"Christmas shopping "
Booked this hotel for two nights, or so I thought, on arriving at reception was told there wasn't a booking, but on producing our booking confirmation the miserable receptionist finally found us a room, not a smile in view. The room was very nice and very clean. We ate in the hotel restaurant which was very nice and reasonably priced, but what I found strange was the cocktail/ lounge bar was in the same room as the restaurant which had an open kitchen so was worried about going out after drinks smelling of cooking. Breakfast was good, plenty of tables, didn't have to queue, went Down about 8.30ish, but people were queuing when we came out.location of hotel is great straight outside train station and only 10 min walk into shopping centre. There is parking at hotel which was £15 per night which I thought was expensive .check out was quick and easy although same unsmiling receptionist dealt with us.stopped in the mill and the grosvenor before and would choose them over the queen, but would return if they weren't available.
"Very rare I leave a negative review!!"
It took a full 20 minutes to book me in and that's not just waiting that face to face !! And I do love the bit where they put you on hold while they answer the phone which I find very rude. To help I had to get the email, with the booking on it from my phone. Anyway booked in and went to my room to find it had no heating so back to reception to be informed that lm lucky that maintenance is still on site !!! Lucky me ' Went out for a meal and came back to find a small heater in my room ( no it was not plugged in) and the room still freezing.went to bed and had to unplug it due to noise it made waking up to a cold room. Breakfast was great, so back at reception which again took for ever to book out , Think I'll try the sister hotel across the road next time.
Stayed at The Queens on the 29/11... In The Queen Elizabeth 11 suite. Very plush with nice view over the courtyard. Beautiful room. Hotel well presented and clean.Friendly staff. Excellent evening meal in the King's Grill....Comfortable relaxing bar and day room...Enjoyable breakfast....This was our second stay at this fine Hotel....Recommended
Easy to find: Just opposite of the Railway Station. Very nice and large rooms. One can see and smell history. There is a 24 h service desk with friendly people. Great English Breakfast with a nice view into the hotel's garden, but slightly stressed personel. Refering to the price of the rooms, it cannot be understood, why there is a charge of 10 pounds for a parking place outside and 100 m away! Nevertheless 4 dots for British tradition.
"Family weekend away"
Grand Hotel, location directly across from train station, 10 min walk to city centre (£5 cab). Rooms very big but hotel bar and especially restaurant lets it down. Our meal in Kings Grill was very disappointing. Hotel courtyard very nice and staff very accommodating. No gym or spa (-1 point) plus restaurant (-1 point) reason for 3/5 rating.
