"Quiet side of town"
Hotel located with in easy walking distance to Dubrovnik, through the eastern city gate. Cruise ships and large amount of hotels on other city, which is congested and always a mass of people. Wonderful rooms with tables chairs, upholstered chairs and desks, comfortable beds and French doors to a balcony overlooking the sea. Included a everything you could want breakfast 7-10:30. Pool indoor and out and swimming in the sea. Everything you could ask for.
"Ideal in all respects"
The hotel is ideally situated, just a short walk from the Old Town. The vista's are superb looking along the coast; across to the island of Lockram (peacocks and rabbits all over the place); and back toward the walled city. If you are lucky and get room 738, you will not be disappointed, although I believe all of the rooms are excellent. The service is good and friendly, although slightly pricey. Dubrovnic is fabulous and can be fully enjoyed, whilst staying at this great hotel - there are grounds/terraced garders; an infinity pool and direct access to the sea.
"Good convenient place to stay"
This is a very good hotel the room was of a good size and contained every thing you needed except for tea/coffee making facilities. The staff on the whole were very attentive and helpful especially Nikki who looked after the pool area he made sure you had a sunbed in just the right place and supplied you with towels etc. The man who got you drinks was again very good and we had a laugh with him as he tried to be a character from alo alo. the restaurant provided a great breakfast and the service at night for dinner was good.
"Grand Is as Grand Does"
I must admit to being slightly worried after reading several bad reviews a few weeks before holidaying in the Grand Villa Argentina, but thankfully the hotel lived up to my expectations and not the unfavourable reviews. The staff are all friendly, polite, helpful and efficient. The pool man goes above and beyond and we were sad that he wasn't there on the Saturday before we left on the Sunday. Being a cat lover, I found it cute when a small black cat came and shared my sunbed one day! The hotel is in a lovely location with fantastic views to the sea, the town and Lokrum. We both enjoyed the food. We dined half-board and found the evening meals to be of top quality (wonderful tenderloin of beef, chocolate fondant, tirasimu, beef wellington(!) and pastika). I think they have good chefs working there and not forgetting the waiting staff who don't keep you waiting. There's always the option to go a la carte if the menu doesn't suit. The breakfasts are wonderful too with anything there that you could wish for. One day when the weather wasn't too good, we came back from the town and had room service which was lovely and I feel that the room service menu is nicer than the lunch menu. We also had a lovely meal in the beachside restaurant one day and were going to eat there on the Saturday but it was closed which was a disappointment even though it was a sunny day (after a horrendous storm and deluge one day). I was glad that I'd booked a seaview room with a balcony as it was a lovely room. The balcony is a spacious one which gets the sun most of the day and is quite sheltered if it gets a bit chilly outside. The bed was very comfy and there were good quality towels and bathrobes which is always nice. If I had one niggle it would be that the Thomson holiday gets you to the hotel by 11.00 a.m. and we then had to wait for three hours to check in. I think it's maybe a rigid rule that the hotel don't allow you to check in before 2.00 p.m., (I actually saw two couples race to the reception bang on 2.00 p.m. who were also waiting so we held back for a few minutes) but if they know holidaymakers are going to be so early, if the rooms are ready they could maybe relax that rule. On maybe half of the mornings we were there, our room had been cleaned when we got back from breakfast so the maids are cleaning early. One other observation I have is that the diningroom could maybe do with an update and I think it would be good if there was some kind of posh screening of the breakfast empty serving areas from the diningroom in the evenings. That's just my thought and it was probably a shame that we didn't have the best weather the week we were there so only breakfasted twice outside, which is lovely and it wasn't warm enough to dine outside in the evenings. So I wouldn't make the observation about updating and screens if we'd been able to dine outside all the time! To sum up, we really enjoyed our holiday in the Grand Villa Argentina, food is top quality, staff lovely, pool area wonderful, comfy bedroom with fantastic views and balcony and we want to return next year! This was our first time in Croatia and we found it wonderful (apart from the storm.......) Even the taxi drivers to and from the hotel are great.
"Lovely hotel in superb grounds and a great location."
For three nights we had a superb suite in the old section of the hotel (no.518') with a colonnaded balcony and superb views. The room was spacious and very comfortable. Our stay was not without issues. My g&t had a tiny slice of brown lemon, but the barman apologised and supplied a late of fresh slices. The pool signage and safety were very poor and we saw a guest get into trouble in the sea but there was no life-ring of other safety equipment, but the Guest Relations Manager took prompt action and resolved it properly. Finally we were billed again for the room despite paying in full in advance; it took 15 minutes to resolve and the desk clerk was unapologetic but they got the bill right in the end while we had a free drink (at my insistence!). Despite all this, we had a wonderful time here and would recommend it.
