"Great place to stay in the heart of Oslo"
A grand hotel, indeed. Amazing location with excellent service all around. The breakfast was excellent and was definitely one of the highlights. We did have issues with the internet connection most of the time, so that was a bit concerning. Other than that, the place was spotless, service superb, and food amazing. Thanks. Keep up the good work
"Exemplary in all areas, a fantastic attitude and superb staff"
If only all business hotels could be like this. "Of course we don't need your passport sir." "Of course our Wifi is free of charge." "Yes of course we have a power adapter for you - just bring it back when you checkout." "You'd like some room service... of course i'll have it delivered in the next ten minutes (!!!)". Oh what a breath of fresh air to a weary business traveller who has had ENOUGH of arrogant staff in business hotels in other countries. I know much of this is just "Norway"... friendly unassuming staff, an absence of petty bureaucracy, quiet unimposing efficiency... its all just taken for granted here... Regardless, this is a fantastic hotel. The rooms are lovely, the food perfect for what I wanted. The grand hotel.... its just grand. I shall be back.
"Great hotel in city center"
We visited in December to take advantage of the Christmas markets but the disadvantage in December is daylight is from about 9-3 daily. The hotel staff is friendly and we had a great room on the 7th floor with a small outdoor sitting area that looked down to the palace. The room was clean and the bed was really comfortable. We had drinks at the lobby bar one evening which is small but nice and the service is excellent. The new renovations are nicely done, bright and sophisticated. We walked everywhere in the city from its location and arriving from the airport we took the train to within a 1/4 mile and walked through the town without issue. We ate breakfast on two days and it is very good, as a result of its success, it gets crowded and a bit chaotic since its popular. We did not eat at the restaurants during our visit but like other parts of the hotel, they appeared to be busy and well served. Overall, we loved Oslo on a short visit and hope to return soon. If we do, we would certainly stay at the Grand Hotel again.
"5 star interior, mediocre service "
First I was really impressed with the quality and size of the grand deluxe room, the grandiosity of the public areas, and the central location. Then my WiFi went down after some hours and despite two complaints to two different staff members I was asked to just go onto the hotel's Telenor free WiFi which works but isn't exactly lightning fast. Two days later the Grand Hotel WiFi is still not working. The minibar is apparently not replenished on a daily basis either, and when I asked the cleaner about it I was asked to contact room service as it seems filling up the mini bar is an on demand service. I ordered a small bottle of wine 1,5 hours ago and no one has yet come to deliver it. The service in the restaurant was they typical standard mediocre Nordic service (I'm Swedish myself and live in London) and the bread wasn't much to speak of, and the crab finger snack with a mini bread bun was about an inch in height and costed 65 NOK. The main course (pork sirloin) was pretty good but the meat was a bit on the dry side (the restaurant was 20% full). Overall I'd probably stay here again because it's certainly not a bad hotel. I paid roughly the same as for a 4 star hotel between Wed-Sat which is attractive due to the venere of 5-star surrounding but when the service is 3 to 3.5 stars maximum I'd say this hotel is more of a 4-star hotel overall. In summary, fix the service and you'll get a five star rating next time. Kudos to upgrading my colleague to a luxurious suite after he complained about his faltering WiFi.
"Grand Hotel Oslo"
The recent renovation of the hotel brings a new (and welcome) modernity. Good service, spacious rooms and great location. Limited choice on the room service menu Also I've stayed many times in this hotel and had a few times a room with a window on the inner yard. These rooms are dark even during a sunny day and I miss natural light...
