"It's great but....."
The Hotel is great but it's really the staff that drive the excellence of this place. It sits on the edge of HK Island in Wan Chai. I think I've been coming here for 10 years. The harbor disappears by the hour. The government reclaim it's magnificence for further building projects and it is unrelenting. Every day, less water, more progress. Looking from my window the channel in parts seems only a few hundred yards wide. One day they'll launch the Star Ferry off Kowloon side and it will travel 15 yards before bumping in to land! Someone will scream " let's build a footbridge" As stated, the service here is unbelievable. A special mention to Scott who runs breakfast. You meet those people whose life is sacrificed for the good of a guest, and who never looks weary and never complains . I am not that guy, but bless the Hyatt, Scotty is. I'd like to gift wrap him and take him home for the family. All facilities are good and continually upgraded. To the romantics and the couples out there though, it is a bit of a conference hub. I don't know what the collective noun for people wearing lanyards is but it would apply in the hotel's foyer. A hunger of lanyards , a thirst of lan..... Rooms are brilliant. Room service, air con, video and audio all top notch . It's close to the train(MTR) which gets you everywhere fast. They can be crowded so I suggest bolstering a bottle of sanitizer on each hip. The only complaint I have, and on every review for the Hyatt I do when I stay, is the smoking area extends around the health club and the pool 24/7. At 630 am this morning, having an early swim, my eyes breached the water line like Martin Sheen in Apocalypse Now. A very unhealthy turgid guest was puffing on a cigar at a table on the pool's edge. Look, I know we are in Asia, and smoking is regarded as a right rather than a vascular melting time bomb that the odd doctor seems to agrees with. But surely there is a possibility of excluding the edge of the pool from say 6am to 9 am for those of us who want to sprint in to our 50's. As you approach the pool, there is actually a beautiful tree lined area that a young guy was drinking his can of Red Bull and smoking while tapping away on his laptop this morning. It's 30 to 40 yards from the pool and I'm sure he'd enjoy the company. But as always the next sound you'll hear is that complaint bouncing off a decade of deaf ears. I do love this place, but one day the Executive will wake up , realize it's 2016/2017, and make small concessions to the healthy in general rather than an excessive minority.
"Grand Executive Harbor Suite"
Spent three nights with three people in a Grand Executive Harbor Suite. The room finishes were outstanding, as was the harbor view. There was plenty of room for three with the addition of a rollaway bed. Food and drinks in the Grand Club Lounge (included with this room) were excellent. I researched at least a dozen hotels before deciding on the Grand Hyatt. I made an excellent choice. You won't go wrong booking this hotel.
Stayed in a Club Room which provided access to the lounge as well. The room was well furnished in a modern minimalist manner. Very comfortable bed and pillows. They also provide a phone which provides you a wifi hotspot and free international calls which is great. The only downside is the poor quality of the toiletries they provide Breakfast at the lounge is excellent, however they seem quite short staffed.
"True Five Star Ambience!"
This is an outstanding Hotel and its exceptionally relaxing pool alone justifies a stay. This pool represents a serene oasis amidst the insatiable hustle and bustle of Wan Chai. The service is discreet, unassuming but top notch in all its particulars. From the Reception Desk to all the restaurants; the standard of service and the quality of the products and services never fail to impress.
"Service makes up for the location"
Not the best location and close to a huge building site but rooms are nice, club lounge great (sometimes overpacked) with good food and drinks (Ruinart) and service amazing (reception, lounge manager, guy organising the taxis, etc).
