"Beautiful and glamour place"
I recommend Martinez as one of the best place to stay in Cannes! Is not the first time for me in Cannes, but for sure was the best experience! The hotel, the staff, the history of place make Martinez as one of my first five place in my life!
"Great hotel for families with superb customer service"
This is our 4th time coming back to the Hotel Martinez. We absolutely love this place. The guest relations team is superb and really know make you feel welcome and special. The staff from housekeeping to waiters, doorman and concierge are all very friendly and welcoming (not always the case when we have two little children who are very loud and active!) This is a good hotel for families with kids but it's not "family hotel" if you get what I mean, i.e. it's not overrun with kids. They are kid-friendly and staff are very accommodating to kids. There is a kids club in the summer and during holiday periods, playground and funfair literally a 2 minute walk from the hotel. We've come here twice during the Easter holidays and they had an elaborate program for kids all weekend. Our daughter wants to go back every Easter now!! Excellent location on the Croisette. Easy walk to all the shops and restaurants. Sea view facing rooms get fantastic view of the fireworks during Bastille Day. Rooms are comfortable, though some are a little dated. Love that they have the electronic shutters outside the windows so you can block out all light if you want to sleep in. Great for helping little kids adjust to jet lag. They are undergoing renovation on some of the rooms now so we can't wait to see what the newest rooms will look like.
We have stayed at the hotel many times, booking through Trivago. One each occasion we have been treated very well, given free upgrades and complimentary use of the beach. The last time we were here we booked directly with the hotel. They quoted us one price and then charged me more. They didn't provide a receipt. Then they said I had only booked for one person even though I had written proof that I had booked for two people. The hotel apologised when I showed them the proof and said they would upgrade me "to the highest possible room available on arrival" and give me a "vip welcome. When we arrived they didn't upgrade us and when I pointed out that they had made the offer they said they would upgrade me if we paid more. We got no welcome other than a very rude receptionist. The room they gave us was dirty and the dust caused me irritation to my throat, spoiling my whole holiday. The hotel stopped providing us with toilet roll half way through our stay forcing us to go to the concierge to ask for some when we need more. We ordered club sandwiches and gin which came to a total of over 100 euros and were not given any cutlery to each the food with or napkins. When I said I felt for the price they should provide cutlery, the following morning the waiter made a big deal out of getting my husband cutlery when he lifted a croissant for breakfast. This hotel has no concept of how to treat guests and doesn't even follow the law. It relies on the fact that it's terms and conditions state you have to take disputes up with the company in America to avoid any consequences for breaking EU law. I would not recommend anyone to stay in this hotel.
"Beautiful Art Deco hotel across from the waterfront"
Was hard to decide if I wanted to give it a 3 or a 4...went with 3 because we had a lousy view from our room (but we could have paid a lot more and had a good one, so my choice). Rooms are nice, lounge is great (bartenders are phenomenal...high rating for all of them) and dining was good but if you want the nice restaurant make your reservations before you get there or you will probably not get a table. I loved the whole art deco design...amazing and in all the touches and you can't beat the beach access!
"Such a disappointment"
I'm French and I wanted my American wife to visit and discover the southeast of France. We had a promotion on a superior room with voyageprive.com and the offer sounded good value for money. In addition I decided to treat my wife at the 2 star Michelin restaurant that I enjoyed very much about 10 years ago. My first disappointment came with the room, quote "you got a nice bedroom on the 5th floor". Actually the room was nice if you don't factor in the permanent noise of the train behind. Honestly, having told the reception I had a reservation at the top tier restaurant, I had expected à kind of upgrade which wasn't on their agenda, although the occupancy rate was really low. As an interesting comparison, we stayed at the iconic Carlton the night before with a similar promotion from the same website, and the room was way better with a real balcony, better side sea view, and no train ! However, at 8 pm we were at the 2* restaurant, all thrilled with the experience to come. Well, the truth is Mr Sinicropi's (the Chef) cuisine is wonderful. Moreover, the set of different plates designed by Mr and Mrs Sinicropi is original and tasteful. Alas, the menu prices (mouvements, as they are presented) are way too expensive. This would be acceptable if the wine prices were reasonable but they are not. For example, the very good Blanc de blancs Ott Clos Mireille Is offered at 82€ whereas it is 58€ at the reputed Fish and Crustacean Restaurant Astoux in Cannes, and 48€ at l'auberge Dab in Paris (Great place for oysters...). And "cherry on the cake" if I may, dessert is not included in the "mouvement" menu, so you have to pay 30€ on top of 142€ (lamb movement) or 198€ (king prawn movement). Last but not least, 10€ for the bottle of chateldon water we paid 6€ at l'oustau de Baumaniere, another 2* Michelin restaurant in Provence we experienced 2 days ago. So you got my drift, unless you're a Russian oligarch, a "nouveau riche" or à jet set bragger attending one of many Cannes events, you really don't want to go there, once again, regardless of the indisputable quality of the food. A special mention to the service team though, all very kind and efficient. We'll come back to Cannes, but not at the Martinez hotel, and not at the Palme d'or restaurant. Too bad, but "c'est la vie", it is what it is...
