"perfect location, great staff, great offseason deals"
Room was lovely and as mentioned the off season deals made this uber luxury hotel fall within our price range. Very helpful staff. loved it. Close trip to airport. Across the street from the Guggenheim with great views from the hotel and its restaurants. Needs a title upgrading in the bathroom where some fixtures were loose. Great location jot other amenities in the city by foot or other forms of transportation.
"Very Good Hotel"
We stayed for 2 nights in February. Got upgraded to a superior room overlooking the Guggenheim which was great. Staff very friendly and helpful. Lovely breakfast on the 7th floor terrace and with good weather a pleasure to sit in the open-air part with superb views of the museum and surroundings - though at €26 pp it should be good ! Dined in The Café one night and the meal/wine was fine at a reasonable price for 2, service was good with helpful staff to assist with any translation required. Used the hotel parking and though a little pricey at €25/night would thoroughly suggest anybody with a car does likewise for hassle-free time as parking spaces nearby on the street, chargeable and difficult to find. Clearly, great access for Guggenheim across road but only 10 min stroll into main shopping area and 20 mins along the river-side to old-town area. All in all can thoroughly recommend the hotel.
"A great find"
My partner and I stayed in this hotel for one night over the Christmas period and loved it, I had read all the good reviews, but still remained skeptical, as reviews are subjective of course! But the Gran Hotel Domine did not disappoint. We had a really nice room with fabulous views of the Guggenheim. The room was very clean and comfortable and had an amazing bathroom with a freestanding bath and a glass wall to the bedroom, you could even watch television from the bath! In fact the rest of the hotel was just as nice and smelt lovely! (I think there were polishers in polishing the woodwork in the hallways that lead to the rooms). The rooftop breakfast area has wonderful views over Bilbao, I just wish we had realised it was there the night before, as it is a bar in the evening. The breakfast buffet was very tasty with lots of options to choose from. The staff were also very friendly and helpful throughout. I just wish we could have stayed a little longer
"Tidy, comfortable, great view from breakfast terrace"
A modern hotel, let's call it a good 4* rather than 5* with large bedrooms surrounding an atrium. The hotel is immediately in front of The Guggenheim so great views and photo opportunities from the seventh-floor terrace. Breakfast was one step better than the usual buffet and service very friendly. There's a small car park below, though for €35 it was a reasonably hefty price to pay. In this area, however, there aren't many other choices if you're spending the day walking the streets.
We spent 2 nights in Bilbao and visited the Guggenheim twice. We stayed in the Domine which was trouble free. We had a junior suite on the 5th floor with a slightly odd layout but the bed, the bathroom and the view were perfect. We wanted to watch a football match and they went way out of their way to make sure we could. The front desk gave excellent recommendations for tapas/pintxos and a restaurant - the Baka baska which were excellent. Only disappointment was we had to fight to get more than two sachets of instant coffee for our morning coffee. The other thing which has nothing to do with the hotel is that tapas/pintxos have changed, they are now open sandwiches and all that bread doesn't enhance your appetite.
