"Not a relaxing spa weekend!"
My husband and I visited the Manchester airport hotel this weekend for a long awaited spa break. (Our last relaxing trip before the birth of our first child in January). All was well and we checked in and were asked what time we wanted to book in for the restaurant that night at check in. The spa was great and staff were friendly and the meal on Friday night in the restaurant was good. Unfortunately, there were 2 Christmas parties going on, so our ground floor room was very noisy with music till the early hours and then guests woke us in the early hours moving furniture and screaming. Although no fault of the hotel, they would have thought you would put non event guests in quieter rooms. We then had a relaxing Saturday and used the spa facilities which were good, but on the way back to the room my husband asked if we needed to book in at the restaurant for that night only to be told that the restaurant was closed, but we could eat in the bar but not during 6 and 8. Otherwise, the pub over the road, (a dodgy Fayre & Square) was serving food. I stated we had prepaid for a package and therefore that was not acceptable and the receptionist stated we could eat in the bar now. It was now 4.45 and my hair was soaking wet, so really not an option. I then also asked for earplugs which the hotel does not provide. We then asked to make a complaint as not eating between 6 and 8 is really not acceptable for a 33 week pregnant lady. Staff were very professional but offered us a table at the restaurant with a set meal and with people at a party! This really was not the essence of our trip as we wanted a relaxing break! In the end they refunded us £40 for the meal, but really I think this was not the same value as the 3 course meals on the menu and as my husband had had a drink, I had to drive elsewhere for a 2 course meal of the same value ; again not relaxing! We were glad that we were able to have a room move and the room was much quieter for the second night. However, we were disappointed that we were not informed of the meal issues for the Saturday when we checked in on the Friday and the poor planning of the facilities that were not on offer to us, but were stated when booking.
My work hired out the merlot suite in order to hold a function. Overall I was very impressed with the decor of the room, it had been done up really nicely for the occasion with added features such as a little sweet shop in the corner, which were a nice touch. The food was ok, nothing to complain about however the service of drinks at the bar and of the food was a little slow with long waits between courses. On the whole the staff were lovely and the venue was good, would recommend hiring for this purpose.
A group of friends and I came on a spa and tribute night getaway with spabreaks. We stayed at this hotel 7 years ago and found it very good however the rooms are looking very tired now and could definitely do with some decoration, they were clean though so no complaints there. We used the pool & jacuzzi, the pool was lovely and warm. The changing rooms are in need of an upgrade, really lets the spa down. We had a shoulder, back & neck massage which to start with was like medieval torture, I'm not keen on someone digging their knuckles into my back so I asked her to be more gentle which she did and although it was relaxing she didn't go anywhere near my neck which was the area I wanted most. Beware they charge £5 to rent a robe so take your own. I wasn't paying that, astronomical amount but I had black trousers on and the put fluffy white towels over you, what a mess! Next we went down for dinner, there were 7 of us and they had put us on a shared table with another 4 ladies who were already seated. There were only 6 chairs for us so man in suit said he'd bring another chair, no chance we said, we'd be like sardines, I'll bring a bigger table then. What a comedy act that was, rolling in a big table between all the guests. We had to stand and wait for 20 mins whilst they swapped everything over. To say sorry they brought us a few bottles of Aldi £1.99 perry, which we gave back, this was relaced with Prosecco! The meal was just edible but there was a wait of 45 mins between finishing one course and getting the next, people got up to dance before dessert they were so bored of waiting. Take that tribute were awful, good singers but who was who' Just 3 lads singing take that songs. Breakfast was ok however you had to keep asking the waiting staff to bring things they should have known to bring like milk for the tea etc! I don't usually write an essay for a review but this was such a comedy of errors.
"Comfortable and friendly hotel"
Stayed here with work for a two day conference. Found it to be a comfortable, well equipped and friendly hotel. The grounds were fantastic and a beautiful location. Only complaint is that whilst it says Airport hotel, it is nowhere near the airport and is around a 30 minute drive.
"Poor evening food and disorganized breakfast"
Stayed with work for meeting locally. Rooms ok but evening meal was really poor. Food either overcooked and crispy or undercooked and cold. Were offered free items as we complained on several occasions. Breakfast better but tables not cleared and lots missing on buffet and could not find clean crockery. Overall very disappointing.
