered for everyones tastes. Room was spacious and overall clean but a couple of issues with quality of cleaning especially in my mother/daughters room which had someone's old sock under the bed, and the hoover missed the carpet!. Honestly this is my only gripe. The hotel is a little way from the Dam are but we were well aware of this and happy with being away from the hustle and bustle. The tram system was so easy once you got your head round it, got a 3 day pass which was perfect for our needs. Will return in the summer as a couple travelling and without a doubt will come to the Golden Tulip. Hopefully the alcohol license will be back in place by then!! Fabulous thank you.
Stayed here for two nights and I must say this was a great hotel, it's about 15-20 mins from the city centre but the trams are easy to use. The rooms are massive and very impressive too, we had a room with 4 beds there was still enough space. Check in was great and they looked after our bags when we got there early and after when we had a late flight. Only thing they should do is put the rooms have irons as I wasted time taking an iron....
