"Good, but not 5 Star plus, other than price!"
First the good points. Room was spacious clean, nicely decorated. Transfer from airport was great and service was generally pretty good. Breakfast was very good too. The hotel is in a very good location. The hotel has character. Beds were comfortable and nice touch re chocolates. The bad points, the tv has no movie channels and is pretty limited. The spa is booked privately so only you can use. That's great if you have booked but means the chances are that others have booked already, so no access for your stay. The steam room lacks mood lighting or relaxing scents. It's basic and plastic. The main bar permits smoking. Ok I suppose, but there is no where free from smoke as doors were open and most people in bar were puffing away, thinking they were in heaven smoking indoors. I was surprised. Showers are in bath, which are narrow at base and no thermostatic control so sometimes there would not be a constant temperature. So for me, it was not quite the luxury that I had imagined. It was good, but not that good.
"Cant belive this hotel isnt top 5"
I have to say this was a superb stay from start, until finish. We checked in early without a problem with a cozy sitdown checkin with the receptionist. Great service from all the receptionists. Helped me with restaurants and nightclub recomendation. Nothing felt to stiff or fancy even if the property and areas itself felt very classy! Loved the small breakfeast buffet and Micha(the Hotel Parrot who greeted us welcome every morning) Even if it looked small it had a very good variety. Didnt miss a thing. In the bar they served me a Old Faschioned that was served exactly as it should be. I took one more later on at Radisson Blu skybar which was terrible. So maybe one extra in the hotel bar next time! Next time im visiting Riga i will bring my friends instead of my mum :) Many thanks and good work!
"very comfortable hotel with great staff"
Good sized hotel, about 55 rooms, which is small enough to be personal Nice one bedroom suite on the top floor - extremely quiet and warm. The bar and lobby area could do with some mild updating, especially to match the carpet on the floors above.
"God place to chill during a blizzard"
Thoroughly well earned 5 stars. Professional, friendly. Runs on greased rails. This is a lovely part of town and the Grand Palace is a great spot to relax in between on Riga's many attractions. The bar is a haven for smokers, especially when there's as a blizzard, as there was. I don't smoke but the faint smell didn't bother me. The breakfast was possibly the best I've had in a hotel. Everything you could think of, done to perfection.
"Excellent service at the perfect location"
This was quite an experience for us. Not only is this an unspoiled jewel of a city which makes me almost regret to point it out to so many people. The hotel manages to combine grandeur with very personal service. I can only but give it a big thumbs up. I only regret not having tried dinner there.
