The Grand Hotel et de Milan enjoys an excellent location in the centre of Milan, opposite via Montenapoleone. The Cathedral, La Scala Theatre and financial district are located nearby. The most important museums such as the Poldi Pezzoli, the Royal Palace, the Brera picture gallery - surrounded by the lively artist's quarter - and the Galleria are all just a stone's throw away. The property is just a short walk from the Alla Scala theatre the Duomo and the financial area of the city.

"Classy, historic luxury just minutes from the Duomo and Galleria Vittorio Emanuele"
Initially we felt overwhelmed by the number of options for fine hotels in Milan. There was also a furniture show the weekend we stayed in Milan, so some of the options had restrictions and limited availability. Eventually we came across the Grand Hotel et de Milan and it turned out to be exactly what we hoped for: class and luxury combined with convenience and comfort. If you are in to historic locations, with antique furniture and furnishings, this is a great option. Large and spacious rooms with high ceilings, beautifully decorated and modern conveniences. Quiet, upscale and a terrific location - this is a perfect hotel for those who want to have the convenience of a large chain hotel while staying in a small, quaint hotel.
"Incomparable service and great value for money"
We chose the Grand Hotel for its proximity to La Scala opera house and the Manzoni theatre. And of course for its intimate links to Verdi who usually stayed here and composed parts of Otello and Falstaff in his suite, room 105 on the first floor. And he died in the Grand Hotel. From the moment we gave our names at reception we were honoured guests. The staff at reception, all of them to a man and woman, were as stylish as they were efficient and impressively polyglot. One particular lady receptionist spoke to us in flawless English and of course perfect Italian, while shortly afterwards welcoming guests in Cantonese or Mandarin! The staff were genuinely solicitous to make our stay as perfect as possible. What can we say other than 'mille grazie'. We had booked a deluxe room which was exquisitely appointed with lots of nice little touches, attention to detail, and with a very comfortable bed. We had booked breakfast included and would strongly recommend this: attentive service, delicate food(s) in abundance, hot and cold, the best latte macchiato I have ever had, prosecco (if you wish - we passed), and even dim sum. The hotel really does push the boat out. It is internationally sophisticated as you would expect from a luxury hotel while at the same time retaining an acute sense of authentic 'Italianità', which is one of the things visitors prize most about Italy. We did not have time to dine in the hotel as we were out both nights, alas, but we did twice sit in Jerry's Bar enjoying proseccos. These came with the most generous portions of titbits and were outstanding value for money. The food that went out to late lunch-time guests in Jerry's looked impressive, with 'coperto' taking on a new meaning. Here too the staff were impeccable. On both mornings we used the grand staircase to go down for breakfast. It takes you past Verdi's suite, probably the single most important, and certainly the most moving, set of rooms in all of Milan. Here too the hotel's elegance and savoir-faire come into their own. Far from turning the suite into a mausoleum, they have made it into a living space, regularly used for meetings and yet spotless and fully curated. When the suite is empty the hotel will let you visit it, if you give them notice on arrival. It nearly left us in tears, to stand in the same rooms and among the furniture of the genius who gave the world Va pensiero, Rigoletto, Traviata, and so much else. We have been fortunate to afford Leading Hotels of the World / Relais et Chateaux over many years. The standards are always high but this is now our favourite. We fell in love with it, like so many people before us. We can't thank the staff and management enough for their kindness, their making our first ever La Scala visit even more special. And for being such knowledgeable custodians of a unique musical heritage. People talk about the chic of Milan. The Grand Hotel sits in the middle of the chic fashion district of the city and itself bear witness to the ongoing magic of Italy. Thank you for everything. We will be back at the first opportunity. "Bravo! This is absolutely a "Grand" Hotel!"
There is nothing better than service that seems so effortless. The staff at this hotel is amazingly gracious and proud of what they do. I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Milan for business or for pleasure. Its is a short walk for La Scala, the Duomo and many other sights. My thanks to Sergio, Stefano and Cinzia and all whose names I did not remember.
"Pretty old world hotel, service could not keep up."
It was our first visit to Milan so picking the right section of the city to stay is always a challenge. The Grand Hotel is close to the opera house and a lot of the other 5 star hotels seem to be in the same are so I selected the Grand Hotel because it was part of the Platinum American Express program. The hotel definitely has old world charm while still being updated. We were very happy with our room which was a large junior suite. It was updated, had a nice bathroom and a nespresso machine in room. The main problem we had with the hotel was the front desk service, normally the easiest part of a hotel to control. They suggested and we went too restaurants that just were not good and their service was poor. It seems that they have spent money to updated the facility but did not update the personal at the hotel. We had drinks and meals at the other 5 star hotels in the area and their service was great as you would expect. I would not suggest the Grand hotel as a five star choice in Milan, unless we just had bad luck and got the weekend crew of rookies that delivered us substandard service.
"Marvellous hotel with a "small" glitch"
The only reason why this hotel did not get an "excellent" rating was because there was no hot water for the shower on the morning we were preparing to check out. Not just our room but all 3 rooms of our entire party. The staff didn't manage to fix it by the time we left. They did waive our bar/mini bar charges which I thought was the very least they could do. Otherwise, I thought the hotel was perfect. Location (unbeatable), service (helpful and always with a smile), room (we had a classic PR deluxe which was quite large, ultra high ceiling, very comfortable bed and graciously decorated together with a massive bathroom and the property itself (just gorgeous).
