The Grand Hotel Continental is located in the heart of Siena, in the center of the pedestrian shopping area with in walking distance to the Piazza del Campo, the Duomo and all major sites/attractions.
Access: At Siena "Ovest-Porta San Marco" junction, turn right towards Siena, at the roundabout follow signs to "Centro/Stadio". Continue along Strada di Pescaia until the traffic light; turn right. At the top of the hill turn left, at the next junction turn right still following signs to "Centro/Stadio". From the end of the avenue, continue along the main road for 400m, turn sharp right (signed to Grand Hotel Continental) to enter Piazza Matteotti. Continue towards the main street (access only for authorised persons including hotel guests) until Piazza Salimbene.
Description :
The Hotel Continental is housed in Palazzo Gori Pannilini, built in the 17th century by the Chigi Pope Alexander VII for his niece Olimpia on the occasion of her marriage to the nobleman Giulio de' Gori.
Recent restoration work has uncovered frescoes of outstanding beauty and the structure of a medieval tower but all of the original details remain.
The cross-vaulted lobby leading into the heart of this hotel is painstakingly authentic, yet the glass-topped atrium courtyard is strikingly modern, with a glass elevator rising to the upper two levels. The lounge in back of the lobby is full of fringed lime-green sofas and chairs. This magnificent salon is illuminated by Murano chandeliers and emblazoned with frescoes on every available surface.
The 51 rooms are furbished with elegance, antique or contemporary furniture, precious fabrics and unique décor.
The Sapordivino Wine Bar & Restaurant, situated in the winter garden covered by a crystal dome, serves exquisite Tuscan cuisine with the creative touch of Chef Paolo Maretti and offers a large selection of Italian wines.
