"Definately gone downhill"
So i have stayed here a couple of times and on this visit which will be my last here i have to agree with the majority of reviews this month. I had reception change my room as i was put initially on the 4th floor with views over rooftops and noisey generator. Door to room couldn't close properly to the room i was moved too. The room itself was mediocre and not as clean as can be expected. However, the most disappointing bit of the stay was dinner. Firstly reception couldn't be bothered to pick up the phone to make a reservation so i just turned up at the restaurant. When i did pass reception all 3 ladies were busy talking "boyfriends". Obviously far more important then attending to their guests. I ordered focassia bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. When i asked for a more balsamic the waiter informed me they had run out. I would consider this a basic store cupboard staple for a kitchen. Had to wait ages between courses for my drink, i did wander if it would ever turn up. Main course was roast chicken but was quite dry and unappetizing. When the waitress asked if she could bring dessert menu i said yes i had to wait 10 mins and the waiter bought me the bill instead. It is not as if the restaurant was packed or not enough staff. Felt very much as if the whole thing was a piecemeal effort and rather poor. Standards have definately declined overall in the hotel since i have been staying here on business for over a year.
"Spa day "
I bought my mum a spa day and afternoon tea for Christmas we went yesterday the hotel staff and the afternoon tea was perfect, when we got to the spa we was very very disappointed!!Luke on reception was extremely lovely and helpful, but the 'spa area 'was shocking it was just a swimming pool with loungers around the side, the pool was full of screaming children and club members who were rude to myself and my mother they complained we had glasses around the pool but they were PLASTIC!we felt really uncomfortable I couldn't wait to leave this is the worst spa ever only for Luke the day would have been a disaster I don't know how that young man Luke puts up with those moaning members on a daily basis x
"Way too hot! Had to leave!"
When we arrived the room was boiling. Must have been around 25 degrees and very stuffy. There was a hot pipe running through the room. It was so hot you couldn't leave your hands on it for 5 seconds! With no way to turn this off, we asked reception of it would cool down. They said it would be turned off in 20mins and someone brought some very weak fans. He said they leave the heating on at night so it wouldn't cool down. We asked to change rooms and the only other room was just as hot, small and had no way of airflow as the window barely opened. We finally asked for a refund and the lady was very obliging. She even recommended a nearby hotel. She explained it's an old building so each room has a hot pipe running through it and usually people say it's too cold! I have seen another review saying it's too hot so that must have been ignored. They need some way to allow the customers to control the heating.
"Disappointed spa break "
Me and my sister have been going here for the last 5 years, we've just been 11th till 12th Feb and come home so deflated n disappointed 😰, we arrived to miserable reception staff followed by miserable staff who seemed on edge in the restaurant too, me n my sister both had a burger and ended up all nyt with bad tummys!! We were also meant to recieve bottle wine n choc treats in room but didn't receive these!! The Sunday morning after ok breakfast we went to leisure facilities and faced with miserable staff who didn't say anything apart from .. been hear before' N fill these forms in! Once in pool area it's very very dirty and the roofs all leaking n ready to come throu! We were also meant to get robe n slippers but didn't receive rhese either!! While we were laid reading our books the water from the roof was dripping on us yuk!! Discusting! What a shame this place is gojn down hill xx
If I had been paying for my stay I probably would have complained, but luckily work was paying for it. My first impression was that the room looked fine. I picked up the TV remote and the batteries fell out because the back of the remote was missing, The quality on quite a few of the channels came up with "Poor Signal", so not much choice. The bed was pretty old, moved and squeaked and was pretty soft. There was a gummy bear lying on the floor, so I'm not convinced the room had been hovered properly, Other colleagues had biscuits in the room, I didn't. I was overall just a bit disappointed. More like a 2 star than a 3 star. Breakfast was good though and the girl on reception was really nice.
