"Really good food, great staff, okay rooms"
We stayed a week at the Gran Porto and it was in a great location with lots to do and see. When we arrived we had a junior suite and were room 430 that's is down a little hall with two other rooms. The room was nice, it had a king size bed with a neat circular light on the roof and a balcony that faced out to the road. We were happy at first but when we were woken up the next morning at 3am for over an hour by our very drunk and obnoxious neighbors we were not too thrilled about. Then later that morning we noticed how well we could hear the pool from our room and asked to be moved. We were then moved to room 403 that had two double beds, the room wasn't as nice, it didn't have a balcony but it was quieter and that's all we really wanted. The hotel had four a la carte restaurants an Italian restaurant(the only one you need reservations for), a sushi bar (only open for lunch) a Mexican restaurant and a Brazilian steak house. They also have three other restaurant being the main buffet, a outdoor buffet and the snack bar they also have a theme dinner and show every night of the week. The main buffet that was open for all meals was fine some days better than others but it was nothing special but was still decent. The outdoor buffet had burgers and hotdogs and was nice to just grab a quick easy bite while enjoying the pool. The snack bar usually had three or four hot items like fries as well as a selection of cold snacks like jello and yogurt, they also had a pop machine with alcohol you could add yourself. The sushi bar was surprisingly good they made all the sushi in front of you and have a good selection of around 8 or so different kinds it was actually some of the best sushi I've had at an all inclusive hotel. The Mexican restaurant as I'm sure you can imagine was great! We both had the steak and shrimp both times we went because it was incredible! The Italian was also great the first bring you bread with oil and balsamic vinegar, for my main I had the calzone and my boyfriend had the lasagna and they were both amazing! The Brazilian restaurant like every other a la carte was fantastic great variety of well cooked meats from pork, to beef, to shrimp, to grilled pineapple. The food was one of the best I've ever had at an all inclusive resort. It's very reasonable but give you all you can ask for from the white sand beaches to the swim up bars we were very happy with our stay and would absolutely stay again.
"PARADISE AT A GREAT VALUE"
Very happy with my trip. The food is great and the service is too. Mr Hernandez at the Mexican restaurant is the best. Location is fabulous with fishing and massages on the beach behind the resort. Shopping and more are just a block away.Con: The free beer is terrible and there is no American beer available. Tim
"10 days of fun in the sun"
Just spent 10 days at the Gran Porto in Playa del Carmen and loved it. So much fun. And so relaxing. The weather was beautiful, about 28 degrees Celsius every day. Great for sitting poolside and very comfortable at night. I love coming to Playa and I love staying at the Gran Porto. It is a great location and the staff and the service are excellent. They are such hard workers. Long days and always with a smile and they call you by name. With so many people, I just don’t know how they do it. But it sure makes you feel special. It is so nice to see familiar faces and also new ones. You will enjoy meeting Arturo on the Front Desk; he has a great smile and is always helpful. A great first impression of the hotel. The Conceirge ladies , Guadalope and Maria are really sweet and have a wonderful sense of humor and can answer all your questions. And the newest member of the Entertainment staff, Aranza (affectionately named Princess Aranza) is very personable, fun and engaging. The rooms are clean and bright and a good size. We chose the oceanfront room , ours also overlooked the pool area. So pretty at night especially. And everyday Amelia had a new towel art creation sitting on the bed. Such a nice touch. There is a nice variety of restaurants and bars to choose from as well. A favourite was the convenience of the buffet. Isaura is the hostess and a very nice lady. The service in all was excellent, Teresa & Magaly poolside and Idelfonso & Philip in the Pool Lounge were really good. We mostly stayed by the pool during the day, but there are lots of activities to choose from if you prefer. From games and exercise to learning Spanish. The poolside fashion show was something different and really enjoyable. I think that the evening entertainment has gotten better and better. The shows on the big stage are great. Very talented. We also enjoyed the entertainers in the lobby bar, but our favourite was the “Passions” singers. Beautiful voices. One of my other favourite things about this hotel is the great location. Right in the heart of Playa del Carmen. Beside the ocean. And only a block from 5th Avenue, the shopping, restaurant, nightclub and entertainment district. This area has changed quite a bit since my first trip. Now there are a lot of high end shops and not the quaint little village feel. But you can still find things from local artists. I purchased a beautiful and unique piece from Amate Gallery. There are lots of things to see and do. It is quite a happening place. It is a good location for excursions as well. The ferry to Cozumel is conveniently located beside the hotel. And also a lovely wedding place. There were a few at the hotel during our stay. This hotel is a great choice. Something I noticed this time but hadn’t noticed before, was that when the staff in the hotel speak to you they hold their right hand over their heart. I asked what that meant and it means with love from the heart. What a beautiful sentiment. Thank you for another lovely vacation.
"Great Hotel but,"
My husband and I had a wonderful time at Gran Porto Resort. We had a junior suite ocean view room with a king size bed which was very comfortable. The food was good the entertainment was excellent. We had fun daily pool side activities and evening entertainment. Amelia our house keeper was so sweet and the entire hotel staff made us feel special. The hotel itself was great. Unfortunately, the last storm washed away the beach. There were sandbags to retain the beach that was there, which wasn't much. Rocks made swimming and walking uncomfortable. Boats were docked on the beach. The sandbags made the beach look nasty to me. So, while the hotel was excellent the beach was well, poor. Nevertheless, we had a wonderful time just hanging around the hotel pool.
"Just Like Returning Home"
This is the 6th time we have gone to this resort and we will keep returning. The staff are all amazing and it feels like coming home each time we visit. The rooms are very clean, comfortable, and well equipped. The maids always go above and beyond leaving different towel art each day. The front desk staff are always friendly and helpful, especially Arturo. The main pool is large, refreshing, and well maintained and the entertainment team is great! A special thanks to the amazing pool bar staff Teresa, Jose, Pablo, Liliana, Jesus, Janeth, and anyone else we may have missed. They are always there with a fresh drink in hand a smile on their face. The food is amazing. The buffet is always good with a large variety to choose from and the hostess is so friendly and pleasant. Marias is our favourite restaurant there with amazing food, service, and Mayan Coffee! Thank you Eliazar, Lucy, and Ricardo in Marias! Il Pescatore is fantastic as well. The sushi bar beside the quiet pool is also very good. This time we had the pleasure of being invited to the Chef's Table prepared by Chef Luis which was a very memorable experience to taste his specialty dishes of Mexico. The general manager of the resort, Edwin, does an amazing job and always remembers us if we come across him at the resort. The location of the resort is perfect as it is on the beach and only a couple of blocks from 5th Avenue. We have been to many resorts in the area and this one is out absolute favourite!
