"Enjoyable hotel that needs just a few tweaks"
We spent two nights at this hotel, and enjoyed virtually everything about it. Our room was spacious and well appointed; the bar is comfortable, with good service; the breakfast buffet was very good; and of course the location in the heart of Toulouse is excellent. We tried room service once, and became frustrated because the kitchen couldn't seem to understand what gluten-free means, and it turns out the wine service is separate from the kitchen -- so we had wine delivered, even though we had cancelled our food order. Eventually, we did receive two excellent omelets for dinner -- but both came with rolls (my wife has celiac disease, and so can't eat anything made with wheat flower). Some work is needed on coordinating things a bit better. And there is my longstanding complaint about showers in French hotels -- it seems they expect guests to be contortionists, with suction cups on the bottom of their feet. Not sure why it's so hard to install reasonably spacious showers with flat bottoms, non-skid mats, and a couple of bars to hold on to.
"Lovely Hotel, Great Location, Enjoyed our stay."
The Grand Hotel de L'Opera is all you would expect from a top rate hotel. Smart professional staff, beautiful, comfortable rooms and also our room was exceptionally quiet, for a city centre hotel. The only downside was that on arrival, we were told that my card had been refused on booking and that the booking had been annulled. We could get a room but at a higher rate than the one we had booked. The Receptionist said they had emailed but the only email I had received was one saying that the booking was confirmed. They said this is automatic and sent before the card is charged. The card refusal is a mystery to me as it is a card that I use every day and have never had another refusal. The undelivered email is also a bit of a mystery as the "confirmation" email that it turns out isn't really a confirmation got through ok. So arriving, being told we didn't have our reservation and having to pay more unfortunately took the sparkle off of an otherwise lovely stay.
Stayed for a couple of days on our way to Lourdes. Landed at Toulouse airport so we took time out to see the sights. Busy on Saturday and plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from, but beware Sunday is the opposite, no shops are open and little choice in restaurants and the bars that are open close at 9pm.
"Hotel in center of Toulouse. Calm and excellent breakfast"
Situation in town center allows frequent trips without car usage. Calm room with confortable beds allows good sleeping. Perfect breakfast, various and quality. Problem is when you use your car, no specific parking available.
"Great hotel in the central plaza"
I loved this hotel. The hallways, stairways, doors are beginning to look a little used and dated, but overall this is a great hotel with excellent service and in a fabulous location. The staff were warm and friendly. And the room was very comfortable, even luxurious -- and spacious. This was my arrival hotel after my long journey from the US so I appreciated the comfort and service -- and the good work space / desk at which I sat and typed like crazy before I truly began my business trip the next afternoon. I ordered room service for breakfast to allow me to work through breakfast and overall it was very good. It met expectations except for one thing: the muesli. I ordered muesli expecting an organic or natural muesli with dried fruit, nuts and other ingredients that comprise the best muesli you would find in a 4-star hotel. I received a pre-packaged back of Kellogg cereal full of sugar. This is the one piece of constructive feedback I'd like to offer the hotel: Your customer expects better cereal than the kind delivered by the big industrial brands. When I travel, I like the healthiest, highest-quality selections, and I hope you will upgrade this part of your breakfast offering! The staff was so nice -- I met with 2 very nice people and upon arrival was treated so warmly throughout. Also, I loved the brasserie downstairs. So convenient, delicious meal, and great waiter, who sent me "home" to my hotel with a glass bottle of water when I asked for it. (I returned it the next day.) Finally, the location is perfect and I really enjoyed a quick wander through the alleys of the city. I didn't have a lot of time, but even 30 minutes of wandering in the surrounding streets was just perfect. Of course, I found an amazing chocolatier.
