"Fantastic food, friendly staff and a bright, spacious meeting room"
We hired this venue for an evening meeting for around 50 delegates. The food was fantastic and the team was lovely. The meeting room was ideal for our needs. We hope to use this venue for future events.
Went for a meal at this hotel after our wedding there was a group of nine of us and every one said the food was lovely and service excellent it was my first visit to the Hallmark Hotel really looking forward to going back again
"pre flight stay"
arrived monday the 20th at 3pm, parked up with ease and went into the hotel lobby. lots of work being undertaken to the hotel which was good to see and did not affect our stay. the receptionist was very friendly and booked us in with ease. sadly no one to help with luggage ok for us, but perhaps not for a family or some one with lots of bags or who was perhaps older. the loby was clean and tidy. upon arriving on our floor we were sadly met by a musty smell which continued into the room - and which was then mixed with a smokey smell. however the room was nicley laid out with good selction of toiletries. sadly the room was freezing cold due to a window being left open - and despite turning up the thermosatat on the radiator - the room didnt get any warmer. we did wonder if the window had been left optn to get rid of the smell of smoke!. upon trying to close the window we discovered the window catch was damaged. we then went down to the bar for something to eat. staff very helpful and the bar nicely laid out - just a long wait for somthing very simple soup and baked eggs!!. we then went over to the spa, not the worst place we have used, but in desperate need of a face lift and decorating. the pool is a good size pity about the leaks in the roof,. The gym is nicely laid out changing rooms adequate - pity the showers were cold.!! drinks were very expensive - so we didnt bother buying any. but it passed a nice hour. we went back to our room to get ready for dinner. we had booked a table in the resturant, and we were glad to have done so. the weather was miserable so a drive out woudl not have been pleasant, the menu is very nice and the staff could not have been more helpful with advice on the various selections. pity the roof leaks - water running down the pillar to the side of us!!. however our choice of food was simply delicious. a very pleasant evening wtih friendly, happy, attentive, but not pushy staff who were happy to offer advice and suggetstions and happy to adapt meals to fit in with dietry requirements resulted in a lovely eveing. Although the drinks are somewhat expensive. would i stay here again, it is possible, if travelling over that way again, but the down side is that i felt the staff are let down by some elements of the hotel, not sure if the hotel is slowly being refurbished, i do hope so, our room was nice but being able to see into the laundry room when waiting for the lift - was a bit off putting as was the musty smell on the landing, no porter to help with bags, thank goodness we only had one case, and the stale smell of smoke needs addressing things that need improving - the spa parking charges, ok charge if people are leaving their cars for a week or so but not for guests who are stopping say a night or two - bit steep at £5 per night, i found that a bit petty - sorry, oh and didnt understand the cakes on a stand at reception ! very strange just sat there not covered up !!. however all in all, an ok place to stop if you need a place to stay prior to a holiday or for a short break - especially at the prices charged - a definate challenge to the likes of the very expensive hotels to be found around the airport
"Spa Centre disgraceful"
The pool area/fitness club has always been extremely badly maintained and organised, but today it was appalling. The area that they call the gym ( more like a dirty greenhouse ) was DANGEROUS. The admirable teacher received a severe electric shock just trying to plug in the music. This place should be condemned. The man who came to investigate was arrogant and rude.
"Fawlty Towers mark 2! :-("
This was supposed to be a one night stay with friends as a birthday "spa" treat. When we arrived the hotel had overbooked and we had to stay in the nearby sister hotel - not a great start! We had paid to watch a "Movie night" entertainment show with food on the Saturday night, which, whilst being inundated with at least 10 hen parties, was good fun and seemingly well organised. When we went back to our twin room (small but on first viewing clean), we both noticed small bug-like creatures in the bathroom! Quite disturbing. However, after eating a pleasant breakfast at the sister hotel, we ventured back to The Hallmark to enjoy our booked spa experience. Dirty isn't the word of the state of the poolside 😔 There was an extensive amount of black grime that looked like soil coming from the bottom of the radiators and on the floor. The poolside floor was slimey and unclean. There is a dangerous drain next to the pool that isn't safe to walk on! Strangely enough, we decided to give the spa a miss and cancelled our treatments. When we complained about the state of the pool/spa, the very polite gentlemen on the spa reception apologised profusely and said it was his fault as he didn't have time to be on reception and clean the spa area!! He explained that the "grime" was rust from the radiators, but this problem needs major renovations, it is beyond 'spit and polish'! On calling time on our "spa weekend", we decided to have a hot drink before heading home, and took a few sips and the fire alarm went off! Guests started to evacuate and then the alarm stopped and everyone sat back down! This hotel is DEFINITELY Fawlty Towers mark 2!! I won't be visiting again. Positives: free taxis to and from sister hotel for the inconvenience plus a free drink Friendly staff and a good night out - just don't stay!
