"Nice and clean but Not so worthy"
I was expecting a lot more from the Kempinsky name. The location is good specially if you are looking for something close to the Pearl and Shanghai Tower. The Bund is easily accessed. The staff tries to be helpful, but they wont take any extra effort beyond normal, although they are friendly. However English is a big barrier even for the staff in this hotel. The BIG con are the prices for everything inside the hotel. Breakfast buffet for $35 USD a person, High-Tea for $30 USD a person, Dinner buffet for $70 USD a person. Traveling with wife and 2 children will cost $120 US for tea and 1 piece of cake. Outrageous. We had to look outside the hotel for every single meal.
"Luxury hotel with great service "
I stayed there 4 nights. Everything is perfect. The breakfast was good with ice cream and variety of choices both local Chinese or European dishes. The room is spacious with separated shower booth and bathtub. I suggest to request high floor to enjoy with the view. The front office staff, Amber make my stay difference than other hotel in shanghai. She shared me about the hotel facilities and information of the local sightseeing. It is not a first time in Shanghai but it always is a good experience to hear the story from local insider about their tourist site. She also wrote down the place name on taxi card because she understand how difficult to communicate in Chinese as visitor here.
"Very Lovely Customer Experience"
This is the best stay out of 3 hotels that i stayed in a week. Was upgraded to a high floor room L20 as the staff couldnt upgrade to a river view. Room is spacious with a sitting area and 2 single beds. As a lady traveller, it is much appreciated that i was assigned to a room right next to lift lobby. Room has a city view. The room turn-down was very well done. Housekeeping staff lay out my makeup nicely on top a piece of cloth in the bathroom as i was in a rush to go out earlier. Thumbs up for the thoughtful and through housekeeping service. Toiletries were replenished and used towel was changed. A tub of ice cubes was also in my room (but alas it has melted by the time i got back) Room service was fast and food was delivered in 15mins as opposed to the holding reply of 30mins. Ordered Yang Zhou Fried Rice which was tasty. Bath shower came in 3 different hoses and flooring was an additional slab of tile with deep grooves to prevent slip. This is good safety measure. Room has a cosy hue and makes it a very comfortable stay. Buffet breakfast comes with a good spread of food. One thing to feedback is there is no teaspoon when we ordered tea/coffee. Please include the same for stirring the beverages. One of the staff was helpful. He rushed to me and helped with my old school luggage (2 wheels) when he saw me dragging the luggage down the slope. Hotel is in a very good location with Metro nearby. About 10mins walk to Oriental Tower. The extra miles exhibited through housekeeping and concerige go to make a lasting very positive impression. This is one of the few hotels which i would stay in again.
"Memorable and delightful…."
I am excited to share my delightful experience at the Grand Kempinski Hotel in Shanghai. I was pleasantly surprised at the cleanliness of the entire hotel, the professionalism displayed by every staff member I encountered and level of service I experienced. I would like to recognize the staff in the executive lounge and in particularly Peter Zhuang. He delivers service at a whole new dimension, its one level of service to request something and receive it; it’s a whole different dimension of service when needs are anticipated and delivered. This is what differentiates the service I received during my entire stay and will remain forever a memorable one. A bit of background, for past 14 years I have been going to Shanghai on average twice per year for business. I always stayed at the same hotel prior to my recent stay at the Kempinski. Your guess is correct as to where my new home will be when I return to Shanghai in the future for business.
"Great Hotel, loved the stay"
I loved the convenient location of the hotel (just 10 minute walk from the Lujiazui metro station) the hotel is located in a heart of the busy business center, really close to 2 shopping malls, and right next to the Shanghai Aquarium and the Pearl Tower, surprisingly it still has the peaceful environment not all hotels in the city does. As for the room and view, it's all very nice, especially the view of the pearl tower from the gym on the top floor. What made my stay very memorable was the hotel staff, the Lady in Red Eileen and Ariel were very professional and friendly the entire time of my stay and helped me made my stay in shanghai most enjoyable, not to mention they have fantastic english. The concierge team, and front desk were also very friendly. If you do come to the hotel i recommend trying the Afternoon tea and also redeeming for the Big bus tour local experience
