"2 Week Chill-out after months of DIY"
We arrived at the Hotel after the restaurants were closed - at booking in the reception staff, who were very welcoming, gave us all the usual info and advised us that there was food in our room as we had missed dinner. We were taken to our room by the bellboy - were amazed at the size of the room, marvelous bathroom facilities and a bed the size of which we have never seen, then the food we had been left would easily have fed a family of 4 or more. The rest of the holiday just got better - we were spoiled with how attentive everyone was, from the reception and bellboys, cleaning staff, waiters, pool attendants[ who made sure we were facing the right way to catch the sun] The complex has 7 restaurants, not all open every night so you certainly couldn't get bored with the cuisine. The main buffet restaurant which we used for breakfast and most dinners provided a wide variety of different themed dinners from Spanish, Italian, Oriental, Fish and Seafood to International and their sweets were to die for. The grounds were also something to appreciate - well kept pathways, lots of local fauna and flora - there was even a lake with Koi Carp, several varieties of Duck and a pair of beautiful Black Swans. This holiday was one where we planned to relax and recharge our DIY Batteries - and this was what we were certainly able to do. If anyone is looking to be thoroughly pampered then my husband and I would definitely recommend Bahia Del Duque, we are seriously considering another visit next year.
I don’t usually write reviews but in this case I felt I had to give a fair description of what we found. This was our first visit to the hotel and there are good and bad things about it. We stayed in Casas Ducales, an exclusive part of the hotel. My problem was with the insects in the room. They were tiny and fast moving and were on the bedroom cupboards and in the bathroom area. I have seen these in other hotels but not in this number, usually just the odd one or two in the bathroom. One afternoon we discovered a vase of flowers had been placed on our sink unit and there was a trail of them leading to and from it. Likewise the hotel sometimes put sandwiches or fruit in our room and this attracted them. We began checking the room daily and removing anything left in there for us. I also think they were over most the resort as I opened my menu one evening in the restaurant and one was crawling around it. Some people wouldn’t be bothered by this but I was terrified some would come back with us in our cases. We visit the Canary Islands annually and have never had this problem before and although I expect them due to the climate feel that if the rooms had been better maintained this problem could be removed. Although the room was a reasonable size, the bathroom area was included in it with no separating door. If you visited the toilet during the night the light in that area would light up the room. Also I think it could be described as rustic which covers chipped floor files and gaps between cupboards, mirrors and walls (insect areas). We didn’t complain to management as we noticed that rooms were the same style so felt a room change would have made no difference as the problem appeared endemic to the whole hotel. On a plus side, sheets were changed daily for which we were grateful. I found the pool areas very crowded but there were beds for everyone, it was just a bit claustrophobic. We did enjoy the breakfast buffet and some of the restaurants were very good: Asia Kan, Las Aguas, the Brasserie and staff at Sua were excellent. We have stayed in many five star hotels but unfortunately I don’t think this is one. I really wanted to like it as the area itself was lovely and the hotel’s own café along the promenade a lovely place to enjoy lunch. For all the above reasons we could not return.
This was our 3rd. visit, better than ever, the restaurants are excellent, the pools clean and well looked after, and the entertainment , something for everyone From the moment you arrive to the moment you leave the staff look after your every need in a friendly and professional way. Will be back soon.
"Very poor service"
This hotel really needs a freshening in service! We are staying here for a week, and the service is terrible! First night we had booked in a restaurant and when we arrived, they didn't have our reservation! We spend time with the hotel to plan the week with restaurants, but the first night was directly a deception. When I wend in the morning to the desk they said that they made a mistake....what if I didn't go to reception'' 3 night in a row we had to either ask for new towels or the beds were not turned down! When we had to wait it was not within an hour'... I believe that they are lucky that they deal with people on holiday in general, but when it was business travelers they would never pass the test! Unfortunately the management of the hotel do need take our issue too seriously apparently, since everything is reactive and pro active!
"a welcome suprise"
We have stopped at this hotel many times over the years and we have also stopped next door at El Mirador, on several occasions, as we do really prefer adult only as senior citizens, We could not get in at the Mirador due to refurbishment programme. As it was not half term time we decided to go to the Bahia del Duque, and went for half board, this is something we had'nt done in recent years as we had been highly dissapointed at the poor quality of the in-house restaurants previously, but to be honest there are'nt many good ones in the vicinity either, but wow they have really upped their game, we tried 5 of them and they could not really be faulted, the food and the speed of service was great, and in each one the staff were exemplary The grounds and layout are amazing as are all the pools. We will be stopping here on our next visit to Tenerife., as for us the Duque area is the only place to stay.
