We stayed here around Christmas and communicated with the concierge frequently prior to our arrival. We were advised that Christmas Eve is the big celebration so reservations were recommended. She booked us in the hotel restaurant but left out crucial information ~ there would be a special menu and a special price, 120 Euros w/alcohol and 95 w/o. Even after I questioned the menu on the web site she never mentioned those two important facts. These prices are well above the local pricing. Goldener Adler was offering dinner at 54.50 w/o alcohol. The first we learned of this was Christmas Eve at 7pm. There was one option for an entrée and 5/6 of our party did not eat the option. Additionally they had to sub out another course for 5/6 as well. Service was beyond horrible. We were left in a room without wine or water refills and no server. By 9:30 the entrée had not been served. My daughter fell asleep before the entrée was served and 2 of 5 tables got up and left. We have communicated with the hotel/restaurant requesting a credit and they were simply dismissive ~ we have your cc# and for the other tables who left, and we are working on our service issue. We paid $700 for food we didn't like and service that was deplorable. They offered us a voucher in Italy ~ insulting!!
"Great hotel, disappointing lobby bar"
Loved our stay here. Convenient to everything, the rooms were large and clean, staff were nice and incredibly helpful, etc. Only complaint was the lobby bar. It looks fun but Good Luck if you want anything other than beer. We tried ordering cocktails and the bartender twice then said 'beer''. Ordered a Manhattan (which was on the menu) and when it arrived it was clear...and tasted terrible. I politely said it was not a manhattan but was still charged E8.50. Similar happened two nights with two different bartenders.
"Good but could be better"
Having stayed at this hotel 11 years ago, we were excited and looking forward to visiting again. On arrival we immediately focused on the changes that had been made to the hotel. The lady behind reception said since our last visit the hotel had been refurbished. As we had stayed before we were given a free upgrade on our room. Although it was very nice having an upgrade, we found the quality in the decor had gone. Our thoughts were what have they done to this beautiful hotel. We think now perhaps a four star hotel. If you are visiting Innsbruck, this hotel has a perfect location. Its directly opposite the bus and train station with its own direct link underground by using the hotel lift. We could not hear any noise from outside. The town (shopping area) is directly behind the hotel with the old town a further 5 to 10 min. Breakfast is very good with a good choice to suit everybody, from champagne and smoked salmon to a full cooked breakfast. The breakfast room has not been touched by the refurbishment so its a joy to eat in such surroundings. At night this room becomes a restaurant but the meals are quite expensive. Now what makes hotels better or different is the service. We found the staff to be very friendly, helpful and with a smile. Would I stay here again' Yes. The hotel is good value when compared with similar in Innsbruck. We would have given five stars if the restaurant was more affordable and the rooms were better.
"2 Nights in Innsbruck"
We stayed in this Hotel half way during our trip from Germany to Italy, it was a very nice experience. First of all the position of the hotel is very good as it is opposite to the train station, with few steps you will be out of the train and inside your room, it also helps in checking out when you want to take your time heading to your train. The room are big, clean and nicely decorated, and the breakfast is very good. Moreover the fact that the city is not quite big you can walk from the hotel to down town in 7 minutes which I really loved. Bare in mind that with all of those features the room price is not cheap, you will end up paying more in compassion to many other hotels down town, so in the end it all depends on what are you looking for. I highly recommend it if you don't mind the price tag.
"Perfect location and a lovely city"
My husband, daughter and I have recently returned from a 3 day trip to Innsbruck, staying in the Grand Hotel Europa. The hotel was perfect for our needs, great location, welcoming staff, nice rooms and lovely breakfast. The hotel is about 5 mins walk from the central part of Innsbruck and sits opposite the train station for those travelling by train. It was also just a short taxi ride from the airport, 15 euros. We would definitely recommend this hotel to others staying In Innsbruck.
