"Would definitely stay here again!"
Very nice hotel in an unbeatable location, right smack in the middle of Macau's famed historic centre. Free shuttle to the Cotai strip of hotels and casinos, as well as the airport and the new ferry terminal. Very clean and spacious rooms.
"WORST hotel I've ever stayed"
Do not expect any hospitality. I can not understand why people rate this hotel 4+ at all. My first bad experience happened when I and my sister arrived at the ferry terminal. I couldn't find the shuttle bus stop easily. Because the name of the hotel is "grand emperor" but they have "emperor palace" signage and written in Chinese only. And the shuttle bus staff did't know their hotel name. I asked her showing map but she ignored me. I had to walk around the ferry terminal with my heavy suitcase. They didn't even help me to put my suitcase on the bus. Not helpful at all. Disappointed. And my departure day, they made me feel bad again. I was waiting the bus to the ferry terminal with bus ticket but the old lady made us to move to another line without explaining anything(she said something in Chinese but not English. Staffs should be able to speak at least few English words). ONLY US. Even though we had exactly same tickets with other guests. And we had a big suitcase. WHY' And the old lady who distributes shuttle bus tickets was not helpful. The information is also written only in Chinese and she was not able to speak English at all as well. When I asked a question she just shacked her head and call another staff who wore suits. He was not able to speak English too. How can I get proper information from them' Staffs at the lobby cafe were not professional. I asked them a glass of water to have a medicine. But he forgot my request to serve other guests who entered the cafe after my request. I thought he was too busy to service other rich Chinese group guests. He didn’t even apologize when I asked it again. Annie(and a young lady) at the reception was excellent. Only she apologized for my experience and tried to help us. She made me calm after bad experiences. When I asked about ferry to go to Hong Kong airport, she called somewhere and got information about the time and arranged bus tickets so that we can get a very first shuttle bus to get the ferry terminal(but her kindness was ruined by the lady at the shuttle bus stop) If you can not speak Cantonese and need any help, just go straight to the reception and talk to young female staffs(young male staff was not useless). Most of the staffs can not speak English and their attitude are terrible!! In addition I wondered the meaning of some male staff’s existence who were suits and jut standing at the entrance. They looked like managers but didn’t do anything. They didn’t say hello nor help guests to open the entrance door. Even we had a big suitcase. When I asked them the way to the church, they seemed not understand English. But he shouted something when we had seats at the lobby cafe even though the cafe is closed and nobody was there!! I have never experienced such things even at cheap backpackers hostel. They totally ruined the impression of this hotel. Unbelievable. I want to know why I and my sister treated like this' Because we looked younger than other guests' We are female' We can not speak Cantonese' Most of the staffs didn't try to solve problems when they realized I don't speak Cantonese. I didn’t expect extremely high level of service but just a basic welcome. If you want to enjoy your stay at this hotel, you should be able to speak Cantonese, male, over 50. They decorate only outside of the hotel but no hospitality. Its empty. I never come back to this hotel nor Macau again.
"Very good service and superb location."
Efficient bus shuttle services, short queue but could have offered more locations exclusive to hotel residents. Very friendly, efficient English speaking staff. Buffet breakfast is good but more choices could be better. Walking distance to many places Senado Square, Nam Van Lake, Lisboa, Wynn, MGM, Star World, Kun Iam statue..superb location. Also nxt to New Yaohan food court. Highly recommended for those on DIY trips.
"True royalty in looks and service"
I has very impressed with the staff. Annie W. helped us with all our questions. I like the British theme. There was a shiny antique royal carriage out front and 2 royal guards at the door. They even have a changing of the guard ceremony.
