"good place to be"
i was worried how clean it is before booking this hotel, in fact the room was quite clean, decent breakfast is at restaurant/cafe next door, enough for morning based on the price, and super good location, i think it's a good choice for a short stay you got MaD downstairs there are ice cram shop, restaurants all around, very convenient
"An Ideal Location in the City"
We stayed here for 5 nights while we visited Marseille and took part in Run Marseille. It is right on the waterfront of the Old Port, a beautiful location, surrounded by a range of great places to eat, a mixture of quirky bars and pubs, cheap food places as well as easy access to early morning coffee and pastries. The Old Port is a nice place to walk from early in the morning to late at night. The hotel is a nice hotel, staff are friendly, the place is secure, and the cleaning staff are very efficient. We've dropped two stars because the bathroom fixtures were in need of repair, and the beds were uncomfortable, a little too hard but the pillows were like air inflatables! Neither of us got a great night's sleep despite the staff kindly giving us a quiet room. If you like your beds firm stay here because those were our only issues and the location is perfect.
Great location, enormous bedroom and bathroom, quiet despite proximity to traffic below. Average breakfast given the 'stars'. Ideally located for boat trips to the islands. Would certainly stay again.
Looked exceptional value at £60 per night for twin room in a 4 star hotel but it doesn't quite match the 4 stars I've stayed at elsewhere around the world, this a 3 star in my opinion but still good value, clean and helpful staff in a great location right in the heart of the port area, my only criticism is the bathroom and toilet was very small/tight for space with a bit of mold and the safe wasn't screwed to the wall, so pointless !
"Two star at a stretch "
Not sure how this hotel has been rated as a four star unless the rating system in Marseille is different to the rest of the world! I travel a lot (almost every week) so have stayed in my fair share of hotels and, as much as I love Marseille, I have to say this is probably the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. The entrance is small but this is expected considering it's in Vieux Port, and we were greeted with a warm welcome from reception but this was the highlight of the entire hotel experience as it quickly went downhill from there. The corridors were old and grimy with a carpet that is not only stained with huge questionable substances but has also never been introduced to a vacuum since installation! The poor ambiance of the corridor was equally matched in the bedroom where there was a smell of old damp. The curtains were half off its rails, the lamps were dusty and stained, the heating air vents had a thick layer of black dust. Then we had a look at the bathroom… The toilet bowl was stained , the panelling by the tub was swollen with moisture and falling apart and the "clean" towels had some questionable stains (maybe to match the carpet in the corridor'). Regardless of what hotel it is, I would have expected some level of cleanliness in the room but Grand Tonic failed to provide this basic requirement. The photos of the hotel on the website are real but has been taken when it was built a very long time ago and no maintenance has been done since.
