"Perfect location on the Place du Capitole"
Extremely atmospheric, the room done up in crimson wall upholstery and mahogany trim. (Finally, an historic French hotel that doesn't look like an IKEA showroom!) The only quibble is the lighting was a little too dim in the room. Nice breakfast option, reliable WiFi, pleasant staff, toiletries and linens great quality.
"Luxury Hotel in the heart of Toulouse"
Luxury hotel, beautiful rooms and facilities. Excellent location with friendly helpful staff. This hotel was easy to find, right in the square. Room was comfortable with luxurious bedding. Breakfast was delicious.
"Luxury hotel, great location,"
The hotel was definitely one of the nicest ones in Toulouse. Since we had a car, the valet service was a nice perk (although expensive- 26 euros a night). There is also a 2 star Michelin rated restaurant in the foyer of the hotel, which goes to show the caliber of hotel. The bell-boy took care of the luggage and helping us with any shopping bags, etc. The service was definitely something I was willing to pay for. The hotel met our expectations except for a few things: 1) no conditioner in the bathroom 2) hair dryer was really low-powered 3) if you're taller than 6'0, the shower might be an issue (at least in the room we stayed in)
"Not worth it"
The place is extremely difficult to get to by car, you can only get there from one direction because all other access is blocked. Anyone who wants to get there has to call first to figure it out. It was an okay room but extremely loud without any soundproofing of the windows. Our room faced the inner courtyard and starting at 6am people were talking loudly and it is guaranteed to echo into the hotel room (even WITH earplugs). We also asked for more pillows and they could only find one in the entire hotel which seems shocking for such a reportedly nice hotel. The restaurant was a gastronomic delight, but overall we were unimpressed and will likely stay elsewhere on our next visit.
"Good location, nice staff, charming public rooms, dated bedrooms"
I stayed here twice in April 2016, once on my own, and once as the leader of a small group. My feelings about the Grand Hotel de l'Opera are mixed. The location is great, on the main square in central Toulouse, walk to river, cathedrals, etc. The public rooms speak to a former era and are fun. The staff is professional and helpful. My hesitation to go all the way (and I debated between three and four point, rather than the five points a classy 4-star "Grand" hotel should aim for) has to do with the bedrooms. Both mine were small, poorly organized, scuffed from usage (definitely ready for refurbishing), and decorated in bordello velvet. Not really my taste, but could be fun with the right company. So I'd say if you know what you will be getting this is a unique hotel with a certain flavor, but in some respects it truly disappointed me. I will look at other options next time I visit the wonderful city of Toulouse!
