"Didn't see Barry Manilow."
Stayed here for four nights and found it very comfortable and safe, despite the terrible view in block C, you get what you pay for but can upgrade to that amazing copacabana veach view if you want. Breakfast had something to suit everyone and can be enjoyed with a view in the tables nearest the windows. Food in the restaurant in the evening was above average and plentiful and not very busy on the evening we used it. Staff were polite and helpful and managed decent English most of the time, special mention to Paolo who gave us a great personal city tour at a very good price. Sometimes it doesn't pay to book tours in advance. Security is good at the hotel, the need for a key card to use the lift is a great, if initially confusing, feature, although we never found the area dangerous or threatening despite walking around at all times of the day and night. Room was clean and well appointed, bed was comfortable and shower was excellent. The crowning glory of this Hotel is the small but perfectly formed rooftop pool area where we spent a lot of time enjoying the amazing view. I would recommend this hotel and would stay again if visiting the city again.
"Great place to stay"
This was a very nice hotel right on the beach. The complementary breakfast was wonderful! It was in an excellent location and I felt very safe during my stay. There were restaurants nearby. The staff were very helpful and accommodating with our schedule.
Although we seemed to be the only American guests staying at the Golden Tulip, the hotel met all our requirements. The staff all spoke English and were very helpful and considerate. We were especially appreciative of the staff member giving out chairs and umbrellas on the beach. He made sure to alert us not to leave any items unattended, recommending that we leave our things with him while we went in the water. Our room was clean and modern. Having a very late flight, which left after midnight, we were able to enjoy the beach and have use of our room for an entire day for a reduced rate. The view of Copacabana from the rooftop terrace is terrific. The breakfast buffet included the best papaya we had in South America. In addition to the buffet, a chef prepared wonderful omelets to order. I would definitely stay here again.
"Large hotel on south of Cocacabana"
This is a large "rabbit warrenish" hotel right opposite the south end of the beach. We stayed in a standard room where the hot water took ages to come through, then the tap controls in the shower were a bit hard to control the temperature. The included breakfast was quit comprehensive and the front staff were helpful. The gym was ordinary with no wipe down tissues but did have towels and a water station. It was quite close, about 9 minutes walk to the General Osario subway station and 20 minutes to Ipanema Beach which we preferred. Security was good and all in all a reasonable stay.
"Good Position front beach"
The Hotel rooms are in the average with the price, I had a business room with the upgrading, nothing special but acceptable. Breakfast is pretty good with not too many choices but there is a lot of fruits available. Personnel is not really customer oriented but anyhow polite.
